Here's me crossing all my fingers. Orions 2 will still be a STELLAR game without it, but god dammit, it'd be just perfect if it had it.

What exactly do you guys mean by "phantom casting"?

    phantom cast

    Okay, case in point:

Looking at Life spells: I doubletap "Peace" to see what it does. No thanks, try to cast Pegasus but somehow Peace gets cast instead.

Now, I'm not 100% certain this is a bug, it could possibly be just my feeble manipulation of the cards. But others have noticed the same thing in Orions. It doesn't seem to be a major problem - it doesn't happen all that often, but it is definitely an annoyance.

I'm just trying to pin down exactly when, where and why it occurs.

IN FACT I THINK I JUST DISCOVERED WHY! COOL. :D hehe

Ahhh, that! Yeah, that was a problem back in Orions 1. Definitely something that needs to be worked on.

    Phantom Cast Poll

If you've ever played Orions, please respond:

A phantom cast means you swipe one spell to be cast and another is cast instead.

If you've never experienced this, please respond NO

If this HAS ever occurred, please respond whether you are LEFTY or RIGHTY.

Don't stop there. Orions would make for one of the best tactical iOS MMOs or semi-MMOs I've ever played. Let us run around and conquer castles, buy cards and duel it out online, in a persistent world, and you might not only have an instant classic on your hands, but a hugely popular game...

Yeah... The summoner has nice and sharp visuals when compared to the blurry rainbow mess of orions. That really sucks !

I bought the Summoner and frankly, I am not very impressed. The graphics aren't all that stellar, the gameplay is badly tought out and the cards are confusing.

I only played like half an hour, however compared to the 30 seconds it took for Orions to hook me in I'd say that Orions is, at least for me, the better of the two.

I think I'll wait for Orions regardless--it's tried and true, gameplay-tested over the years since Windows Mobile. I still occasionally break out my dusty old Kaiser to play Deckmasters all this time later. I'd rather bank on a sure thing...and having multiplayer duels will make it all the more perfect.

    beta testing almost finished

I am nearing the end of my testing and am really, really happy to report the game is a vast improvement over Orions. There are a few minor problems that I have made Pavel aware of and I suspect they are going to do their best to implement multi-player mode as quickly as possible.

Campaign mode - I played one and a half campaigns with Orions and the same for O2. O2 has some very nice tweaks that make the Campaign a lot more interesting. Not a big fan of this mode but it does work well. First of all, you have a better choice of cards from your losing opponent. Also, it seems a lot easier to build your deck as you progress and the newest feature, being able to build a Black Market to buy cards from, really helps a lot. Rated a "B+" for improvement.

Duel Mode - having a much larger deck helps so much because there are so many new cards, which means new combos, more fun exploring strategies, etc. Rated an "A" for improvement.

Challenge Mode - a brilliant idea, setting up 9 challenges wherein the starting position is predetermined and you then attempt to win. For instance, "Leverage," where you begin the game with a Leviathan in the left hand slot. Nice, huh? Well, your AI opponent begins with 2 Knights in the right slots. They deal 7 damage each. It's not going to be easy to counter the leverage. Hours of fun in this mode guaranteed and hopefully, the promise of more challenges to come. Rated an "A+" for improvement.

Deck construction Mode - either for against the AI or when multiplayer comes out, omg, how good can this get? There are sooooo many new ways to go that I don't think anyone is ever going to wear this mode out. Rated an "A+" for improvement.

Draft Mode - are you kidding? Even against the AI, a very fun way of testing your skills at drafting. you are both choosing 4 cards each from the same pool of 10, so it is not only what you choose, it is what you leave. Rated an "A" for improvement.

Overall, O2 is for me, a definite "A" and I would be happy to delete the Beta and buy it when it finally arrives. PLEASE PAVEL, GIVE IT MULTIPLAYER!

Agreed. Also played it for about half an hour. It's just incomparably worse than Orions, let alone Orions 2. It's plain not fun / engaging to play, the cards are illogical, the music is bad and repetitive, the gameplay is slow etc.

Agreed. In about 30% of the games could I beat the AI in this mode.

Custom decks are still 24-card only, just like in the Winmo version of Deckmasters. Or, what are you referring to?

Nothing particular... teaching iOS and Samsung Bada programming, soon the same for Windows Phone 7....

Graphically, it may be superior (albeit, the animations of killing cards are far-far worse and less spectacular). Gaming-wise, there's just no comparison - Orions (2) is far better.

Sorry, should have worded differently. Replace "deck" with "pool of cards."

Sorry buddy, but no. Orions isn't a "blurry rainbow mess". The colors make perfect sense, especially if you have any experience with cards games like Magic. It's not flashy and 3D with bump mapping and pixelshading and what have you but it doesn't NEED any of those things.

The graphics on Summoners on the other hand (at least on the screenshot) make it look like late 90s games with those hideous 3D sprites. I may be way off base here, but that's the idea I got from looking at the screenshots, so...

    I'm a righty.

The problem I've encountered (not sure if it's the exact same) is that I try to cast a spell, and what happens is that the "card dock" slides to the side and I'm now holding a different card -- more often than not, a card I don't have the mana to cast. I have to go and tap again on the card I originally intended to cast.

I haven't had a whole lot of time to sink into the Orions 2 beta yet, but I intend to rectify this in the next few days. As it stands, the game is pretty much finished and I'd bet they are not too far from releasing it.

We need to talk to Pavel about pricing. The $4.99 price point for the original Orions crippled the potential for the game. Remember, it had no lite version, no multiplayer, no marketing campaign and no updates for literally years. These are KEY AREAS they will have to give some attention.

Orions 2 should be no more than $2.99. You and I know how the AppStore works; that's about the right price point before people start complaining about it being expensive. They could go higher, but they'd need a Lite version so people could give it a shot before spending the money.
