Thanks. It interesting seeing mobi to sending piece out to attack. I'm using it as a defense piece, attacking with piece and retreating my piece to a save location
Thanks. I actually took inspiration on that match, as I didn't know how to use any super. That and the importance of all of the runners' positions (for vision, as support and not attack) was what changed how that game went. That is true, in general, I noticed you're far better than me playing aggressive (and you proved that in the 2nd match ), so I had to rethink my strategy as I was slowly losing it at that rate. You can see the change in strategy when I stop pushing runners to the mid and make the sniper and medic, and then mobi, because if I had just gone with our current runner positioning game, I'd have lost it for sure. I can see how this in 2 spawn setups can be much harder to achieve, as double the units are able to pop, and you need a turn or 2 of "peace" to pop the super. That said, I'm seeing that there's room for both defensive and offensive strategies, and there's even a chance to change postures in mid game allowing for lots of freedom. But you really need to have your strategy in mind, as tactics will only get you so far. Also I'm beginning to get worried, there are a couple of incredibly strong strategies (so far Backtothis' crushing long nine sniper rush and the small mech map rush I think I found out by accident on my 1st match v gabrien) that are veeeeeeery hard to counter. I dare say impossible if you don't spot them in the 1st 2 turns. Maybe I just don't see how it is done yet, but this put the 1st player in an adv in these maps. Not sure how this will develop.
One thing I like about Mobi potentially is his 2 base HP. Still need to test him out though. It was a good setup with the cannon, he just had that perfect vantage point with that scout up there to see the opening. On your last turn when you moved that scout up with your last wit and the Mobi came into view, I imagine there was an oh crap! moment lol. So far I definitely like the Adorables maps the best. They're a nice size to where I don't feel so pressured to position runners and worry about my opponents runners and can experiment a bit. If you're up for it, I'd love to do a 2v2. I'm doing a few with in league but our opponents are pretty slow. A friendly match with non-randoms sounds fun. EDIT: my GC tag is the same as here @Anng: no problem. That was a strategy I was thinking about too. Theoretically it sounds good, but I wonder in practice if it's worth the wits investment. Something that definitely needs to be tried out before I could say. @Khamous: I think I remember there being a post about going first in Long Nine giving an advantage on the OML boards, but there wasn't a ton of useful feedback when I read it.
Small mech map rush? Edit: Oh, Glitch, lol. Did you just do that to me? It was a pretty short game -__-. Edit: WOW, it was only 7 turns?! Holy crap..you should post that replay for everyone to see.
Yeah that's what I just did Also, yes glitch, I dunno the names of the maps yet and the match wasn't over. Behold the Glitch Rush: outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIQCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YpMI7DA (I'm on my iPhone on the TA app, so if anyone can fix the link I'd appreciate it). So yeah, thats a pretty crazy pretty fast strategy, and well, can we brainstorm a counter here?
outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIQCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YpMI7DA Here's the link from above. I've never won a game that fast before, lol. Never lost one in anywhere close to that few turns. Edit: On the bright side, I'm 11-0 for league games now xP. Rank 18 in my Master Division.
Fixed link: outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIQCxIIR2FtZVJvb20YpMI7DA EDIT: Just watched it and all I have to say is WOW
So long as you're able to tell it's coming though, it's possible to counter it, right? I think there'd only be a problem if it wasn't.
Won in five moves, but wasn't to hard of an opponent outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIQCxIIR2FtZVJvb20Ym8I5DA
I feel like going second on a small map against a strategy like that, you're kinda of forced to play defensively, at least at first. Which sucks, being (theoretically) forced into a play style based on turn order. On the replay alone, it seems viable options would be to build a soldier instead of a scout or leave the scout blocking the portal (on it or one over). On turn 3, you can see the heavy/runner setup until your runner gets killed. Perhaps when you see the heavy advancing, prepare to play a bit defensive since they have the turn advantage. Of course, not everyone is going to automatically advance their heavy, so it comes down to a judgement call. Just throwing out an idea here. It could very well be a terrible suggestion.
4 days instead of 7 to take your turn. 11 extra room, only 2 more days for another 7 more. If someone want to play me - drawwall
Yeah, I definitely should have played defensively. Just not my style though, heh. Out of the nearly 50 games I've completed, I don't think I've played a defensive game even once. By the way, if you guys haven't done so yet, check out this thread of tips from the official forum for Outwitters: http://onemanleft.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=120 Lots of other useful threads there as well. 4 days instead of 7 now for the auto-resign, sweet! Even better, the game limit increase.
Just saw it. 4 is one day more than I was hoping for, but I'm glad they did change it and it is a good compromise. Can't wait for the game increase. I'll take you up on that offer, but I'm gonna hold off 'til tomorrow. Took some allergy meds and I'm likely going to pass out very soon haha. I want to go against some other TA members as well. @backtothis: I know how ya feel. I'm generally more of a defensive player, but this game makes me want to go all out pretty often.
I'm generally an aggressive player, but fog of war is tricky, im beginning to try new strategies, see how they go. Rushing supers for an instance, might end up being something interesting, might just net me losses, I'll report back, lol
Your mega-units should NOT be used to rush the enemy, they are better off behind your other units, and moving as one.
I didn't mean it in that sense, but I encourage you to give a look at mobi, he's an awesome base rusher. Gabrien and me just had a 2v2 rank match in which I rushed mobi in 3 turns and, well, due to good coordination and luck, we won. I didn't know it only took 1 base kill to win, scary stuff 2v2. Here's the link: outwitters://viewgame?id=ag5vdXR3aXR0ZXJzZ2FtZXIQCxIIR2FtZVJvb20Y58sdDA
Start a 2v2 league game with me! I'm sure we'll dominate pretty hard. To anyone who hasn't started a game with me yet, my GC username is Backtothis as well. Also, someone start some 2v2 friendly matches with me and some TA friends.
To be honest, I was actually a bit disoriented there. I started playing my usual game, but then was like, hang on, is that what Khamous would expect me to do? Am I doing something that will work with what he's doing? So there was all this second guessing, since my instincts are to play "my" game but at the same time I know there should be some teamwork. But hey, I guess that's what makes 2v2 what it is, and it must take some adjusting. By the way, I'm amazed we won. EDIT: By the way, make no mistake: the Mobi won us the match. I actually messed up quite badly at the top end of the board, which would have cost us the match the very next turn.
