Played so much today my girlfriend just came suddenly and closed the app on me while I was dueling online. And in some distant forum I was surely denounced as a rage-quitter
"Cooldown" time for Fairy? After a bunch of MP games, I too think the Fairy is vastly overpowered. What about, in addition / instead of, adding a certain "cooldown time" for Fairy, as is the case with Tython? That is, it couldn't cast immediately after bringing her in - after only one round, exactly as Tython. This way, the opponent would have time to try to kill / deactivate her.
I'm well aware of how a TCG works, having played in one M:tG PT event and two US Nationals. Let me repeat the thesis; there is nothing wrong with modestly under priced or over powered cards because part of the fun of the game is figuring out which are best and in any event, the best are not always the best cards to play given the wrong type of game situation. My impression, right or wrong, is that you caved in to demands about Eladwen and a few other cards while keeping them the same might not have been an issue if addressed by the subsequent release of new cards. Please do not misunderstand ME. I am not claiming you made a fatal error or anything like that, I just would have preferred you deal with the issue in another manner. Re Giant Spider, it is undoubtedly underpriced/overpowered but when given all the parameters of what the card can do, if any adjustment is to be made, it should first be the least consequential, such as the +3 bonus to power for another Earth creature in play. Whatever. Changing casting costs for cards is a MAJOR decision and can have a far reaching aspect. There have already been changes to the set, for instance Manticore, whose basic casting cost rose from 7 to 8. Again, perfect balance will result in a far more dissatisfying arena than one in which the trick is to find what works best in any specific situation. My 2 cents. My own game, which should be published on IOS this fall has two identical card sets but the player and opponent each have different special abilities and the territory they are fighting over changes value as the game progresses, which creates the imbalances required to make the contest interesting. An early prototype was in perfect balance and as a result, did not work well. Some measure of balance is necessary otherwise chaos rules but without imbalances, the odds favor the game will grow stale and stagnant .
Wait what's with Tython? Personally I don't like playing that card as it dies so fast..are there some strategies I don't know about involving him?
Disagree. She is not overpowered, she is underpriced. There is a huge difference. I think it is way too soon to change her anyway. If she was always the first choice for Air in Draft, then perhaps, but I can't see her as being that popular. She is also the offset to some of the more powerful combos like Blood Ritual/Elemental/Blood Ritual. If you lose the best methods of dealing with something like that, then the game becomes even more lopsided. At present, how many ways are even available to deal with that combo? Not many. I'm okay with seeing VERY MINOR adjustments only. For the Fairy, I don't think any adjustments are warranted at this time.
Me neither. Prefer my Ocean Lords and Leviathons for my water beef instead. Water troll is great too.
It's an excellent critter to heal your other critters. This ability has a "cooldown" time and can't be cast right after summoning Tython to the board.
In a human vs. human party, the opponent of a (decent) player with a Fairy is almost certainly doomed, no matter how decent he/she is... This isn't the case in matches against the AI as the AI very rarely (if ever) uses Fairy.
Duuuude! Most people agree that overpowered = underpriced. There is no difference. The difference is in how you choose to fix it. You can nerf the ability so that it is no longer overpowered, or increase the price so that it is no longer underpriced. But you can't talk about your perceived ideal solution when you talk about the existing card, because you are not the dev and we can't read your mind about how you think it should be fixed. SO, saying that a card is overpowered or a card is underpriced is the same thing, from different points of view.
Amn after thinking about it for awhile I don't think it's good to have overpowered and underpowered cards to make the game interesting, just cheap cards and expensive cards so there is still strategy and a different uses for each card
eh. I think Rejuvination is more OP then Fairy. Completely counters any sort of burn deck and in random mode you can't be certain if the opponent has it or not, if so it can completely ruin a duel.
Disagree. Like I said, if that were the case, the Fairy would overwhelmingly be the first pick for Air in Draft. There's at least five cards I personally would prefer for Air. What you're saying in essence is that in a match between two equal (more or less) players, the player with the Fairy is almost always going to win. No way. If anything, she should logically be a swing card against much weaker players. She only has 7 health. In most cases, she's around for only two casts. And she is THE single most efficient reason to prevent abusive combos. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it, even if I lose to her.
i would prolly pick fairy first in a draft. Also, having the elemental buffs cheap enough to be played during the first move can be pretty lopsided from the start
Ditto. At 8 cost? Not really... It's a shame though, i used Manticore far more frequently in Orions 1. I just got duel master achievement on my 40th win It's a pitty the number of people playing campaign vastly surpasses the ones playing multiplayer though.
In my honest opinion, a fairy is dangerous if : You have creatures with dmg >= 10 You have no way to gain some life If one manages to (unfortunately) get those two points, yes, he is probably dead meat. But a fairy remains very weak, especially against lava spiders, giant turtle, assasin, archer, elemental summons, and direct damages such as firestorm, chain lightning, etc etc etc. And there are many many ways to recover health. refresh, healing wind, life drain, etc All this to say that there is always a way to manage fairies if you have well constructed / picked up your deck - in draft mode, let's say. So long, c'tan
