Well, Pavel might be reading but it's been out of his hands for weeks now. Chillingo's problem, if there is one. In any event, the beta seemed quite stable.
I have been looking forward to this release for months. Much respect to Pavel for designing such an awesome game. The wait has been painful, but I have no doubt the result will be worth every moment.
The best possible authority (the developers) said it was coming in November. Then January. Then February. What I'm trying to say is, I'll believe it when I see it.
I don't remember Pavel ever saying anything to effect. Heck, I didn't even receive the beta test copy until January 3rd and it was obvious then that a lot of work was still in the offing. In fact, in an email to me on March 3rd, Pavel said the next build would "hopefully" be the final. It was not a foregone conclusion even then. The trailer said March, but it had to go to Chillingo for their own evaluation and it was not expected to be held up for as long as it has been to date. If there is a release date in May, then you will see it in May. Chillingo does it according to their own schedule and for their own reasons.
It was first announced (perhaps by Chillingo, on their site? I can't remember) for November. Of course, the inclusion of multiplayer played a role in its delay -- but 6-7 months is a long wait. Edit: Ah, it was quoted on the first post of this thread. Where the OP got the information from, I don't know, but in my franctic googling for info back then, I remember it being quoted somewhere else too. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later
Well, I must admit coveting it since I initially downloaded O:LoW and realized there was more for PC (never did download that). As you say, better sooner than later. Chillingo, are you paying any attention at all? Btw, Izzy, change your sig. 500,000 users for SE, not 200,000.
Haven't played in probably three weeks or so, but everytime I had logged on previously, the queue was always packed, so it's a lot, whatever it is (or was).
Since I am the OP, I placed information on the first post courtesy of ipadlips. When it's released we will then know what the release date is.
Amn, an off-topic question here, but the game you have in development you've been giving us hints of: I understand you can't or maybe don't feel like revealing much yet, but can you tell us the genre? Is it going to be a card game or something else? You piqued my curiousity
Not at liberty yet to discuss in depth, but it is a 2-player card driven board game, previously published but not in an electronic format. I hope to be able to provide more details soon. Believe me, I'm itching to get a buzz out on this asap since anticipated publication is only 5 months away. Re genre; it's a battle for territory. Playing time likely to be as long as 30-45 minutes, hence the option for async. I doubt any game will go less than 20 minutes but sync is also planned. In all fairness to O2 fanatics (me included), I'd rather not use this thread for any more bandwidth here. I will start a new thread when I can and promise to post a note here when the time is right. Glad there's some curiosity!
Unfortunately, a lot of old cards have been dropped so a lot of old strategies (e.g., Ice Wizard / Forest Soul(?)) don't work. Nevertheless, I find the new set considerably better and more thought-out - and even better than the three-year-old set on Windows Mobile.
Yup, it's not that easy to force background / frozen apps out of memory to get as much free memory as possible (around 150-160M on a 256M 3GS; haven't tested this on 512M devices like the iPhone4/iPad2). I've played around with this question a lot and found out that the best way of always making sure I can have all the memory is constantly allocating-deallocating memory, raised in 5M chunks and starting around 10-20 Mbytes, until I get the first-level warning. This only takes 2-3 seconds on a 3GS (much more if you don't use malloc but also zero out the memory). Dunno, however, whether Apple actually allows apps that clean up the entire memory before starting to load it entirely, apart from specific "cleaner" apps with this very purpose.
Guess not, why? Chillingo is following the Ta forums sometimes closely. They're also active on a few occassions. On another note - somebody should point out to Chillingo that this thread isn't the best choice to make people want to buy Orions 2.
