Well said. If we can enjoy wow on pc, we will also enjoy Order & Chaos Online on iOS. We just need to look at the game in a new way.
Practically every major MMO released since 2004 is a WoW clone of sorts. If you casually walk into a room and see a person playing Warhammer Online, Runes of Magic, Allods, Rift, Aion and others, it's not hard to mistake it for WoW. In half these games even the dialog boxes that you accept quests with and other things look like they were pulled straight out of WoW. I'm pretty sure whenever Old Republic finally releases, it will be the same. There are only so many ways to do a 3D MMO set in a fantasy world with melee combat fighters, ranged fighters, mage type classes, healers and so on.
I'd take a good Action-RPG MMO any day over World of Warcraft. I just don't like the standard point-and-click-to-attack combat system. I mean there are skills, but I just find those combat mechanics boring. I'd like to see someone make a major action-RPG MMO that's worth playing. But then again, I haven't seen all of the MMOs out there, and there might be one out there.
If you want to try something with everything that you mentioned that is very different try Atlantica Online. You have all the typical classes, but it is turn based (timed) and you control 9 characters at once. Makes for really interesting gameplay. I really don't know why someone hasn't made a game like this for the iPod. I think Atlantica's concept would work great on the iOS platform.
The more I think about this, the more excited I am about this game. Say what you want about Gameloft (crap voice acting, same old 3D engine, rip offs etc..) but they've really set the bar on this platform regarding online gaming. Look at where we were a year in a half ago regarding online play. For FPS games, Eliminate was the hot thing, mainly ebcause it was one of the only options. We put up with Mafia Wars type fuel cell crap because it was one of the only viable options. Modern Combat had a descent online update, but it wasn't great. Fast forward to today. We now have MC2 and NOVA2 with at least 10 player multiplayer, along with console like XP systems. All of a sudden we have Battlefield Online and more EA online games coming most likely. Ngmoco's 2nd attempt at freemium FPS failed miserably even with the Star Wars licsense, mainly because people actually have better options. No matter how much you hate Gameloft, you can't deny the huge step forward they've made regarding online play on iOS. They are setting the bar. With all that said, I really hope like with FPS games, they is a major leap for MMO gaming. They've shown their ability to bring a console like online experience, so hopefully the same can be done with MMO's. I'm interested to see what sort of content we will expect along with pricing.
I too would like some new information about this game..Gameloft is staying very quiet about this..All we got since they're notice on Facebook was a Poll which has stayed the same for the past few weeks, a few more screen shots and that's it. I'm very anxious for this game.
It seems like by the time Gameloft teases about a game it's near completion, usually three months tops (but I could be wrong).
