At that point I had to gamble you didn't have the Enslave as I didn't have a lot of options with my cards that game. Gotta love the Spiders, but we both got a lot of mileage out of the Berserkers too.
Just discovered a quirky little combo: Infernal + Mooncast. The mooncast will heal Infernal to the complete 44 health even if he entered play with the 22 hit point penalty. This might make Infernal a bit more interesting to play
I accepted it and waited in the lobby till you left and tried to reinvite you no response though. Hope it's part of the bug fixes.
There was one particularly irksome bug in O:LoW, the notorious phantom cast bug, which was totally fixed for 02. There are a few minor bugs with certain cards, such as Blademaster opposite Blademaster causing an infinite loop of damage and a crash, but there is nothing as significant as the Phantom Cast bug nor is there anything else that should detract significantly from one's enjoyment (imho). The developer has promised an update with bug fixes. As for IAP with more cards, challenges, modes etc., the developer is well aware of the demand for same and the willingness of many here on the forum to put money into his pocket. The problem as I see it is that the game is selling only modestly well and until it gets reviewed (hopefully positively) in places like TA and finally, finally gets some push from Chillingo (hello Chillingo, where are you?), it's anyone's guess whether the developer will want to put in the extra effort. Given Chillingo's complete lack of support to date for a phenomenal product, I don't know if the odds are all that good.
Man wish those extra 30 cards that were taken out were rebalanced and added back in I could use a little more variety. Still a great game though.
So was a guide made for this game? It's very complicated and everything doesn't seem to be covered in the tutorial..
If O2 has seen only modest sales, then I think we will be lucky to see an update that squashes as many bugs as possible. As for content updates, forget it. I'm no businessman, but it makes no sense to me to put time and effort into expanding a product unless I know it has a customer base that will make me some profit. And this is where Chillingo need to do what they're being paid for and actually get off their backsides and do some promoting. However, I believe hell will freeze over before that happens. If they haven't done anything by now, and going on past experience on how they conduct themselves, then I don't see them doing anything now or in the future. The only thing that realistically might save O2 is some positive reviews from sites such as TA. The problem is, a well crafted review will pick up on the bugs and issues that currently plague O2; this will not exactly bode well for securing sales, but at least the lite version will help. Which is why it is so important that the lite version is fixed so that it runs as well as it can. No offence to the developer, but I will believe their promises of an update if/when it happens. I have contacted many developers in my time and so many of them come back to me with promises of updates that simply never materialised. Let's hope O2 doesn't join the ranks of those apps that have never advanced beyond the initial version 1.0 release.
@amn624: Thanks, I didn't realize it could sell bad. After all, in AppStore aren't many of these or am I mistaken? (I know about 3 others?) Glad they caught those bugs and didn't make any critical new ones! Promotion, yes! However, I think that's not the only problem. Orions has some annoying barriers to newcomers - standard swiping through a text works weird in the original, wrong (possibly outdated) information don't help either. I know it's ported but it shouldn't be so obvious. I did have a problem to even find a tutorial! I didn't want to start with a campaign while I don't know how to play, but "Show tutorial" button fled away... Therefore I assumed it's about how to play a campaign, right? After I figured how things work and started a campaign - what a surprise! Tutorial taught me about how to fight mostly. Other bits were mentioned very briefly - why I can't build more buildings in a turn, in a orion? (and bugs! buildings placement and disappearing still frustrates me) Ironically, it threw me out of a game with an advice: play it again without the tutorial! It doesn't make any sense to have it made this way. Fighting alone is satisfying, pretty much balanced (at least for me) but to get there is a bit too much. It always strikes me: did devs want not to succeed? :/ I believe a game can build up popularity through adding a new content. It makes it better, it catches attention of more people. I hope Orions 2 will fix it all somehow, the game deserves some recognition. (it's fun )
Unfortunately, the instructions for O2 are not the best in the world, which doesn't help for a game that has a fairly steep learning curve. However, I believe there are some pretty good unofficial strategy guides that players have written; I'm afraid I don't have any links but I know they have been linked to somewhere in this thread. (No doubt amn624 will point you in the right direction). Part of the fun of the game is in discovering how the cards interact with each other. I would say play as much as possible, not only against the AI but, more importantly, against real people. This will give you a good understanding of some of the strategies involved in playing the game well. Also, you will learn some great card combinations. (I am quite fond of the Monk and Solitude combo!) In short, play as much as possible against other players. It's fun and is the best way to learn.
