    LOL, Orions "Mini"?

Are they really THAT out of touch with the AppStore? Come on now.

Still, a great game, and a day-one purchase like I always said it'd be. I'm doing a write up about it on my website and on twitter.

Yup, that's what we had to work with. The same 116 cards. A few were changed/tweaked and I got to write flavor text for a couple.

I did have a beef with the breakup of the elements, felt a couple were too creature light and proceeded to provide the math as proof but I think we were too far into the testing process at that point for Pavel to be able to change the mix.

However, it works fine. There may be an odd game where you are critter light (especially in Life) but it shouldn't hold down the enjoyment level.

    Hi all

Thanks for being so patient with the release of Orions 2. We're sure it is worth the wait! It's a really great game and the fan response on here has been magnificent!

To celebrate the release of this awesome title we've also slashed the price of Orions 1 to just 99 cents!

    Thanks again!

You were doing just fine. I was wondering what you were waiting for - at one point you were up to 13 Fire and I was kinda worried about that. Waiting for double Diablos I guess. That could have easily turned it around.

Hint: Ethereal should be saved for really big critters that are hard to remove, like Elementals. Hey, your Water elemental has 18 power and does NOTHING to my Ethereal. Sorry about that! :p

Anybody playing with the Campaign? Is it still an unstable mess as the original? In my first attempt it started crashing after I tried to build something in one of my fire territories at about the third turn. The game autosaved itself right before that point but even after a fresh re-boot it still crashes at that same point if I try to build my second structure in that territory. :(

Picked it up last night at 11:10. Haven't had a chance yet to look into online MP but will this weekend for sure. In the meantime, here's my initial impressions:

    1. Orions 1 was a fantastic, breakthrough game on the WinMo platform when it was released. So much so that I continued to carry around a WinMo PDA strictly for Orions after getting first an iTouch and later an iPhone. Once Orions came out for iOS I finally retired the old WinMo device and gobbled up Orions on iOS. I loved it an encountered only a few, non-game-breaking bugs, though some of them are annoying. Still the first and for a while ONLY iOS based TCG-like game and a breakthrough for the platform.

    2. The developers of this game are Russian and don't speak English as a native language. That right there puts the quality control for the text in the game squarely in the hands of the publisher, Chillingo. Since it's been in Chillingo's hands for at least a month and they supposedly did all this intensive QA on it, I'm further convinced that Chillingo has gone drastically downhill in the past couple of years. I do NOT blame the devs for the grammatical errors, they did their best with it and probably relied heavily on their US-based, English-speaking publisher to catch and correct any of these types of errors. Chillingo dropped the ball, instead focusing their attention on Crystal support and the bugs adding it introduced. This was a ridiculous waste of time and resources. Game Center was already there and working fine during the beta (from what I understand, I did not participate in the beta myself). Crystal was an unnecessary and wasteful addition that probably added more bugs and didn't allow for time for the grammatical polish the game could clearly use.

    3. This new game, O2, is, mostly, an expansion/rebalacing of the original and feels almost like it should have been introduced as a $2.99 IAP rather than a separate game. However, going back and adding IAP may have been more difficult than just doing a new build, so the devs probably took the path of least resistance here. Sometimes these decisions have to be based on practicality.

    4. Finally, O2 is a solid successor to O1 and I do LOVE the game. The gameplay mechanics have been wonderful since O1 on WinMo and have remained superb. There are lots of little things I wish were different like retina support, native-iPad support and a few others. However, the game is still FANTASTIC and worth every penny of $2.99 (would have paid up to $9.99 for this one!). I hope fervently that the developers and Chillingo support this one better than they did O1 with bug fix AND content updates.

All in all, I think my biggest problems with this game lie with the publisher rather than the developer. Chillingo has put practically NO support behind O1 or O2, including a complete lack of advertising and pointing to a TA thread with links for more about the game on their own web site (how lazy can you be!?). I wish MoreGames had dropped Chillingo as a publisher and either released this one on their own or partnered with someone else to publish it. Hell, my own studio would have been happy to help with the publishing side of things and we'd probably have done it for very little $ or even free, that's how much WE love these games and believe in their potential to take a huge share of players if only it had the backing it needs.

