Will check that out as well. Any word on an estimated release date? 2-3months from now? 3rd quarter? Holiday release? Early 2012?
We have no idea when it'll come out. Speculation says it'll be out in the next few months based on Gameloft's past games. But again, we've been given no concrete word yet so we'll see!
Pocket Gamer has been suspecting an freemium MMO since early last year from Gameloft. http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Gameloft+news/news.asp?c=25697 Could this be talking about Order and Chaos, and maybe even a hint towards the pricing details?
I have been dying for a good MMO on iOS for a while. I played Parallel Kingdoms (great concept but the bugs made it unplayable), Outer Empires (a very deep strategy game but it was too time consuming for me), Pocket Legends (I still enjoy this but its not a deep enough experience for long term play IMO) and Astro Empires, a mostly text based browser MMO strategy game (definitely too time consuming). Gameloft has some great iOS titles I enjoy such as Modern Combat II and Star Battalion. Yes they are focused on copying popular console and PC titles but I'm glad I have the opportunity to play those kinds of games on iOS since many of the bigger game developers are not bringing their titles to the platform. I hope they pull off this game well and give continued support. I'm up for joining the Touch Arcade Guild in whichever Faction it goes for (hopefully Chaos). I tend to prefer being a rogue or marksmen but I'll have to see what the classes are before choosing.
Gameloft just said on their youtube video that all devices can play on the same server and we will not be limited to play with the people who have the same device. I guess that was obvious for many, but still good to know.
Haha nice I'm up for the guild, but I'd like to be the minority faction. I'm worried that this will be a one time fee mmo. And just like most of gamelofts other games they just make the next one every year(in this case an expansion every year. I want them to charge a monthly service so they will have incentive to constantly update this game, and keep the community happy.
you know, i just thought of something maybe they could make the charge every year once or something that way, they could just charge when they update it, and it would almost be like a new game, just with you being able to keep your character i don't know, now that i think about it, it sounds kinda dumb...
I get what your saying. But I don't think the 6.99 a year is enough for them to continually support it. After all MMOs need alot more attention then all the other games game loft releases. They honestly just need to make a cheap monthly charge. People don't like it they don't have to pay it. But the vast majority of the people that are gonna be playing are gonna be people that are somewhat used to the idea of a monthly charge. But that's really the only way I can see this becoming a successful constantly updated mmo. If they don't get money from it then what's the point of adding content and continually supporting it? I mean they already got your money and their not getting any more from ya. Heck I mean they could do a trial version where you can get to level 20. And then stop you after that. And if you think it's worth it then you pay the monthly charge, and if not then you leave it right their. I'm pretty sure WoW does something similar with it's trial right? I mean it seems like a WoW clone so why not?
its a good idea and i admit the subscription is definitely the best way for gameloft im just being selfish cause i can't afford to pay for a subscription that idea is good, but i doubt it'll be quite to level 20, cause thats kinda high
Well think about, they could do the world of Warcraft 14 day Lv20 max trial. And I mean it would be enough to get most people hooked. But not too much. I don't think it would be smart for them to make a lame trial where you can barely do anything because their goal should be to get you stuck on the game first. So I would think level 20 is good if the max is 60. Which brings me to another thought. I'm really curious how hard it's gonna be to get to level 60... Any thoughts?
Then again that's assuming that this game will have enough content to keep people hooked that long after level 20. Maybe it should only be a week long trial or something. Either way they need to have some way to try it for free and get a decent idea of the game before you pay a subscription if it ends up being a subscription model.
