I've long been asking Pavel to implement match recording / logging capabilities - just like with Starcraft 2. At least recording would be easy - the framework (logging steps) is already there, only the position of the cards should be added (as e.g. a prefix to all recorded lines), and, preferably, the timestamp. The file could be stored in the Documents directory and accessed via iTunes' File Sharing on iOS 3.2+ for later upload to public Web sites. Then, it could be accessed by anyone else. Programmatically, it'd be VERY easy to implement (some 10-15 statements and an additional bool, UIFileSharingEnabled, in plist to allow for File Sharing). Based on this (even textual) file, it'd be comparatively easy even for a third party programmer to create a desktop / iOS app that replays these log files. No need for fancy animations - a simple arrow pointing from a capability caster to its target would suffice, all with static critter images already available as resources. I could quickly code such an app for both iOS and Mac OS X if Pavel does implement logging to a, later, accessible and distributable file. Just imagine how cool it'd be to be able to replay and see others' matches - as is in Starcraft 2!
Dunno - I've run into him at least five times (I've won in most? all? cases) - no disconnects, not even when he was losing.
Re disconnects/ragequits I'm not too sure about that. Seems every time I have a disconnect, and I have had too many to chalk it up to "very-very rare," it occurs only when there is finally no doubt about who the winner will be or when there is an obvious reversal in fortune, as just occurred against "Plank." He had two Diablos on board, one of which had already been given a gift of life by a Hermit (but one of those lives had already been snuffed by an Assassin) and I had the impression he was feeling kind of cocky. I had played very slowly and deliberately and definitely held a sizable mana advantage. I cut his Diablos down to low life with a Chain Lightning and I think he quickly realized I had sufficient mana to do it again on the next turn. And of course, poof, there goes the game. "Communication error." Right. Anyway, I wish the ragequits would stop. It's so frustrating. Juvenile, really. If I'm wrong and it was just a plain vanilla disconnect, then I apologize to Plank. PS Rasten, I had crap against you but that's okay, you had crap against me last night.
LMAO OOPS, hah, Striker, no matter how many times I do it, I just can't learn....Zeus' casting will NOT AFFECT A KOBOLD! Add: dammit, that starfall was supposed to be...something else.... Oh, yeah, if you Enslave my Moloch, I'm going to kill a kitten! Not that it'll matter, hah, I think this game is going your way.
Heya! Miss casted a serker was gonna finish you with Fire Storm/ball thing, kinda got cocky at end and blew the game away. oh well. gg.
Wow, maybe you should switch to decaf, psiboy. Is there really something horribly wrong with some good natured public banter about the matches we're having? Or, hast I offendeth thee so horribly? Such banter is fairly commonplace, especially in this thread. Current precedent indicates that most of us rather like hearing about the matches some of the other regulars are having, or have had. Great match, Striker--always fun playing against you.
It was just a suggestion. Doesn't seem like a good idea to fill up the thread with two people having a personal conversation. Most forums actually don't allow this and tell people to use PMs for this type of thing. I'm personally working on revamping the text for this game and hoping to find some community interest and getting it implemented into the game. So, it's just an inconvenience to have to have personal conversation distracting form general game discussion.
The banter has become commonplace but it has the potential to overwhelm everything else. That's definitely not a good thing. Seriously, there is no reason why another thread can't be started for just that purpose.
I think a lot of strategies and tips can be learnt from personal messages like these - e.g., Kobold's invulnerability.
Yeah I really like dueling against you too. Sorry I was out of it earlier didn't mean to snap... or choke my game. Ha seriously I had that one on wraps. Alls good though . Bout to start another game if someone wants to join me first.
Uhhh, I think you're not understanding the concept of "under priced/over powered" and "over priced/under powered"... In O2 there are many cards that are under priced, that are too powerful for their low cost. Let's take Giant Spider for example. It's a fairly low cost creature that can negate the attack of your opponent's most powerful creature. Or Fairy (I think it is...) that's really low cost and can make the most powerful opponent directly attack the enemy's health. These are cards that either need their ability nerfed or the cost increased. It's called balance because there shouldn't be any powerful and low-cost cards like that, especially with the current "random deck" multiplayer. The costs, both summoning and ability casting, needs to match the relative power level for all cards. Once you know the overpowered cards in the game, it's really easy to win with a constructed deck, which makes even beating the campaign on hard with maximum map size pretty easy (I had the top campaign score last time I checked). The game needs balance or it will quickly turn off both casual and hardcore players. As for Shadow Era, we have a design team that includes a professional TCG designer with many years of experience as well as MTG and WoW TCG championships. With almost a million players and very active multiplayer scene, we have learned what it takes to build a balanced and diverse multiplayer game, and certainly aren't just going around nerfing everything for no reason.
Agreed, Amn--a thread dedicated to banter, or some similar venue for such things, and another venue for discussion regarding strategies, mechanics and technical things; good thoughts. I typed up a card list with the exact text of each card, and I'm in the process of writing up comments clarifying some of the more equivocal listings. Group collaboration on such things usually yields more productive results.
Oooh lemme have it! Maybe a google.doc to allow us to edit it or a wiki? I dunno. Hmm... Lava Bug just used his ability on Evil Sorcerer, guess magic doesn't include abilities? Then why include the text "unless from another evil sorcerer".
Sure dude--the file is too big to attach to a post in the forum, though. Edit: if anyone else might have use for the card list, I can email it to you. PM me whatever email address you want it sent to. If we get a bunch of people working on editing the wording, it may well do good for the community at large.
