Manticore and Ethereal are not OP, they cost what they're worth. Fairy and Giant Spider on the other hand do serious damage.
Um, no. An argument about semantics is not going to get us anywhere but logically, you fix overpowered by adjusting ability and fix underpriced by adjusting cost. To prove the point, if they are precisely identical, you should be able to fix every overpowered or underpriced situation in SE from here on by ALWAYS adjusting ability or ALWAYS adjusting cost. Of course, we know that will not occur. You will sometimes adjust ability, you will sometime adjust cost.
The opponent's having a Fairy makes a lot of cards useless under certain circumstances (no healing spells or abilities) - it's even more devastating than him having a Manticore.
Agree, but having no capacities or healing spells is (at least imo) a big mistake in the draft pickings.
Sure.... nevertheless, I prefer, for the time being, simple duels because I find them more exciting and without the chance of running into somebody not using the alternating picking scheme.
If one balances a game you need to take every other card into account.. You cant just raise price on an underpriced card.. One needs to check if thats even possible to not get a gap in your cards price range etc. As a conclusion i see it similar to kyle underpriced/overpowered is just the attribute das faults.. Fixing the faulty attribute is often not the best solution. ---- Can somebody tell me if he cant find any players online wih automatch.. A friend tries for 2 days now with no luck at all and is quite frustated about mp having no players. How do you guys set up matches?
Whenever I go to play in normal duel mode, I always find an opponent in seconds (or, at most, 1-2 minutes). Your friend needs to kill O2 from the task manager and restart it. BTW, do other GC-based MP games work?
All I really want is for the matchmaking process to nt be so finicky. It takes multiple resets of the game for me to authenticate into GC sometimes -- something that was NEVER necessary in any other game, ever.
... and, while normal duels are certainly unfair (I've had some MP games I've lost because I got trash cards), they also have a the "what if the opponent has this and this card" uncertainty factor, which makes the game more interesting.
Dunno... nevertheless, one should be glad there IS MP support, no matter how buggy it is... after all, Pavel didn't really want to include it, back in late 2010...
I am glad. Orions is the only game I play right now, and I only play online duels. Still, I'm a paying customer. I'm entitled to a functional product.
By the way, how exactly do you gain rank in Orions? Do you need a Crystal account? And I'm guessing playing against friends doesnt yield rank...?
Completely and totally agreed--this aspect of MP REALLY makes it interesting and fun. I like draft, but I like the volatile nature of normal MP much more right now. Yeah, bad card sets happen...but I'm also finding that when I'm not afforded a few of the "big guns" that I regularly like to use, I'm forced to improvise with other cards and learn on the fly how to make them effective. Hell, sometimes it even works, and it is a lot of fun. But yeah...every so often, I do get a card set that leaves me completely hamstrung. This is very, very rare, though.
so how come sometimes each player has a couple of the same cards? I thought each deck was unique to the player
so i ignored the past and bought he game.. but mp is somehow not working.. we are on the phone and both going into the game starting multiplayer.. gc screen comes up,, user is ready press play now.. the loading indicator starts spinning and thats it.. after quite some time the gc screen goes away and there is a orions screen "network game" .. showing a waiting for connection message.. and a cancel button.. nothing happens, kept it there for several minutes and then canceled.. tried that a few times over the day, but no luck.. i once found a match and played that.. but apprently something is completly broken with the multiplayer.. at least with automatch.. if you check the game center stats only 3 players have a score of 1 meaning 3 people played and won in total?! .. thats an very odd low number.. the hole gui for multiplayer feels weird.. the game is landscape, gc is shown portrait.. then there is this network game screen that apparently even gets shown if you cancel a connection try from the gc screen.. well it feels very weird.. we of course did not tried to restart the game after every connection tryout.. but did this again but to no luck.. so faar i can't even say i'm disspointed.. i actualy did not expect anything.. but what is shown is horrible.. you don't know if any players are online, there are no error/timeout messages of any kind showing you whats going one.. and in the one game i had i was dropped into the main menue the instant the game was over.. no option to replay a new match with the same opponent, no way to add the guy to your friends list etc.. to be honest mp feels like its in an early alpha stage.. technically functional.. but userfriendly.. by faar not.. i somehow doubt alot of people will retry a mp game in the current stage.. they try 1-2-3 times then probably don't care... to be honest i would rather have seen orions2 delayed a half year and all kings being worked out.. instead of this premature release.. yeah i know i repeat myself.. but i see the same stuff with orions1 repeating itself.. funny thing is i got more "RATE IT?" pop ups shwoing that mp games played ;D hehe i can only wish to see constant updates fixing problems in the game and making it something it should have been from the beginning.. but who wrote it that they are already working on their next game.. i can only hope thats not the end to their work on the title.. .. so any other tip to get mp working? and what does it mean i'm not ranked.. i am on the game center list..?
Air Draft - Fairy? Uh uh. In the two M:tG US Nationals I played in, the first round was Booster Draft. I've had a lot of experience with Draft, playing both with my own team and other buddies and in other tournaments as well. Maybe I'm not so good, but I had some decent success in the game and think I know how to value cards fairly well. Then again, maybe I'm not and maybe I'm wrong. There are just my views. For Air, I would almost always choose Manticore first. To his credit, Pavel realized the card was so strong its cost had to be raised to an 8 (from 7), but it is still a phenomenal creature. The ability to cast Memory Loss can single handedly turn a game around. And obviously, this makes Fairy into a one shot deal. My other favorites for Air are (in no particular order); Chain Lightning, Starfall, Lightning Bolt, Zeus, Wings of Wisdom & Fairy. Both Chain & Starfall provide excellent opportunity for mass removals and Starfall is just ridiculously cheap against a full board on the other side. Chain will off the Fairy immediately while Starfall has the potential to remove her. In the first half of the game, Zeus can be outstanding with ability to do 4 damage to weaker critters. Lightning Bolt's 7 direct damage has been the win several times for me already and the capability of knocking the opponent's biggest creature down a few notches is nice. It's hard to envision Wings of Wisdom ever being a first choice but I would definitely want it rather than see it go to my opponent. And yes, I would also include Fairy on this list, but definitely not as a first pick.
If you go into gamecenter and Orions2, there are 2 rankings Campaign score (which is what is displayed by default when you duel online, unless you didn't complete any campaign) Network score which I believe is how many wins you've had so far. So losing does NOT matter in this game, so people you don't need to quit when you are losing.
1. We can only be happy the iMG folks have released Orions2 at all. Orions1 didn't sell particularly well; this is why Pavel didn't want to spend much time / energy on this sequel and we had to push him very hard to implement e.g. multiplayer. Without MP, this game would be useless - or, at least only as useful as O1. With MP, however bad it is (sometimes; as I've stated before, I can pretty much live with its problems as I've always loved the Orions franchise, which was without doubt the best game ever released for Windows Mobile), it's orders of magnitude more engaging. 2. what you described is pretty normal with GC - except for the need for killing the task upon a connection attempt that didn't succeed.
