no dont keep waiting, try again. when you find someone it goes from like phase 0, phase 1, phase 2, and then the game starts all in a matter of a few seconds. All your waiting time should be spent at the game center screen after hitting play now and finding players...
Man, matchmaking flat out sucks. The fanboys will tell us it's not that bad, but it is. I've been trying to play with my cousin for almost 10 minutes now, with no success. Sometimes the matchmaking never goes past "waiting", sometimes it says "connecting" above the other player's name, but nothing else happens. It just freezes up like that forever. Not to mention, often the game is unable to authenticate you into GameCenter. Somehow Orions 2 is the only game that has that type of trouble.
I won't tell you it's great, only how it works for me. So far, okay, but far from what I'd like it to be. Meanwhile, I haven't tried to connect in close to 24 hours so maybe there are some issues today that weren't there y/d. (actually spending a lot of time on Carcasonne, Tikal and Ticket To Ride)
i would like to see more time in multiplayer.. got a second game running and one minute is not very much at all if you look through your cards to even see what you've got.. also why can't i check my own hand in the other player round? the first few rounds (for an not advenced orions player who knows all cards in and out) is very cumbersome.. and had it more than once that i skipped a round not casting anything because i was reading.. btw my 2nd match was against the same guy like couple hours before.. this can't be a coincidence.. again my question can someone confirm you can play against player of other territories?
Dunno. There will be an update but when and what will be included are anyone's guess. Menneisyys has pushed hard for alternating draft and no doubt it is a great idea. However, I think priority will go to any obvious bug fixes like the dueling Blademaster loop. I'd be shocked if any cards were nerfed but Pavel has played a few duels online and if he's found something unbalanced, I'm sure he'll give it some thought. That's actually the easiest fixes for him, program wise.
Thank me for the extra time. The initial beta was only 45 second turns and I railed hard against that and finally prevailed. Actually, much more than that can make for a very draggy game. With both players averaging 45 seconds times 15 turns, you're already at 22 minutes. I've had duels go over 40 minutes. That's actually too long. You can't check your hand because it's not in the program. Don't forget, multi player was not even being considered until we here on TA pushed very hard for it. As is, the release was held back for months to get MP in the game. I don't know if you'll ever see that as it is a minor problem and in fact, it could be your turn again in less than 10 seconds. What's the point? Yes, it's hard when you first go online and have to quickly search through the cards. The best bet is to play a LOT of duels first against the AI. As well, go to Campaign mode, go to the first city, go to the card screen and go through every card of every element and study them until you have a better idea of their potential. You can definitely play against someone from another country.
izzy you should be using the invite function to play with someone you know. game center handles that so shouldnt be a problem unless their servers are goofed. Also remember to close out the game in the taskbar if you ever get the waiting for authentication note
Yes. [edit] Actually, I think there are a few more in the .inf files, but they're not operative. Am I right, Menne?
well but thats only true if you wait out for all moves.. i actualy don't see something wrong with a 40 minute duell.. that must be a tough back and forth battle.. but i assume it would be the same length if the timer was longer or shorter.. if you know what cards do you can do it obviously faster because you do not need to constantly reread the cards your completly wrong.. orions is a port and it had multiplayer code since day one it came to iOS.. it was up to the devs to support it or not.. but don't make it sound like they coded mp exclusivly into orions2.. which they did not.. all they did i used game center for peer to peer match making, which would need their own infrastructure 2 years ago with orions1.. winmo has mp, so the code is there (bluetooth, tcp/ip) and i don't beleive that mp was the reason it was held back for months. as for turns.. they could show a more obvious visualisation that its your turn anyway.. also some kind of visual or audio hint that your time runs out, or the the turn is over would be very helpfull.. probably not to you.. but i assume to all the newbies out there trying to cope with the game.. it would be actualy easy to have a few settings you can choose from , 45s 60s, 90s etc. i don't see the reason that it needs to be so unflexible. well the problem is you say it here.. the user out there who bought the game is lost on sea.. especialy since you can't even read the cards descriptions in the deck manager.. which is more than odd.. going in tho the campaign and then into the city and then into the card screen to read through them sounds very likely to be found.. i think the biggest problems , next to bugs and general outdated usability of gui & stuff.. is the more than steep learning curve.. thoose few lines of text and textboxes does not really help much to get into the game.. the game as it is is very hardcore and you need to be able to really love the core mechanic of the game to overlook the lack of execution in alot of areas.. and that maybe one of its biggest flaws since the appstore is all about an casual apporach.. making the game more accessiblity and easier to get into would help it getting a bigger audience alot (imho) but yeah that would be a complete redo of the game, not a straight port.. well we will see how a orions3 will look like ok if izzy and you say so.. then it must be dumb luck to play now 3 times in total over the course of 12 hours and all the time with the same guy (wratzki or so) edit: lol ok .. 4 times its the same guy "Watzki" just running a match right now.. this can't be a coincidence..
