I pushed for async early on but Pavel insisted sync was the way to go and I'm sure he was right. I'm comparing apples to oranges but Ticket To Ride works perfectly as a sync game while Tikal, Samurai and Ra (if they ever fix it), make more sense as async. Point is, Orions typically doesn't take all that long to play and most importantly, you will never remember what cards your opponent had, so you both would be playing blind when you picked up the game again from wherever you left off. That would be truly comical and non-productive.
indeed.. in the end we write text and thats all being read and interpreted very different by each one. one find a sentence hostile another one not.. i probably need to add more silly smiles to funny remarks, which are not meant "by the word" anyway to the interesting part i for myself would definatly support a developer who supports his product and his customers.. i know the shortcomings of the appstore and the tough competition.. but yes i think a premium price could have been asked if they wanted to stay in the niche they are in.. problem is with the current state of the game and the asking price, the audience might be bigger but also tougher.. i think the devs could have learned a thing or two from kyle pole and his shadow era.. maybe it was not the gameplay alot of orions fans wanted but their hole economical approach pretty much nailed it.. how to cater for an wider audience and make an step outside of the niche would i have paid for an real 2011 version of orions, with regular bug-fixes, maybe iap addons (new cards, etc.) yes i would , defiantly.. i spend more money in SE than i did with orions2.. getting your moneys worth was never the problem.. the update politics of orions1 probably made it impossible to sell orions2 at an premium price. who knows.. i don't even think that the initial sales rush is very important.. not for such an product.. if the devs would start supporting it.. ironing out things.. adding new cards, rebellancing other stuff etc.. they could easily increase the price with each update. other developer did the same and it went well.. but you need to offer something in return.. and its questionable if two guys even find the time to really be able to support a product long time.. if they are already starting a new project like amn said, i highly doubt we will see much updates.. if you start a new production you can't switch back and forth between things so easily.. but again i hope for the best.. each single update they do (which actually fixes something not like orions1 last update) will help fix their bad reputation.. and maybe get the one or the other old orions player back onboard.. i would have not bought it if it was not for a good friend needing help getting it to run (we had the same problem which watzki solved!) i would have waited for the first or second update and see the customer feedback with it.. maybe there are more out there who think similar.. who knows.. is orions2 in its current state its money worth , yeah absolutly.. would the big crowd out there agree.. possibly not.. you can get so much playtime out of 99cents nowerdays where the big guys like ea/chillingo, gameloft etc. underselling themself that it may be hard to recoup cost for them at 2,99. maybe more time and effor into bugfixing and polish and a higher price point would have been a bigger success.. in the end the grossing is important not the overall charts position. 10-15$ for an proper 2011 iOS orions, not just an port with the same old bugs... yes immediatly.. they could even kick out the horrid single player campaign and replace it with pure battles against constructed decks where you earn more cards with each battle (abit like magic on xbox/steam)
You are the only one here who thinks orions has a bad reputation. This thread is the only thing the public sees, besides the games store rating which is 4.5 stars, making this look like an excellent game, which it is. If a newcomer comes to this thread, chances are they will see one of your 50 negative posts and be instantly turned off from buying the game. I know I would. Let's keep it positive in here and compile a bug/fix list somewhere and leave it at that. I know you are trying to get the message across to the dev but lambasting him on a public forum does nothing for the game success or community
so i am responsible for the update politics on orions1 and i did create the last patch to the product which was a slap in the face for all customers.. ok.. lets keep it fake positive and just forget everything that happened.. really? of course not.. so lets speak up.. to anyone who is on the fence about purchasing orions2... if you look for more of orions1 (that means single player campaign, fighting the ai in duels etc.) do NOT buy orions2.. because its more or less the same as what you already got, without the new flickering bug. if you are into competive multiplayer, and would like to enjoy a sometimes rough ride with your favorite (or soon to be) portable multiplayer card game THEN GO BUY IT, NOW! and if your someone who is neither and really waits for an update or two, be aware of the chicken&egg situations... if the dev don't earn enough money there is little chance for prolonged support.. thats basic economics.. so every sale may help turn the favor into the direction of the community.. without any guarantees of course. only time will show now someone makes a cool promotion banner for orions2 since chillingo can't be moved todo anything for the game..
How that equates to a "do not buy" is beyond me. It's better on every count and costs less than a cup of coffee. Good grief. Buy it in a heartbeat and you'll be thrilled you did, whether you ever play against another human being or not.
Im in too. WebMoney better but Paypal will be good enough too. Is it real to deliver money directly to developer ?
