So they all have to be "most successful and lucrative and well maintained of all time? Of all time!?" LOL! Sure they're not the most successful and lucrative and well maintained of all time! Of all time! But they're all extremely popular and extremely lucrative. As for maintenance, they're all on a satisfactory level. But please, continue... Sorry for pulling the reductio ad absurdum.
Well you can't really include shooters into the comparison, I don't know one shooter that is pay to play. As far as Runescape and Maplestory, other than the genre they are hardly comparable to games like WoW and Rift, and by the screenshots even this game. I'm just saying I would rather see the developer take whatever route makes them the most money therefore encouraging them to maintain and improve the game as often as possible, instead of just encouraging them to create more items they can sell to players. My only real experience with MMORPGs that are not pay to play is Pocket legends, so my view is rather narrow. But in that case I found it excruciatingly slow to progress without continually shilling out money on in app purchases, and really ruined the game for me. Gameloft has to walk the fine line on what a fair monthly fee would be in the traditionally cheap ass market that is mobile gaming. I think something like $5 a month would be reasonable, and make it an in app purchase with a pop up reminder prompting the player when time expires. That's just my thoughts on it though. We'll have to wait and see what gameloft decides to do.
Fair point my chap! Gameloft please release this soon... We can't hold our breaths forever (most of us need oxygen to live)!
Will Order & Chaos Online better than World of Warcraft? Of course it is, cause Wow becomes boring after 200 years...LOL
Won't see me paying $5 a month for a mobile MMO. I just don't feel I'll get my money's worth. Here's what I mean by *ME* *MY* money's worth. A stable gameplay (without bugs). Constant bug fixes. Constant month to month content updates. What I wouldn't mind seeing as far as pricing goes is. A) 1 large sum for the app (You pay that one fee your set for say 1 year of new content updates). B) Low priced subscription fee ($0.99 a month). C) Free app with in app purchases (Also has use of tapjoy where you can gain "premium coins" to purchase said content with).
Five dollars is way to much i think. Three would be the most at this point, maybe in the future when more content and players are hooked but five is way to much, Its been a while since i stopped playing wow but i remember it being like 7 a month? This will have to be less to draw in those players who aren't sher.
I think before they would charge 5 a month they would just go the freemium way because they could make more money that way. Personally I would like to see them go freemium or maybe $1 a month because I pay enough for my computer mmo's and won't pay a fortune for this.
For PC games. Let's be realistic people, how many of your friends don't give a crap about iOs games on iPhone/iPod because their excuse is: "The screen is too small. Why would I game on there for length when I can play on my PC/Xbox/PS3 with a much larger screen?" ALL of my friends give that excuse. That said, I highly doubt a monthly subscription will be added to the title. While I think this is a great and very healthy debate for a change, realistically, why would you pay any subscription fee per month when you can just go play wow on your pc, not straining your eyes for length of time? Gameloft isn't stupid, we know this and there's not enough iPad people to argue about the small screen issue either, so priority to them will be iPhone/iPod customers on a universal release. My opinion, this game is going to be released like all their others at $6.99. If the game is good and they can maintain it, the money will pour in with new customers. With a subscription fee being new territory for the iOs platform, I doubt Gameloft is willing to scare away most iOs customers with that. Just my $.02.
I think it comes down to how well and developed the game is. Five dollars a month would mean they would have to have done an amazing job and be consistent with the entire game. If not then i think it should be around three dollars.
i agree. if its 5 bucks a month it better have alot of content especially at endgame and pvp. if so i wouldnt mind paying 5 bucks a month. thinking bout it 5 a month is nothing but people dont wanna waste their money so here is hoping its all its being hyped up to be.
Im proud to say i have a gta clone as a starcraft clone on my phone so im sure either way they do it ppl will buy it. Having a WoW clone will blow people away
IMO, I won't buy this game if it's subscription based, but I will if a one time pay thing. In the same way I was put off all the rpg's with in-app purchess, I will be put off this if it's subrciption.
I completely agree. I dislike the idea of paying for something more than once. Don't get me wrong, if Gameloft charged a flat rate of $20, I'd still buy it, but if they charged $2 a month I wouldn't. Excellent contribution to this thread! Gameloft must balance whether they want to charge a flat rate or a subscription and frankly, there's a lot of problems with the subscription method. Honestly I'd say there's a 40:60 chance it'll be subscription.
I think there's about a 10% chance of there being a subscription. I just don't think many people would be willing to pay a subscription for an iOS game (I know I wouldn't).
