is this game in any way, shape or form, similar to the Stronghold games on the PC? i really want a game similar to that one
Kinda - have you played any of the early Heroes of Might & Magic games? (esp 2) That is what this game is like. There is some building/management of cities, but you have small groups led by knights that move around on the world map, battles are turn/hex based.
never played those.... but what i liked about the Stronghold games was that they had 2 campaigns... once was a Wars campaign and the other was about town building and keeping the populace happy or scared.... to build a thriving town.... im looking for a game that's similar to that
Both the iPhone and iPad Deluxe version are now on discount until 15 Jan! All Maps pack for iPhone Deluxe and iPad deluxe has been discounted to $7.
I believe it was 11.99$ for the Mega Map Pack thing... Just downloaded it today, can't wait to give it a go!
I'm still trying to decide whether to pick this up or not... specially since i recently bought Civ Rev and haven't even played it yet ._.
Having played Civ Rev (and being a complete Civ buff) and this... It's completely different. If you can spare the .99$ it's definitely worth it even if just for the included 20 maps. Reminds me a lot of the games King's Bounty (which I guess is pretty much the same as the HoMM series). I find it's definitely worth the money, especially at only 1$, although it's not really anything like Civ Rev. Both are awesome games and I'd definitely pick this up before it goes back up to 4.99$.
I've been wanting to buy this one for some time now... but I'm still clueless about this game... i have no idea how's it played or what type of game it is... it's the only reason why i haven't bought it yet and since apple recently refunded me, i have a dollar sitting bored on my account... it's either this or Angry Birds since my niece started asking me for it last night
I had the EXACT same issue. There's no really good gameplay videos online (or that I could find, anyway). The best I can sum it up as... It's like an Turn Based Strategy game mixed with RPG elements. I played through the first scenario for a bit and basically you're given a Hero (or heroes, depending on the scenario). And you move them around the map collecting money and resources, as well as recruiting units to join your army. So my hero was this Barbarian Henry W. I moved to the Blacksmith and he gave my hero a shield, as well as a Pikeman joined my army. I recruited some Goblins from the Goblin Barracks, some Peasants from the Peasant's Barracks and then when I visited the Archer's place, I got some archers to join me, and was then attacked by some Wolves who were guarding it. Then you go into a battlemode,it's a grid type system wherein you move the units you've henceforth collected and engage whatever enemies there may be. Before the battle it'll tell you how many enemies there are (approx., i.e. There's a Horde of Peasants, Horde of Peasants). It's wise to pay attention to what size the force is because if you lose all your forces in the battle it's game over (or at least it was in the first scenario). Way to many peasants overtook my rag tag forces and I was swiftly defeated. Next time I'll be better prepared, though! If you want a similar type of game to observe the gameplay, look up Heroes of Might and Magic 2 or King's Bounty (The Genesis version is pretty close).
Just picked this one up after thinking about it the past couple of days. Played Homm awhile back, so naturally I enjoy this game. Definately grab this if you enjoy Homm.
King's Bounty was the precursor to the Heroes of Might and Magic series; Palm Heroes was designed as a near-exact clone of Heroes of Might and Magic 2, so any general resources available for that game should also serve quite handily for PH. As for the specific scenario "Adventures of Henry Woods", that is atypical for the game as it is a heavily scripted and linear adventure that leaves out much of the focus on base-building and controlling land, whereas the majority of PH scenarios are open, standard strategy game fare. As such it isn't the best one to use as an example of the normal gameplay, as people picking up the game expecting story-based scenarios will not find many of them outside of rare cases like this.
Mmm I see. That's the problem I think... It's hard to find out just what kind of game this is, especially when one has never even heard of the HoMM series ( I mention King's Bounty simply because I spent a lot of time back in the day playing it whereas I just dabbled in HoMM2). The few game play videos ( and one so called "review") do not really do it justice. The one "review" is just the guy rambling continuously making references to Civ Rev (though the two play really nothing alike in the grand scheme of things) and he surprisingly really doesn't show any real worthwhile gameplay. Having played it a considerable amount today, however, I stand by assertions: PH2eluxe is an amazing steal at 0.99$.
Maybe someone should make a video like that using the mac version? Any volunteers? I'd give a promo code of course.
Personally, I like HOMM on the computer, but just find it way too much trouble on a phone. I could definitely see enjoying the game on an ipad, but I would not buy it for a phone. I did try -- I just couldnt get into it given the control and map perception issues I was having.
