And that's you and your opinion. And debating with critics is pointless as well (but let me try). Your argument fails on one very important basis; it is either worth the money for those who like it or not worth the money for those who do not. Those who do not should not buy it. For those who do, a price point of $X (whatever) is not likely to be an issue, especially since there is soooooo much more goodness with O2. But don't take my word for it. And the thread has very much been focused on making the game better. There have been any number of posts cajoling the developers about multi-player and personally, I'm sure the three of us testing it have pushed Pavel on it. I know I have. As for bugs, I know we have already taken care of a couple of major problems, including the notorious phantom cast, which Pavel intimated was a tough one to fix. Your primary issue seems to be price and your rationale seems to be that if the game were not all that much fun, it would/should have been priced lower and thus, more fairly. Sorry, but that is really busted logic. If you doubt the value of O2, then for sure, stay away from it, although I suspect you are already inclined to do so.
This is actually the reason I'd buy it. I can't stand multiplayer games or those that focus on that aspect. Decent AI and/or campaign is enough for me.
It's not a plain port - it has TONS of new cards, new music and new functionality (see e.g. the new duel modes) compared to the WinMo version.
Re music; I've spent HOURS with this and the music hasn't bugged me at all. The loop fits the mood perfectly, although I must admit I keep the sound low on purpose. Found one new bug with negative elements and maybe you and Izzy can duplicate it. So far, I've been unable to.
I couldn't replicate it yet. I'll try it again. Any more news? The game was scheduled for this month, I was kinda expecting to see a marketing campaign by now.
I told Pavel their site is still blocked by Google, so I don't know what's up with marketing but how do you market if the potential audience is turned away by the threat of malware? I would also assume a delay is due to work on multiplayer but don't know. It could be anything. Re negative elements, only had it once in one game for both Earth & Fire on AIs side. Never duplicated since. Afaic, if the phantom cast bug is fixed the game is good to go, although I still have a wishlist. 1) slow the animations of spells cast by AI. They cross the screen way too quickly. Then the AI attacks and the log doesn't go back far enough to see what was cast. 2) show card descriptions when selected in draft or construct and drag card offscreen to select.
He should only advertise http://imoregames.com/, not the old http://pocketmoregames.com/ You can always tap the log; it'll show the entire log in a separate dialog. Would be nice to implement with touch-and-hold. Dragging would make card selection too slow.
I purchased the original way back when the game first launched, but never really played it. I am quite keen to get into this sequel if the buzz is as good as it seems, however, I get the vibe that people feel like the original was broken somehow. I would like to go back and re-try it at least to get a flavour before the new game comes out, is it worth a try? was that completely unplayable broken or could you play a decent single player campaign and get some enjoyment out of it? Thanks in advance for any responses.
IMHO, Orions1 is in no way broken - I've played it in single player dual mode in the last two years and was prefectly happy with it (read: no bugs in dual mode). It's just that it doesn't support any kind of remote multiplayer and it hasn't received any upgrades.
Yeah, but the campaign got boring after I played through it 2 times. On the iPhone. On my HTC, with the two expansions, it was great, I played it for dozens of hours. But the buggy, uncared iPhone version was just waste of money.
It will be more interesting with O2 (I'm in one now). First of all, 116 cards makes for many more new choices, so constructing your deck is a more fun challenge. Also, the addition of a Black Market building makes deck construction easier. But twice would probably be enough for me, too.
It's not broken. The bugs are mild and annoying at best. Otherwise, it's an absolutely absorbing, wonderful game experience. DO PLAY IT! I have happily sunk many, many hours into Orions 1.
And yet, being able to play your iPod app music is REQUIRED for all games. I'm sorry, that's not even my opinion, imo. It IS required. I just hope Pavel: - Includes push-based multi - Drops Orions 1 price point to 99 cents to serve as a Lite version for O2 (and because it's been long enough that 5 bucks is obscene) - Provides at least ONE update after O2 launches (the fact that O1 is on 1.0 is flat out unprofessional) - Sets the O2 price point at something more like 2.99 - Does the bare minimum of promoting the game - Builds in an avenue for IAP If the above, or something close, happens, I think the game will be far more successful than O1. Which had, let's face it, a host of game-unrelated, but nevertheless success-crippling problems.
THe more I talk about Orions 2 on twitter, the more newcomers ask if Orions 1 is worth it. I want to say "yes", but I can't wholeheartedly recommend O1 at this point, mostly because of the price -- it's a two year old game (or more, if you consider it's a port) with no updates for $5 -- and due to the fact that the second one is coming out soon. They REALLY should make Orions 1 $.99 again, or even free. Companies have made their games free to advertise the upcoming sequel before (a recent example of this was Geared). If Orions 1 was free, I'd plug it relentlessly on twitter to build up awareness about the series and the upcoming sequel. SPEAKING OF THE SEQUEL, I just received some reaaaaaally exciting news
