Is it possible to get the thread updated to include the link to the Gameloft official forums? I hate reading through 20 pages of this thread each time I come back to TA. I know it brings traffic here, but this thread is not ideal for topic discussion. http://onlinegames-forum.gameloft.com/index.php?c=5#36
Not *entirely* true - some people can just be very happy and cheerful, and take a bit of extra pleasure in pissing others off. Take me, for example - I've been known to grief every now and then, just because that's what pvp is there for. I especially love seeing the horror as lower levels flee before me like roaches. Run! Scurry! You cannot outrun the damage-over-time effect that will consume your entire life bar! Bwuahahah! Of course, there's always a bigger fish. That's how the world works. When someone stomps me, I laugh it off and resolve to get even bigger : D (It's a lot of fun)
Does anyone know what a silver quest icon meas when ive not got the quest? I assume it means in too low a level, but not certain. Thanks in advance.
Too low level is possible, or possibly other requirements have not been met (such as prerequisite quests completed)
Which is precisely the point - some MMOs, due to their game design, wind up with higher populations on PvP servers, but by and large, PvE servers greatly outnumber the PvP ones. Why? Most players are not playing these games to compete directly with other players, period. I've been playing MMOs for over 7 years now, I have never chosen a PvP server because that's simply not what I'm playing this type of game for. Those games actively designed around PvP I don't even bother with. Outside of things like the holiday arenas in Guild Wars or limited enemy zone content in WoW, I just haven't bothered because if I want to pit combat skills against others there's this awesome thing called the mouse and keyboard with FPS games on my PC, or fighting games on my console. In my opinion, this genre is largely unsuited for such PvP content, particularly when it's done the way they have it here. At least other games lacking the option to avoid it altogether had the good sense to actually penalize higher level players that gank lower level players with dishonor and such - here it's framed in a "for funsies"way - no death penalty, no gains for winning - that isn't fun at all for all but a small slice of the player base, and the 'exploit' of weakening players so they will die to mobs and incur death penalties is pure asshattery. It's a pretty big crap stain on an otherwise polished launch that they didn't see fit to already have checks and balances in place for this sort of stuff because your peaceful, smiling "kill and be killed" attitude in games like this is not the norm.
Yeah It's pretty obvious that people are starting to reach the level 23 part and going through the pvp zone. It's the biggest let down for me so far with the game. Why is there a pvp zone in a required leveling up area? I tried to turn in a quest I completed 3 times last night and after I got ganked the third time, I just quit.
Plain stupidity on Gameloft's part. This is not Darkfall. Hopefully they will add PVP servers. I don't want anything to do with PVP and would like my PVE experience separate.
Also I died 3 times to 2 different guys that were 10+ levels above me with the ? as a level. They were just camping the PVP entrance rode and attacking people. Ruins the experience for me.
It's not stupidity, they mixed up the game to keep people on their toes. Just avoid those quests if you don't want to partake in the pvp zone.
I'm not there yet so don't know but based on what you are saying it is easy enough to avoid the PVP Zone and still get where you need to go and quest and move up in level without grinding? -Greg
Please tell me how to avoid that zone....At level 23 that area is the only place you can get quests. If I'm wrong then please tell me where else I can get quests at 23. But as far as I know, you can't avoid those quests unless you just grind without them to get to a level you can get quests in the next area.
Its grindy between 23-25 (no quests), and people are reporting at least one additional grindy stretch later as well. The first PVP zone there isnt much reason to hit before 25, but because the Swamp is poorly laid out and there arent enough quests, people are going to try and go look for quests in the PVP zone. There are plenty of quests 1-23 and that is already many hours in, so I wouldnt worry about getting your money's worth even if you hate grinding. Also, and this is big, there are none of the horrible quests where you need to kill 80 bears to get the 5 rare drops like there are in WOW. Here, if you need to collect a drop from a mob, you hardly ever have to kill more than a couple to get one. The lack of instances, fewer skills and less item variety are the main negatives. Also, the lack of truly difficult quests means there is zero reason for pure healing monks or pure tanks. Indeed, at level 27, I have yet to see a quest that absolutely required a group, although some can be hard solo. Any quest at all can be done with a random helper of any class.
I think you just replied to my topic on the official game forums and I think you had the PERFECT solution. Just make it like in WoW PVE servers where you can flag yourself for PVP or not. That way people can play how they want to and Gameloft doesn't have to completely change everything. I think it's the simplest solution for GL, and then they can always create PVP servers as well.
For those who are interested I thought it would be worth mentioning about the 3G data usage... I have been on the motorway for an hour now playing Order & Chaos via a 3G connection and it's using on average 1mb every 10 minutes. So if like me you're on a 500mb data allowance you can play for 90 hours, pretty amazing if you ask me. I'm using a MiFi dongle, but those who use the wifi hotspot feature on the iPhone will be able to play via an iPad or another persons wifi hotspot or vice versa.
It's not like the whole game is Pvp in fact it's kind of lame I had to wait til 23 for it but it not too big of a deal kinda nice to have it centralized. I am glad they did it like this but I wouldn't mind if they made the arcadain server I am on pvp and the others pvm. That's the thing tho if they changed the servers they would piss people off or have to do transfers. I have a feeling it's staying this way so dry those tears
