No, they do NOT deserve to be making tons of money--unless they grow up and start acting like a real business. They would absolutely deserve to be making tons of money for what is, at heart, a fantastic series of games, IF they listened to most of the ideas in this thread. IE add: - multiplayer - updates (at least to fix bugs! come on!) - a market-sustainable price point - proper awareness campaign Then, YES! They absolutely deserve truckloads. But without some combination of the above, they are going to get what they deserve: piddly sales that keeps it so that they're not a company, they're just a couple of folks working out of a Siberian garage.
I'm sure this has been said many times over in this thread in different ways, but I'd like to add to it. Where the hell is the update to the first one? We were promised all sorts of things and we were left high and dry. At this point, I don't even care about the promised free expansion, but at least fix the damned bugs!
Haha, I wish! www.twitter.com/izzynobre It's actually closer to 35 thousand (I have a popular website)
I don't think so. (For example, I've only played it once through - back in 2007 on WinMo.) This game is all about duels.
I'll help them in all ways in implementing GC multiplayer, which I know pretty well. Pavel has told me today he was just reading my tutorial sources so there definitely is hope.
I may devote an entire article to it in iPhone Life (about 50 000 copies sold or even more, dunno) - after all, it's by far the best card game on WinMo and, at least until Shadow Era comes out, on iOS.
Until they start running a promotional campaign, there's NOTHING us fans can even do to increase the popularity and awareness of the series. At $5 and no updates for TWO YEARS, I can't even wholeheartedly recommend the original Orions to my friends at this point. Orions is so far the ONLY worthwhile TCG in the AppStore. It wouldn't take much to make it a major hit.
Cheer up guys, I'm pretty sure there will be MP. If nothing else helps, I travel there (they're situated in St. Petersburg, right? That's pretty close to Finland) and stay for some days helping them with the GC code - for free. At the same time, my wife will surely want to travel around the town; that is, she will surely want to come and will enjoy herself - Kill two birds with one stone
Noooooo! Don't kill your wife and the imoregames staff with a stone. At least let them release the game for us first
I wanna ask Pavel if we can help our buddies in this thread and preview info and screens. I don't wanna post anything until I get express permission.
That'd be great IzzyNobre. If you cannot take screenshots of actual cards, even the interface for some of the new features like deck creation would do. That sounds for you as well Menneisyys . In the Main Post it's said that they are working on the Campaing mode to make it not suck that badly (ok, maybe those are not their exact words). Did you guys check it? Is it any good right now? While I will still play duel mode most of the time, it'd be nice to have a well-designed, fun Campaing to kill time with when I'm in the mood of it.
According to Menneisyys, if I remember correctly. He said that he saw around 150+ cards in Orions 2. Isn't that almost double what Orion's: Legends of Wizards had? If that's about right then wow. Makes me even want it more! Bastards... The both of you, with your fancy beta access
Haven't even touched the Campaign mode yet. If Pavel oks it (haven't emailed him yet, as he hasn't replied my first bug report email and I don't wanna overwhelm him), I'll share a lot of screenshots and details with you guys. So far I can say I'm impressed with the variety of cards, but I don't think it's quite up to 150 though. I've noticed a few omissions -- Priest, for instance, seems to be missing. Loved using a few of those for ramping into a massive Chimera (Edit: booted up Orions 2 and confirmed, Priest is indeed missing. So is Paralyze -- 10 Water, makes oponent skip their turn. Hard to pull off but beautiful combo with Chimera + Nixie: I could Paralyze every turn. Bummer...) Some of the abilities are more combo-tastic, too. Lots of interesting interactions between creatures' "static abilities", so to speak, and their "activated abilities" -- to borrow terms from Magic. Lots of creatures that pump one another, or heal one another, or give you mana... There's even a Clone creature, a classic staple of M:tG, that reproduces itself into an empty space. Like I said, there's gonna be lots of combos. Like I said, I'm not sure if there are as many as 150 cards in the game, but there's enough to make me feel overwhelmed. I'm gonna have to get some serious face time with each element before the little M:tG gears in my brain starts coming up with cool combos and decks. Again, coming up with cool combos would be 100000x cooler if we could show it off in online matches... I found the draft mode to be a really cool addition, too -- but like many other things involving Orions, it'd only truly shine if there was online multiplayer. Multiplayer. Please. If there is a god, make the devs add multiplayer. Oh, and by the way? Apparently there IS fast app switching. It just crapped out on me a few times before, but it's working now like a charm. Go figure!
Paralyze is gone? That's just sad. I loved the Ice Wizard + Nixie + Chimera combo which, when you got all those guys on the field at one, it was insta-win (Paralyze spam). I think (more like hope) Paralyze is a hard spell to code and it's still in it's coding stages and that it wasn't dumped, since it was one of the most versatile and fun spells in the game. I also hope Priest wasn't dumped neither, since it was the only gatherer in the game who could give you a net gain of 2 elements/turn. While extremely squishy and killable, a single priest can be a "Life factory" if kept on the battlefield for long enough. Also, 3 Priests => Purify spam moments were priceless. P.S. - Devs, if you let the beta testers share screenshots with us I'll give you a cookie.
excellent, would mind waiting an extra couple weeks for multiplayer if needed, I know some of you can't tho I finally picked up Orions after 2 years of waiting for it to go on sale
We've all been very vocal to Pavel about the need for multiplayer. From what I've heard, he's currently studying Game Center mutiplayer implementation tutorials. He's told me directly that even if Orions 2 has multiplayer, it won't be available on version 1.0. Here's hoping he changes his mind. It's a catch 22 situation -- it seems like they are waiting to see if Orions 2 sells well in order to give it a multiplayer update, but we all know there's a very good chance it WON'T become a popular game without multiplayer...
