well the "review" reads more like an description imho.. which is ok but the hole "review" part is somewhat missing .. at least to me.. especialy if you compare that "review" to the other ones on the frontpage.. like there is a "read more" button not shown.. hmm.. maybe i thought a senior would do a review.. maybe even eli himself since he is an TCG fan. well anyway... its a front page review alot guys in here asked for (over and over). thnx
Hodapp, are you really the TA Editor? The tone of your reply to mr.Ugly's comments didn't sound very professional. To be fair, I think he has a point; the O2 review wasn't the best I've ever read. It seemed somewhat cursory and unbalanced and didn't mention any of the bad points of the game, like the several bugs that are present and the poor grammar in the card descriptions (to name just two issues). Personally, I would expect a good review to pick up on both good and bad aspects of an app, in order to assist the reader with making an informed purchase. In my opinion, the O2 review did not succeed in this. It's not the worst review I've ever read, but it could have been a lot better. I must say I was quite surprised at your response to mr.Ugly.
How would you preferred that I phrase the question? I was (and still am) genuinely curious of what he's looking for. Orions 2 is a great sequel to an established franchise we like. I can't speak for Colette, but I didn't come across any substantial bugs that ruined the game for me in any way, and I don't really think that poor grammar has even the slightest impact on the gameplay (which is solid). Moregames is an indie developer that likely doesn't have a copy editor in house, and getting worked up over grammar in an otherwise fantastic game has always seemed uncomfortably pedantic to me unless it's detrimental to the actual gameplay. Honestly, the only down-side to Orions 2 for me is the developer's shaky track record of supporting their previous game. I'm not sure how relevant speculating on what they will or won't do through updates is relevant in this review though, as I feel the game is fairly feature complete and basically just delivers as a sequel in every way.
I would expect a bit of professionalism from someone in your position. Sure, you will never please everyone all of the time with an app review (or a review on any other subject, for that matter), but a more appropriate and measured response on your part would count for a lot. I think poor grammar does have an impact on gameplay, especially when the description of a card's effect is on the ambiguous side. It means you have to play the card to find out exactly what its effect is, rather than knowing what the effect is just by reading it. So I would have to disagree on your assertion that gameplay is "solid". For the record, I own Orions 2 and I like the game. But it is far from as good as you make out. You say you didn't come across any substantial bugs, which surprises me. If you read some of the comments in the O2 thread, you'll see that players have reported numerous bugs that affect the game. If you are genuinely curious as to what mr.Ugly is looking for, then I suggest you go about asking in a more polite manner, instead of being so blunt. I detected some hostility in your response to his post and I took umbrage to your manner and tone, which is why I questioned it. Had you not been the Editor of TA, I probably would not even have bothered to post what I did. Anyway, I guess we will agree to disagree on this one. You have your opinion and I have mine. There's nothing wrong with a bit of healthy debate, after all.
There isn't any hostility there, I'm sorry I was direct with my question I guess? I didn't mean for anyone to read between the lines on it, in fact, that's why it was so brief.
What a surprise. Online is busted and sometimes it's necessary to close the app and try again before a connection is established.
Someone told me that may be a problem with Crystal or GC and not the fault of the app. However, I'm no expert so I don't know how true that is.
Sorry, not buying it. Other games work fine. It's just more of the abandonware treatment from the Invisible Russian.
Alternatively, he could free up the source codes so that it becomes a community project maybe? I'd be more than willing to clean up at least the GC code and also would help in making it iPad-compliant (code-wise - making the gfx high-res must be done by someone else).
