Shadow Era is free, so of course it's easy to get a lot of players... We have almost 1 million now. I'm a bit nervous about what the price will be on O2, but I've waited long enough so I don't think I can stand to wait for the inevitable $0.99 sale (DAMN YOU, DEATH RALLY!!!!)
True. But the point remains the same -- if there WASN'T a market for hardcore card games, how many copies of Shadow Era would have been downloaded...?
@Vovin: You speak the truth I guess there isn't any point in updating O1 anymore; my guess is that the vast majority of O1 customers will also purchase O2. The point I failed to get across was more to do with their terrible treatment of customers. @amn624: Thanks for the info. It sounds like O2 is shaping up to be a gem. Let's hope the support is also equally worthy. And I agree that it would be nice if Chillingo had a presence in this thread, but I won't be holding my breath. I've had much better support from small, indie developers. I guess Chillingo are so huge and rich they feel they don't need to interact with customers because they will secure sales either way. A shame, but life goes on.
I'm surprised you've shown up in here so much and haven't mentioned anything regarding Battle for Wesnoth in it's thread. I love your work Kyle but you spend more time promoting your game on a competitor's thread than actually talking about one of your games, we know you're working on it but a little feedback wouldn't hurt.
Lots of replies on this thread - so rather than me read all 1000+, can anyone tell me if this is going to be Universal - or have an iPad version? Price-wise, anything from $10 or less and it's an instabuy for me - LOVED O1 and I'm sure O2 will be even better! Can't wait! Jamie.
Not Universal and no iPad / hi-res version - at least for now. Frankly, I don't think there'll ever be any, unless it'll be a commercial success - this is why Pavel hasn't released a high-res (VGA) version of the WinMo version either.
The two have an entirely different card set. Players accustomed to the cards (or, for that matter, the in-game music) in O1 may still prefer O1 to O2, despite the advantages (e.g., multiplayer). I only hope Pavel either adds multiplayer to O1 or, as has mentioned once, adds the removed cards back to O2 so that there won't be any point in playing O1 any more.
It'll surely have $1 sales - as also had O1. Of course I don't think it'll be over $5, not even at start. (Dunno the exact figures; haven't asked Pavel about them.) Nevertheless, it'll worth at least a hundred times more for someone that plays it very frequently, particularly with multiplayer. I've spent some 30-40$ for the three WinMo versions and would definitely pay even twice that price should it still be on a much more expensive (read: non-iOS) platform like the PSP, the WinMo version having delivered so much and entertainment fun to me.
Unfortunately, I haven't managed to make the final version (signed for AppStore upload) work on my devices and didn't want to force Pavel (who's very busy) to create a version signed with the ad-hoc provisioning profile. That is, I need to wait with starting to write the Guide until Wednesday. (If O2 does hit the AppStore then, that is.)
Unfortunately, the entire(!) artwork of the game would be needed to be re-drawn. It's pixel work and right from the beginning has been tailored to look the best at 320*240 (and, when made somewhat smaller, at 480*320; that is, on the non-Retina iPhone screen) and there isn't a double-resolution artwork. This is why there won't be a higher-res version. (Or, at least, at first - I can't speak on Pavel's side; the above info is based on our correspondence some 3-4 years ago, back in the WinMo days.)
O:LoW graphics are okay on the iPad and I expect O2 will be as well. I'd love to have an HD version but what the heck, I just want to see the game out already.
Actually, I think the music in O2 is far superior although the music in O;LoW is great. FYI, Moregames has the mp3 of the original on their website.
Oh god! I just remembered! O1 doesn't let you play your own music. PLEASE, please please please please tell me you can play your own music somehow with O2....
That's a shame. Uprezzing the graphics in PS wouldn't exactly address it, but there ARE some really good stopgap measures that require only minimal selective graphical treatment.... :/
Arg....seriously? AGAIN the app disables iPod play? Dont get me wrong; I love the O1 music. But over and over and over and over and over?? No song can withstand that.