Re sales, it has done modestly well, not modest (card game category). In Russia, I think it has been as high as 10th, but recently I believe it has fallen out of the top 50 in the US. Given the potential the game has as a replacement for all those who are dying for an M:tG app, Chillingo's stepped back attitude thus far is incomprehensible. They have all the requirements here for a huge consumer base and they ignore it. Wow. How many people play M:tG? A zillion? However, it may be that they're just waiting for the first significant slowdown in sales before hopping on the promotion wagon. We'll see. O2 is not losing a lot of traction yet but my view is relative, others might argue it is. You will see an update because the developer promised it.
There are online guides. Just do a Google search. Here's one for a start written by one of our forum members: http://www.mobilitysite.com/boards/games/149918-orions-legend-wizards-strategy-guide-thorough-spell-creature-chart.html It's about the original game but the guy who wrote is working on one for this version.
@amn624: Yes, I've found plenty of them. The point is - a guide should show you something which isn't obvious. Tactics, tips'n'tricks... Game itself should be playable without any external help. It's a bad sign. Don't get me wrong, rules can be figured out pretty easily, but I can imagine it pushed off many players. I absolutely don't understand why they used the very same menus, tutorial... It was obviously not so great then and it's even more obvious now. I've looked at their website. Three people made it? Quite an achievement! *thumbs up*
I don't think it's a good one Two Satyrs or one Berserker => bye-bye Monk Monk + Solitude requires 7+4=11 mana, while 2 Satyrs requires only 4+3=7 mana (the same for Berserker), so it's unprofitable combo. Not to mention the fact that there is Black Wind (for 10 mana and 10<11) or Enslave (11=11). Frankly, I find Solitude spell generally unprofitable. Here are examples of combos that I think are great: 1. Disperser + Acid Storm (or + Chaos Vortex), but you should use it only if you have something like Starfall in case of 15 damage points won't be enough. 2. Blood Ritual + 2 Blade Masters + Rust 3. Lich + Hemit 3.5. Moloch + Hermit 4. Banshee (or Apostate) + Ice Wall 5. Berserker + Moonlight (or + Cure Wounds) allows you to get rid of almost any opponent's card 6. Satyr + Giant Spider (pretty obvious combo ) Warnings for beginners: 1. Do not cast Disperser as your first card in a duel. Your opponent (if he is an experienced player, of course) will put in front of him mana bumping card (like Nymph) or nothing at all. 2. On the second turn try to cast a card with level >=6. The probability that the opponent has Wash Away is almost 1/3. By the way, there is a thing of which I forgot to mention (another bug?). Diablo somehow increases Fire mana by 5 when you or your opponent casts a Fire spell. (so, if you cast, for example, Forbidden Magic, you gain 2 Fire mana for free ) There is a similar problem with Dark Lord. It heals the owner & himself when someone cast Raise Dead. To be honest, the game is a lot of such problems, and I think the problem is not with the specific cards, but with the game engine as a whole. But it's still great. But very few new players. Feature request: please, add an ability to see how many players online in MP mode. p.s. I think we should cancel those "Draft days". I can't find anyone on a Sunday or in the normal duels or on the drafts.
Orions review at Boardgamegeek In case anyone is interested, this is the review I posted at Boardgamegeek.com: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/blogpost/2773/review-orions-2-the-deckmasters And pardon a small bit of self promotion, but below is my own game (boardgame), expected to arrive in stores late June/early July. I promise not to overdo the self promotion thing. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/97094/dark-minions My publisher is not ready to reveal any info about my iPhone/iPad game, slated for release in the fall, but I'll be sure to mention it here when I can.
Hell no! You can't take away my draft days!!! Games are getting hard to find regardless. Blind play is so boring and luck reliant its more of a coin flip TBH. The update needs to have a true alternating system and then draft mode could become the go-to-game rather then blind duels. Its dumb I have to hold off on big monsters cause theres a decent chance my opponent might have Enslave or Bloody Wind when I could know for sure what I'm up against and play accordingly.
I'll keep an eye on it. If you need a beta tester hit me up dude. Send me a message when more info about the gameplay itself is available or just post it in this thread.