Anyway, for anyone whose on the fence, drop the $3 and enjoy the game, it's worth it. For anyone who is saying based on what they've read on TA they are going to pass, I urge you to reconsider. The gameplay is still some of the best mobile CCG/TCG gameplay I've ever encountered and the game has depth and strategy galore! And don't forget, people tend to complain a LOT more than they offer praise, so for every post here bitching about the game, there are probably 5-10 players out there loving the game and just not talking about it.

Best of luck to Pavel and the MoreGames team with this release and congrats on finally getting it out there! My only advice is next time, consider a different publisher who is willing to put the time, effort and money into backing your products they way they should be, rather than treating your titles like the red-headed step-children.

Grammer? Did you write "grammer?" :D

Re spelling and grammar errors, you can probably blame me for some of that. I took it upon myself to correct errors on the cards but never though about going through the instruction text. Pavel was probably relying on me for that, so I apologize for not being as thorough as perhaps I should have been.

The cards should be okay for the most part, though.

Suffice it to say, whatever errors I have previously seen have not bothered me in the slightest. Even the ones I corrected were no big deal.

I immediately bought it this morning. And I love the multiplayer. It is really exciting and the battle can really go back and forth. I once won after being behind 16 against 33.

We need more players though. I am number one of the Netherlands. And possibly the only player, too :) Number 10 worldwide. In game my name is Ironthorn by the way.

I discovered Magic the Gathering recently (yeah, I know it's been around for 18 years) and I think Orions really captures the feeling of those duels. And without the problem of Magic that if you spend 100$ you'll be better off than when you spend 20$. Better still, it's only 3$.

    Five stars from me.

And is "Rasten" on this forum as well? I played him three times now. Won only once :(

Right. There are many who appear to have at best an agenda with iMore (and Chillingo) and are willing to prosecute every iota of perceived dissatisfaction. That is really too bad for them. If you do not enjoy the game, it's very simple. You do not buy it, you do not play it.

If you do buy it and play it and do not enjoy it, you always have the option of writing the developer and requesting improvements. There is never any guarantee you will get what you want, but this is the way life works.

Are there improvements or issues I want fixed with O2? You bet. Do I want updates? You bet. Will I inform them? You bet. [in fact, already did, weeks ago]

Whether I get what I want or not, there's no point for me to continually press anger buttons. I enjoy the crap out of the game and believe I will continue to do so for several years to come. That's outrageously fortunate for me.

OMG Afyzendo, you must be Ironthorn! Yeah man, the 3 games we had were all good--could have gone either way each time, much fun playing with you! At this point, I think everyone but the beta testers will still be getting used to the cards, and how to deal with certain recalcitrant abilities.

Also, Xeroskye, Valor isn't bugged--the card description says that it does damage equal to half its attack power. I'll agree that the mechanic is pretty strange, but I don't think it's a bug.

I'm still trying to figure out how the math of Raise Dead works--seems inconsistent at time, but I'll have to test more.

Also, the Achievement, "Win 20 Duels" really should apply only to multiplayer. I was awestruck when I got the achievement after winning only..three? or so duels in multiplayer; the rest were from messing around against the AI.

Valor only does 10 if there's no critter on the other side.

    Chat mode

For those who have two devices or can play near a laptop/desktop, you can chat via Skype. Meneisyss & i tried it during our beta tests and it works, although it can be a bit cumbersome.

If you MUST chat, that's the way to do it.

I did clearly document it in my original post, including a screenshot. So here we go again:

I can't find any match in multiplayer since I bought the game this morning. Any clues? :(

Played the full version last night, very stable, the only time it crashes for me is if there are two much effects going on, i.e. when an attack harms my blademaster and activates the effect but the opponent also has a blademaster on the field..

I did notice one bug, i think, when opponent has all 5 slots filled, they can still cast spell, it happened a couple times, all of them is the same death spell, i think it was under swarm

It looks to me as though everyone can cast spells when all five slots are filled, both in MP and against the AI. Bug, intended, doesn't matter to me as long as it is consistent. Anyone else able to confirm?