Perhaps, but I think it is clear that iMore is not ready to spring for freemium. That is going to involve more work for IAP and it might have been cumbersome or even impossible to lay onto the win platform they were porting. Hopefully, they can find a way around that for much improved updates with more cards, more challenges and constructed deck MP. Ill say it again....I feel very strongly that "rebalancing stuff" will absolutely destroy the game. I suppose I should just refer you to the same post I have referred you to before but then you'll probably make the same comment again and again, no matter how many times I post it, right? What this game needs right now is a big push from Chillingo and coverage on places such as TA. I would expect they're both forthcoming. When? Anyone's guess. The game has been out for what, only nine days? Sheesh.
My dream-list of features for Orions: - Fewer crashes - More (and crazier) achievements (Get a creature to 50 life, or 20 attack, something like that) - Async mode (for my life style and my line of work, I'd play O2 a lot more if it had async MP) Also: great game, NIK!
Yeah I was thinking about more achievements like those!!! I actually got 42 ATK and 199 (highest possible) LIFE playing against archmage (hard) before.
Some good ideas being put forward; O2 could definitely use a number of improvements and fixes. Asynchronous MP is definitely a great idea if you ask me. O2 has HUGE potential to become a classic if, and only if, existing problems are fixed. And as for additional content, well, if we get bug fixes and content updates, then I think I speak for us all when I say that O2 will become one of the all-time greatest games to grace the iOS platform. Even in its current release, O2 is a very good game in my book. Not perfect by any stretch, but still excellent.
I have to call you out here bc I very much remember you saying that you had a match that took you about 40 min. Also if you can't see the cards that have been cast. It's the dev's job to fix this. By making a "graveyard" or a more detailed action sheet where you can see the cards in detail as of reading their description. I've tried a few multiplayer matches and I keep getting disconnected. I had 1 or 2 good ones. Overall I like duel mode and works well with my busy schedule. After playing the game I still think asynchronous would be a welcome addition
That's LUDICROUS. Jeez, really? DESTROY the game? That's insane, Amn. Would reducing the cost of (the useless) Nymph to 2 destroy the game? Would adding a 1 pt cost to cast Manticore's ability destroy the game? Would lowering the cost of Megaworm by 2 destroy the game? Would removing the water drain of Hydra destroy the game? Orions is, on the whole, extremely well-designed. I think the dev can be trusted to tweak a few numbers here or there. In fact, it might even *gasp* make the game better!
Ooh! A graveyard is a terrific idea! In the meantime, there is, at least, the game log at the bottom of the screen. Being able to see what was on the field before would be a step in the right direction, anyway. Or heck: you could just have the game create a cheat sheet card list of whatever the opponent has. It would be more chess-like then (which, granted, is not to all tastes).
Again, what I said was "typically" matches do not last that long. For the occasional one that does, I think I'd be so deeply immersed into it that the last thing I would want to do is leave the game. While any improvement, such as async, would certainly be welcome, I just don't think it'll ever happen. Would I be happy to be wrong? Sure. Nothing to lose.
You misunderstand my point. As the days pass, the list of cards people seek to improve grows larger. Eventually, you are going to find someone who has a case for or against every card in the deck and if the developer pays heed to each and every call, you'll have a very boring game left. As well, please show me where I said the nerfing of a single card would destroy the game. But if you do it to one, then you wind up doing it to another then another, then another. Changing all four that you mentioned above would not kill the game but it would not stop there. And, as I have said before on several occasions, I am perfectly happy with the developer making changes as he sees fit. There were changes from the beta version and I am okay with all of them. However, the last thing I would want to see is a cave-in to every demand to fix this card, fix that card. Can you understand that? Meanwhile, you admit the game is well designed. That clearly says a lot about the present card set. [edit] Of the four you mentioned, Manticore's cost was increased from beta and Megaworm's was reduced.]
Fair enough. I'd love love LOVE! async. But I didn't get this game expecting it nas such I'm still having a blast apart from the afore mentioned bugs. One can certainly hope async is added later. To be honest though te graveyard idea might be a good idea in general. Can anyone explain what was going on here. I would summon a creature on the far left and in one turn it would get killed. There was a sorta wave animation in the beginning of every turn I think for a while. I think that might have been it but I'm not sure what the heck was going on. A creature with like 15 hp dying in one turn !!! What combo do you think was going on?
I honestly dont think asynchronous would work at all for this game. Say you are playing a game over a matter of a day or 2 with someone. Then you take a crap break and have 5 minutes to fit in a multiplayer game but to do so you have to cancel the game youve invested part of a day with/or even multiple days on. The only way it would work would be to have separate asynchronous games going on simultaneously with real time games and I just dont see that happening.
I wouldn't mind having a go at correcting the spelling and grammar on the cards. If someone would be kind enough to post instructions on how I should go about it, I would be grateful. I am completely ignorant when it comes to this sort of thing, so I need step-by-step instructions. Thanks. (I assume someone has already posted instructions on how to do this, but this thread is long and I can't be searching through every post!)
Nymph useless? One of my fav cards. Particularly against a Dispercer or Soul of Winds if I don't want / can't use other low-hit cards like Monk and the like ;-)
