So, guys, I've played multiplayer over GC in both duel and draft mode. It's EXCELLENT! Now that multiplayer is getting right, Orions2 will be one of the best (if not THE best) strategy games for iOS - as was THE best game for Windows Mobile.
Currently, it's synchronous. Dunno if asyn mode will also be implemented. IMHO, as opposed to e.g. UniWar where there're a LOT more units to pay attention to (or chess), it's not that important to also have async multiplayer.
I would hope asynchronous where you wait for your opponent. I'd HATE to play in real time against someone. Any chance of getting custom sound push notification. You know like words with friends and carcassone. b/c that would just be icing on the cake
On suspending & multitasking-capable machines and OS'es (3GS+, iPad 4+, iPT3rd+), the GC connection remains active if you suspend the app to, say, quickly read a Web page while the other party moves. It worked pretty reliably in my iP4 + iPad 4.2 tests.
Wow, that's really promising to my ears! While an option to play either way, async or sync, would be really nice, if it has to be one way or another, with a game like this, I think I prefer synchronous gameplay to keep things moving along. This is sounding better all the time, thanks for the updates!
Great to hear that Multiplayer was finally implemented. To me this is a very good sign for the future of the game, that the dev finally listens to the fan-base. With ocasional updates with new cards and/or new challenges in that delicious-looking Challenge Mode you guys previewed, this will be huge! Now if only they could actually give a reliable release date
Given that duels generally do not last all that long, I don't think implementing async is needed (plus it will delay release even more). Menneisyys & I had one epic duel that probably went past the ten minute mark, and I finally surrendered after his Chimera ensured there was no way I was going to bring him to zero before me. It's really everything you could have possibly hoped for! There are a few chinks to iron out and a few things will probably need to be reconfigured/added but the important thing is it works.
multiplayer sounds awesome and if its implemented right it could rock the ios card game lovers world. i still play orions as alot of people do and cant wait for the sequel and multiplayer.
I don't know about asynchronous not needed. It's what people expect from games like these. iPhone/ iPod is a mobile market and to ignore that aspect would be pretty bad. I don't see myself sitting and playing a 10 min game against someone. Asychronous multiplayer is what I was expecting.
it was supposed to come late January but since multiplayer sounds so close, it seems theyre delaying release a couple weeks so I'm thinking mid February or so but I'm just speculating
You have to remember though that you and other beta testers are big fans. As a non-fan of the series I don't really like being stuck in a game for a while. For example carcassone has quikplay but I hardly play it instead opting for asynchronous games. I'm going about my day and take out the phone, make a move and close. I hardly ever play these games in one session. I usually play different games for that. So yea I still think that not shootings asynchronous is a bad idea. I'd still buy it bc I'm more interested in campaign and such but I want this game to be successful and I think that might hurt it. Any chance you guys can suggest custom sound for push notifications?
I don't think Orions needs asynchronous. Its not that deep of a game and most matches take under 6-7 mins or so which don't seem like a big deal to me. A synch would drive people crazy waiting for the next guy to move when he remembers hes been playing a game
Everyone is overlooking the chances thy you'll find someone online especially as time goes on. Sure in the beginning you'll have lots of ppl online but as time goes on fewer people will come back. Why do you think games like words with friends and carcassone have such a lasting appeal? Sure it's not complicated but people want asynchronous. Maybe you guys that are the more "hardcore" Orion players will dusagree but if all they targeted was the fans from the original, I doubt they'd make enough of a profit by app store pricing. Anywho I've said my two cents regarding asynchronous. It'll be a real shame if it's not implemented considering thats the expectation for these types of games.
