    Proof of Life

    I'm attaching proof of life.

    1) a shot of imoregames title page showing copyright and O2 designation. True, a 2011 copyright only means 2011, but so much work has gone into this effort that I can't believe it's going to go past Chillingo's trailer showing a "March" release.

    2) Here's the screen you see when you go to "Custom Duels." Note "Draft", "User Deck" and "Challenge."

    3) Here's a Draft screen where the computer has already chosen Acid Storm.

While you can play at your own pace versus the AI in any mode, contests against humans will be timed to prevent your opponent from walking away from a loss or stalling. You have 60 seconds to make a move or goodbye. I was not a believer in this but came to see the light early in the process. It works and works well. If anything, you are ALWAYS deeply engrossed and know that the pressure will soon be on you again while your opponent considers his options.

In Draft, you will have roughly 15 seconds to choose a card. Any more than that can really drag it out. 4 cards for each player, that could be as much as 12 minutes just to set the game up. In practice, it usually takes about 5 minutes for the draft and that feels just about right.

It will take quite some time to get used to the entire set. A LOT has changed and some card effects are not as you might expect. You will have to learn a lot along the way. I've been playing it solid since the beginning of the year and can honestly tell you, I'm not the slightest bit tired of it. My only problem is I want to play against you....and you...and you.

By the time O2 comes out, O1 will likely be down to $0.99 forever, so that's one way to learn with a smaller set. But honestly, I don't think you'll have that great a problem with O2. One of the joys of playing is the thrill of discovery, using new cards and coming up with new strategies and new combos.

Just stay with the traditional duel mode against the AI until you feel you're up for more competition. The default is 4 cards per element, so you'll only be playing with 24 cards.

When you're ready, you can go to options to play with an extended deck, more cards, allow AI to play with the same cards as you, etc.

And also, start on easy mode. The AI is not all that bad, so you will have some difficulty winning but on easy mode, you should do fine.

Sweet glad to read there's been so much progress and going to be released next month. I'll buy it twice asap to show my support. I only visit this forum now to check up on this game. Tried shadow era and think it is not comparable to ORIONS!

You can't compare them, both games are very different from each other.
But I think SE equals O2 in quality. Very polished and getting really strategic with the next card set.

I keep checking back here and in the app store, waiting for release....

Tried Shadow Era, it seems uninteresting to me and I'm not willing to shell out lots of real world cash hoping it *might* improve if only I had more premium cards. No thanks.

i don't know about Shadow Era, I just quit the game when I realized I should be at Home with a Wifi connection to play it on my ipod. At least, I'll be able to play Orions 2 anywhere, on any device.

Hey, don't bump the O2 thread by talking about Shadow Era. We have our own thread with 100+ posts per day! :p

I would spread some disinformation about O2 too, but that wouldn't really be nice. The developer never comes here to the most popular source of information for his own game, so it wouldn't be a fair fight.

@dboeren: If you didn't realize, Shadow Era is completely free to play. You can buy whatever cards you want with gold earned through gameplay, or even do some free trial offers on our website or take surveys to earn shadow crystals to buy decks or booster packs. The next version will also have more ways to get free crystals on the iPhone version, like installing other free games.

SO, putting all the free ways aside, I'm sure you know that O2 is not free. Assuming it launches at $4.99, that's the equivalent of 5 booster backs or 5 entire class decks in Shadow Era, meaning you can build whatever competitive deck you want with that. So please, make sure you get your facts straight and make fair comparisons...

@thevagrant: Offline play is one of the major new features in the next update for Shadow Era. It will most likely be out before O2 is released.

And now back to your regularly scheduled O2 waiting...

For those who miss the reference, I believe it is http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/the-cake-is-a-lie--5.

As long as it doesn't devolve into a Charlie Sheen type thing, I'm fine with some gentle ribbing. Plenty or room for both. ;)

What I really want is to see Kyle and Pavel duke it out on both games. ;) ;) ;) ;)

You can gift the game instead if buying twice for yourself. It's what I do for games I wanna support.

