Suggestion Reiner Knizia's Battleline was just updated and is now multiplayer, sync, async, even a chess timer if you want. Solid two player game with another update coming soon to address a few small problems. Developer listens. Implementation is great and the game is a classic. Just thought some of you might enjoy this.
I saw that earlier and was debating on gettin it, well I will get it now I guess. You be down for a few games later?
Absolutely. If you don't know the game, play a couple of basic games vs. AI, then a couple of advanced games and you'll be fine.
Nope. We should have an O2 day sometime and just play this for old times sake. Kinda burned out on Kard Combat. Been playing Reiner's Samurai and Linebattle though, and a platformer and FFT. Dunno...
Last surgery was this morning. Thank God for the iPad. Should be a few weeks for recovery. I've gone online a couple of times for O2, no one home. How incredibly sad. Meanwhile, I have 5 async games of Battline going, 9 for Ascension, have played Puert Rico twice multiplayer (sync only) and even Tikal async. Not to mention Carcasonne and Kard Combat. Pity. O2 is such a great game....
Well, I finally played that O2 Lite thing the other day, and I have to admit I was reminded of some of the things I liked about the original Orions. There's a lot of good game in there. However, even just noodling around for an hour reinforced some obvious truths: 1. O2 needs to be universal. Or, hell, sell a separate iPad version. Whatever. But it's awfully cramped on the postage-stamp-sized iPhone screen. 2. Scrap the campaign and make it actually fun. I took economics classes in college; I don't need to relive them in my iOS gaming, thanks just the same. 3. Slow the goddamn thing down. Or make it an option to do so. I know what the cards can do in Card Combat because I'm able to watch them; I can't even come close to following the action in O2. It's a shame this title looks like it's withering on the vine already. There's a really good core game in there, but it feels like too much work to get to it.
There's more. As it turns out, IzzyNobre was right. There needs to be an async mode as well and for certain, a lobby to arrange matches. I'll try to be around in Sunday from to time. I should be easy pickings. Can't concentrate all that well (been thru the f*cking mill) but I expect to whup ass again soon enough. I cannot believe it. Eleven weeks, no update. I'll be on tonight about 8 edt to try and get a3 or 4 player of Puerto Rico going. At 9 I'll be on for Battleline. Hope to see you! And of course, Ascension and KC.
All it needs is bug fixes and a better lobby and Dukes right, just cut the entire campaign. Anything would honestly be better than that piece of crap. Bug Fixes are the easy part. Better lobby would actually take some work which Paval has shown he won't do. Anything async would honestly be an upgrade at this point. Fix Draft. Fix AT LEAST the crashing bugs (blademasters vs blademaster). Fix inconsistant mana at begin. Add Async. ANY async system at all, it doesn't have to be as polished as Ascension just playable! MAYBE balance a few of the cards but this isn't even needed to be played. I'd honestly buy the game again for 5$ if they did this.
Didnt I tell you such a long time ago that without async, this game's multiplayer was gonna die EDIT: I think it'll be a lot easier for Pavel to just wait to do asyn for iOS5....remember Apple is supporting async multiplayer for gamecenter games now.
Yes, and so did IzzyNobre, out of the gate. It's almost three months now. I'd be quite surprised if Pavel is not completely done with this franchise. Aarrggh.
Ok, so I go online tonight. 6 minutes later, the network game message appears, wait a few, no game. Try again, no game. Meanwhile, I have 9 games of Ascension going, 4 of Battleline, 2 of Kard Combat (and have played two others today, both synch and asynch), 4 games of Tikal and usually get in a synch game of Puerto Rico every day. Ticket To Ride? Anytime I want. Same with Carcasonne (4 games going), same with Samurai (played out on this one for awhile). What a waste of a terrific franchise. And the Kard Combat developers have been bending over backwards with their support. If you haven't tried it, you really, really ought to.
Well.. it has the same definition as in English, but it seems like not for Pavel I think an update would rejuvenate the game.. like the spell of the same name. Constant updates with new cards and fixing bugs = lots of customers. I wonder why is he throwing away an advantage..
It's over three months now. Promises don't last forever. At this point, I consider the promise has been broken. I've moved on. I was able to find a player last week. We played two games, I lost both. Not even sure my heart was in it. My record had been terrific at one point, even won something like 14 straight games early on. But there are too few online now to even care. I can always find a game on the others I play. Those other games are either bug free, like Carcasonne, or have developers who RESPOND. What a sad, sad waste of a fantastic franchise.
Yup, it sucks. Orions is a great foundation for a successful gaming franchise but both the developer and the publisher obviously consider it a one-off, a throwaway. Its a loss for everyone - us and them. In the meantime I've played about 70 hours of Spectromancer on my PC - all multiplayer. Its an extremely well-balanced game. But Orions, with its concentration on card abilities and combos, provided a very different and more unpredictable type of gameplay. My hope for Orions is that, in this age of 'game-cloning' in the App Store, some other dev takes inspiration from it and creates a well-supported game from that.
Or the Invisible Russian could just sell it. It would be a win-win. He wouldn't have to interact with other people ever again; Orions fans would get a new developer who couldn't possibly do a worse job with support.
