Blood Ritual was already nerfed. If Elementalist is perceived weak, so be it. I don't think there would any repercussions from a fix but the problem was insignificant for the testers. The more pressing problem would be something like changing the creature/spell mix for life from 11/8 to 12/7. The odds of receiving a zero creature draw are low at 1-1/3% but even that's still too high. I've had situations where my one Life creature was a Swordsman and all the spells did pretty much the same thing. Bleh. There are some modest balance issues but the game has been around for a very long time and has been considerably adjusted since. I doubt that Pavel wants to spend more time with it than need be, such as the promised update. I know he is anxious to move on and is already deep into his next project. Yes, I am the world's biggest fanboy and am proud to admit it and at this point, I don't think any changes are needed. We got the obvious matters taken care of. The phantom cast issue alone required two solid weeks on analysis to figure out what it was occurring. Cards were nerfed. Water Troll's cast was increased from 1 to 2 because at 1, it was clearly broken. Ritual was nerfed because at 10 mana, it was on the verge of being broken. There were others. Some have suggested increasing Spider from 6 to 7, which on the surface, looks like a decent idea since it makes it much more difficult to put two on the board. But at the same time, it obviates any possibility of Zeus doing 4 damage to the Spider each turn. Every adjustment usually has implications. On this thread, we make all kinds of suggestions, but most of us are not considering any ramifications. Besides, while Spider is high up on everyone's list, there are many ways to deal with it. It's healthy discussion, which I'm all in favor of and who knows, maybe we do find a broken situation. Some of the combos discussed here, I have never considered and they are fun and powerful. Just bear in mind, further changes are not likely to happen. When the promised update arrives, it should be taking care of issues like the Blademaster loop, hopefully alternating picks in draft and other issues brought up here in the forum. As for card fixes, we'll have to wait and see. Could be, but maybe not.
Good game Nik. I knew if I could shut down your early death rush I was in. There's a hand I seem to pull out a lot, and it works brilliantly. Blademaster, Spider, Slug, Monk. These 4 setup an attack that's hard to defend and repel. I've inadvertently pulled out the combo 3 times now in matches, and won all 3. New tactic: Monk and Kobold.
Btw, Camzy, congrats on getting so many wins in such a short time. One of these days, I'll be around to accept an invite. I enjoy your comments. Please don't ever tire of the game!
Skype Has anyone tried to use Skype for chat during an O2 game? It's a bit clumsy but Menneisyss & I used it in testing and it works. If you can arrange matches beforehand by email or whatever, you might want to try it.
Haha thanks amn. I played Orions 1 for 2 and a half years, never tired of the game. I don't dare count how much time I've put into that game. I was really into iPhone gaming for a bit, but totally cooled down, but through all of this, I always kept Orions on my first screen, and just played duels against the cpu in my spare time. So to see Orions 2 come out, just checking the App Store on a whim, it was practically a dream come true. Finally some real competition...
O and speaking of bugs, I found a glitch when you use mooncast on an Avatar. It made the avatar 148 health!
Check about 30 (???) pages ago. I attached a pic, having set the world's record with 514 life. Avatar typically adjusts itself on the next turn. This time it did not. Durn thing was still over 500 life at the end of the game.
Here it is. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=1758205&highlight=avatar#post1758205 It was Cure Wounds, not Mooncast.
Starting to really like Swordsman. It's a beefy little unit for 4 life. Life is usually just a throwaway element anyway, so to be able to pull one of those out, it buys time for better things. Use as defense, because it's easy to put a hermit in front of it, and then you could be in big trouble. It's also one of the few units decent against water troll.
I have the first Orion, and is a very good game. But without extras and no new version and the priomised.. I am not going to buy this one atm.
I've really been enjoying this. I've only been dueling against the CPU and I am getting better. I'll probably check out the campaign or online soon. I have not yet ran into any bugs, but I hope they will get fixed.
I don't doubt that there was a ton of time spent on balancing O2 so far. But Camzy is absolutely on the right track - there are some simple changes that could make an already great game better. The excuse that the fun will be taken out of the game by nerfing certain cards is very hollow IMO. If Blood Ritual wasn't so powerful, we'd have to adjust strategies and consider more options - instead of starting with Blood Ritual and Fire Elemental and going straight for that combo. The worst I see are: Fairy (only 3 cost and 1 cost per ability is totally ridiculous. 4 and 2 would still be powerful) Water Troll (no need for 3 regen per turn, AND the 2x damage. 2 regen and 1.5x damage would still be powerful) Blood Ritual (it needs to do more damage, and/or subtract other color mana) Manticore (attach some sort of cost to its hugely powerful ability) And then other cards are terrible, like Elementalist, Sea Monster and Scylla. I understand the dev is very 'hands-off' and doesn't want to spend any more time on O2 than absolutely necessary, but we are talking about tweaking some numbers in a text file, right? No new programming is necessary for these balance tweaks.
Congrats to Bronian. Ended my 12 game winning streak Sure reKirtS, would love to have a match. Nice post Floyd. But I have to disagree with Fairy and Manticore being overpowered. Fairies are easy to kill, and are unsustainable, even though they do make amazing end game units to try and "steal" a win. It's what makes it exciting. Manticores are in no way overpowered now. They used to cost 7, and then they were mighty overpowered, but as is, 8 is a little out of reach, and Berserkers kill them in one. They also don't have much health, so put them against a druid or elemental, and they're going down fast. Blood Ritual and Water Troll I will agree are slightly too powerful now though. Water troll needs to have its healing nerfed, but only slightly. 2 health regen would be enough to balance it. Blood Ritual is a tricky one to balance. It has to cost 5 for starters, and boost fire by 5. The other element boosters (Earth Chant, Wings of Wisdom) do. It also needs to be costlier. As proposed earlier, 8 damage to owner would dissuade people from spamming it. It would also make games with it more frantic, riskier and exciting. I love games that are straightout owner shootouts. Edit: Draft mode is really weird. I played 3 games today. 2 against Theodicee, and 1 against this guy Bob or Bobby. I picked first in both games against Theodicee. I had first move, but both games, I was mana screwed. A whole turn of mana (1 of each element) behind. I guess it almost evens out considering I got first pick on all elements. I won both games handily even with the handicap (Wings of Wisdom <3). The match against Bobby I had second pick, and he started, but we had equal mana. Luckily for me, he wasn't a very good player (first air pick was Shadow Clone...)
I love Hydra. It's a great defensive unit. Pull it out to take an opponent's Enslave, then monk it and it does 1 damage to each creature draining opponent's water! Used to perfection in my last game.
Nik I swear I didn't quit that match. There's nothing more satisfying than dealing the last blow, and you fully deserved the win. If there was a connection problem, it was probably on your end though, because I never disconnected.
