The only thing I'm concerned about is the lack of support for their games once it's released. Wow is successful because of continued support not because it released as it currently is on the first day.
I'm looking forward to this, I used to be a huge Warcraft fan. If it's even decent I'll play it for a while.
Order & Chaos? Gameloft were never creative with their game titles. Hardly. You'd have to stay at home and keep your iPhone plugged in to go on long raids or quests and whatnot or else your battery would die in less than an hour. Kinda defeats the purpose of a portable MMO.
Universal from Gameloft? What's the world coming to... Anyways, I'm excited for it now, but let's see how it'll live up to the inevitable hype. I hope they don't try to overextend themselves and attempt to clone every aspect of wow. I'd be happy with a solid core game with multiplayer quests, and a few polished bells and whistles thrown in to keep it fun. We could end up with an amazing game, or we could end up with one of those GL games that a whole 3 people continue playing after the first week.
So if a large group of friends gather at one house and all plug their iphones/ipods into a wall socket, log in and play together, that's not portable? A person decides to plug his iphone into the car charger and play while on a very long road trip. That's not portable? (For arguments sake, we'll say some- one else is providing a mobile hotspot). While what you're saying makes sense, the examples I've given prove otherwise.
Universal...hmmm I'm sure the data is stored online anyways like any MMO. So, I guess it depends on if they are gonna try to make their earnings on game sales or subscriptions. I can see plenty of people paying 5-10 /month if it's good. Sure people will complain but plenty would gladly pay for a good mobile MMO. I stress good. I think the biggest thing will be rather ongoing support will happen or will they just release version 1.0 and let it rot. We have certainly seen lackluster support in the past but, recently descent follow up with their customer base is being taken more seriously, I think. I noticed after all the complaints about in app upgrades, they now offer full versions. I'm sure it will sell , Wow players seem to (at least vocally) hate wow and are always looking for something better to try
I highly doubt that it would be a monthly fee. Gameloft isn't stupid. I could see the app for 6.99 US the normal price but the IAP would be like money or weapons maybe even different zones.
still very ambitious even for a clone. hope they can pull in off though, excited for this one. true, they should support this after release like other MMORPG's out there, like pocket legends. Their support keeps the game alive and their players happy.
Not really. Since this is an MMO the app will likely be cross platform and free. It's much easier for them to keep one app up to date than two. Remember, the reason they don't do universals for their other games is so they can charge separately for them. With an MMO, the stuff you will be paying for is either a subscription or in app purchases (what we call "micro-transactions" in the MMO world). Since there will be no charge for the app, there's no good reason not to make it universal. (If you've ever played Pocket Legends, then you'll have a better understanding of it all). And for those who doubt the app itself will be free, just remember that MMO's that run on micro-transactions usually run on this model. They get you hooked for free then make you pay to keep the addiction going, lol.
mc2 was filled with hackers last time i checked. That doesn't bode well for this game unless its subscription based or something that prevents ppl from spamming free accounts.