That's what I have been doing. The problem is that sometimes the matchmaking-with-friends process gets hungs up on "waiting", "connecting", or phase 0 (this being the more rare situation). And, like I mentioned before, Orions 2 for some reason doesn't allow my gamecenter to authenticate. I'm considering creating a new GameCenter account. I made the mistake of putting it up on my website and now I have 260 friends, making the list take forever (10+ seconds) to load when I'm trying to invite someone.
I don't know anything about the Windows version so I'll defer to you. But that was not the impression I had from the developer. However, for sure it was held back by implementing multiplayer. Exactly how long? I dunno.
What can I tell you. 40 minutes is long for me. Seems I'm 30 minutes into a match and then I have to pee. Well, there is the crossed swords. They're kind of hard to miss. Ok, re settings. You choose 45 and I choose 90, what will it be? That's why it's 60. Who needs the extra code? Is this really a big deal? Anyone who wades into a worldwide arena without knowing all the cards is going to drown. So what else is new?
the timer is about perfect at 60 seconds. If you dont have a good grasp for what the cards do, you havent spent enough time dueling the cpu. Thats the best way for newcomers to learn anyways. They shouldnt expect to just jump into a mp match and know every instance of every card. Its a strategy game which requires thinking a tad of preparation, but it is definitely the most polite learning curve of any strategy card game ive ever played in my life.
Lol its a mobile device.. Take it with you.. A proper chat function or a timeout would work wonders.. In starcraft you could easily pause and go do youre toilet business Its all about options Too narrow minded.. Of course the game would need a proper lobby and filter so you can sort out such settings before start.. Like any full fledged games does. And yeah it is.. I propagade even the ability to switch the timer off complety.. More choice is always good. Apparently you dont care about accessibility. Alot of people want to play for fun and dont want to learn the game hours before even trying to play a bit mp. There is a reason why they are ranked matches in mp games etc. You sit too comfortable in your hardcore tcg gamer seat.. Think less about you but more about the needs of fresh blood players.. How is the game going to attract the critical mass os sales that imoregames invest more time into it than only pushing it around like a (overcolored speaking) dead corpse (winmo codebase) and plunging new living tissue into it (iOS code) so it can walk( sell on the appstore) again.. If imoregames want orions to be really successfull which its not by faar looking at the charts then they should stop listening to the hardcore fans.. Because you feel orions is ok as it is.. A few tweaks here and there and it would be probably perfect for you.. But not for an wider audience which is needed to make big sales on the app store. Orions sits in a tiny niche where shadow era for example reached an huge audience.. Why is that? Surely not because the core mechanics of orions are bad.. Imho they are the best of all mobile tcg.. But core mechanics only is only of interest for hardcore fans. Orions need to be polished till it shines. I know you think it does but it looks like an ugly pixelated mess compare to imoregames other products.. Only the particle effects look still decent but thats about it.. Anything else is antique and exactly like it was 4 years ago when it came out.. Its not about dissing orions its about shaking up the dev to realize what unpolished diamond they have. But you cant expect players of 2011 to rush out to buy an several years old product. They wont because they dont make a real 2011 version of orions.. They just reheat the old coffee..may be good enough for us..but an adequate version, retina support, universal, proper multiplayer, easy learning curve, extensive depth.. Take the newbie by the hand and let the pro dive deep in.. If the devs dont try to embrace how thing are going on iOS and check out themseld why competitors are cleaning the floor with orions i can't help to wonder if there will be an future for the game at all.. The content of the winmo version is nearly all used up.. how could an orions look like.. If it cant be a new reheat of the same old frankenstein.. It need to feel fresh and tidy.. only nintendo can sell their old stuff at full retail price on the next platform and be successfull that way.. Orions has sooo much unused potential.. Ahh well *seufz*
Just used ice wall to great advantages, using its cast to score direct hits or use it to swap with elf for snipe and evade.