You don't need to 'shell out cash' on premium(?) cards. You just have to play for a bit to earn in-game gold/crystals. So, you can either pay a few dollars, or play the cpu/human opponents for a bit, and get a starter deck. Absolutely no cards require 'real money' purchase. And it's very easy to get the cards you need. So unless you are both greedy AND lazy, it shouldn't be a problem.

Although if you couldn't figure that out for yourself, you'd probably be better off avoiding the game anyway.

Not really the place to keep talking about Shadow Era but I feel like I ought to reply.

I had thought you could only buy "common" type cards and the rares were only in packs. So thanks for pointing out my error. I have indeed bought some cards using the gold earned in game. In most games following a similar model, there is a sharp difference between what you can buy with the currency you can earn in game and the currency you must purchase. If that is not the case here, then that's fine, but it was not obvious and there must be some reason two types exist.

I'll give it another try and see how it goes.

I've been playing the beta for over two months now. Imho (without reservation), O2 is already complete and could rest on its laurels without requiring anything additional. That said, I am hoping for more along the way. I believe there is room for new cards and frankly, I'd be willing to pay for expansions and new updates with more challenges in Challenge mode.

Some of the old cards could be worked into the mix and new cards could certainly be developed, even if they were cards that used older artwork (i.e., Golem, Unicorn, etc.).

Constructed deck was not MP in the last build but there will be one final build, so who knows. If it's not there, I'd love to see it in an update.

However, all of this is going to rest on demand. The more of us who buy it, play online and comment online, the better the odds will be.

    Another step closer

In the next couple of hours, I will be downloading what should be the final build for O2. I expect the last remaining problems are now fixed and although I am only speculating, we should be VERY close to a submission [fingers crossed that it is perfect now].

As a former professional game programmer, I think have a good sense just how complicated this project has been. Despite the many complaints I have seen about O1 and the delay in getting O2 to market, this has not been a cakewalk.

While I cannot guarantee that those who buy the game will be satisfied, I expect them to be very happy campers. Meneisyss has promised a strategy guide and online play should make this into a totally awesome experience for those looking for depth. Couple this with the various methods of play vs. AI and I believe this game will stand out very nicely in terms of value.

Are you kidding me? All of this pushing to get MP implemented and the single biggest draw of a customizable card game STILL DOESN'T GET MULTIPLAYER. I am literally outraged. This game just went from an instabuy for me to a game I will almost certainly NEVER PLAY. All this time, for YEARS NOW, I've been giving this developer the benefit of the doubt but THEY CLEARLY DON'T GET IT!

CONSTRUCTED DECK is the HEART AND SOUL of a customizable card game. I can not believe that Constructed multiplayer, after all this time, will STILL be missing from the f#@^!*g game.

I've been waiting and waiting with such anticipation. I've put up with the bugs in O1 and the complete lack of MP. I've pushed and pushed others to take an interest in this game. I've promoted it. I've gifted O1 to friends and family. I'm probably responsible for about 50 sales of O1 if not more by trickle down but this is the FINAL STRAW. I'm done with Orions if the release is missing constructed multiplayer. And that means I will be pushing friends and family to AVOID THIS TITLE AT ALL COSTS.

I am completely, totally disillusioned and disappointed and now I'm even more frustrated that TA has written about O2 and still continues to ignore Shadow Era. ($*#@)($*)#($*)@#$(!!!

Good grief, chill. It IS multiplayer. We were asked initially to do only duels, since the draft procedure was not nailed down and there were problems that took what seemed forever to properly address. I guess you think it's just nothing at all to throw in a mode of play here and there.

There has never been a post on this thread that guaranteed constructed mp would be ready for the initial release, so your disillusionment is puzzling and I am disappointed that you would take a 180 degree turn so quickly. Only duels and drafts were mentioned. The only references to constructed were that it works for play versus AI.

Constructed would not be the same as SE in any event, since everyone has access to ALL cards. Part of the metagame in collectibles is collecting. You can't collect what everybody - including yourself - already owns.

In O2, my take is Draft is the more interesting challenge but we'll see. Hey look, I have no skin in this game at all and in fact am dedicating myself to losing a few bucks to gift this to at least three people and who knows, maybe more depending upon the game's reception.

If I have to guess, there will eventually be constructed mp. It would certainly make more sense if Pavel releases new cards, wouldn't it?
