+1 Not to mention I sacrificed the equivalent of a day's lunch for the game..it's not even just the iOS though man. More like, how many portable gaming devices have done this? The entitlement that comes with iOS gamers is just beyond me.
You're missing the forest here regarding people's comments. No one is expecting that level of graphics or complexity of control, but the core mechanics and design? Yes, absolutely those should be more refined than those that were dated when WoW first launched. In an MMO launching in 2011, on iOS or not, there simply should not be one courier/kill quest after another complete with mobs of players spawn camping. That was bored and done with when EQ was a new game. Graphically and control wise, it's a very impressive achievement on a handheld, no doubt, nothing I've said is meant to say otherwise, but as an MMO, it's not very impressive. Decent, fun, has potential, etc., but not very ambitious at all in terms of game design, and that has nothing to do with the platform of choice. For the platform, for the price, all good stuff, but like a lot of Gameloft's unimaginative and shallow things, they push the envelope in terms of demonstrating just what you can accomplish on iOS, but they leave it up to someone else to do it right. Pocket Legends showed you could do it all. Gameloft has shown you can even do it looking pretty with a much more expansive world. Now we just need to find someone who will give us an original and well thought out game design and we can throw our PCs in the trash and retire to the bathroom permanently And, who knows, maybe this will grow to surprise all of us? If GL realizes they can make good money supporting it, well, they've never been afraid to chase a dollar
You see, with Gameloft, they usually take often-used concepts and put them on the iOS. I mean, GL's games are beautiful but not often are they original. I really hope they do make a transformation for the sake of OaCO. Maybe they'll turn the game into something absolutely amazing.
Honestly, it all depends on how much money they're making. Not often? The word you're looking for is "never." Their games don't have to be original. That's really not what most iOS gamers are looking for. If it was, Gameloft wouldn't have 4-5 star ratings on just about every single one of their games in the brutal place we call the AppStore. iOS gamers are looking for console-like experiences, and Gameloft delivers very well on that note. I'm fine with the way they're headed. They're only getting better and better at delivering quality "clones" of popular franchises.
I just hope they remain consistent with updates, which they should since this is a subscription-based game. This is their only game which gets more money than the initial purchase or even IAPs. It's a constant source of income which can only go up each month if they deliver. It'd be a stupid choice to leave it.
I agree, I think that because they'll continously be making money of this game, that they will continue to add to the game. Or at least I hope so.
I think I'll deliver on this one. Not only are they debuting subscriptions on the iOS, they're also using consumable iAPs for the first time in their game. These two sources of profit, especially the iAP which no doubt people will buy, plus the flat rate, should keep the game in a good place in the charts. It may eventually fall of the paid games chart on iTunes, but I think it's going to be quite a long while before it leaves the top 50 grossing chart for games. They definitely have the resources to expand the game in the ways they've suggested they will. They'll deliver.
Do you have 1 bar of Wifi or a weak signal? Try connecting to another wifi network, then you'll know it's on your end.
Yep. Hell, the game might even be on top for a really long time anyways. @Whoever got the wolf, you're lucky as hell. Anyways, vanity pets can't fight.
Really love this game but some of the camping to complete a quest can be frustrating as it comes down to who hits the icon first. If you miss out sometimes you are waiting five minutes to try again. I can't imagine what this is going to be like as more people buy the game. Also...I am not really finding any rare items or pets, I wonder what the percentage is to get something rare.
Pets aren't easy to get. And I don't think I've even seen an item of higher quality than green. Maybe someone will have a wowhead-like service for OAC? But yeah, the quest zones are insanely crowded now since the game was recently released. It took me about 20 minutes and about 15 bears in order to get a pelt for one quest. No one wants to share, either.
Go for the big enemies...the unique enemies. They drop the good stuff way more often. If they have a name and you can kill them....do it...or try to at least!
Aside from quest bosses Ive seen two special enemies so far (level 26... ive been playing a lot =P), the swamp giant which is a big stone creatrure and... king of some fish/man creatures on the northeast coast of the swamp zone which is 5x bigger. I couldnt kill the king thing, its got like 8 regular enemies that follow it. Would probably need at least 3 people to take that thing out. This game makes me wonder how its less than 600 mb and I have several games over 1 gb. This has a huge world and a huge variety of enemy models (impressive really). I guess because its all just flat relatively low resolution textures and not really high res + whatever shaders and such, but still.. fifa is 1.2 gb.
One thing to note is if you play on a server besides Arcadean, the camping isn't bad. Also, give the game a few weeks for many players to move on to other regions and the populations per zone will start balancing out. Everyone is new so everyone is hitting the early quests. Lastly, they are not all fetch or kill quests. Not far into the game you will start seeing escort quests, scripted event quests, dialogue triggered quest steps, repeatable quests, vendor-purchasing item quests, gathering quests, and situations where you must use an item in a special location or on certain mob(s) just to name a few. I was surprised myself in the variety of quest types. I was happy with just the courier and kill quests. Now if only Tear Coast server wold come back up properly so I could connect and play...
