Complaints about being short have nothing to do with the cost. I'd be annoyed with a game that's too short, even if it's free. It's not worth my time to download and learn and play it if it's going to end so quickly.
Of course, I'd like the game to be longer too. But guess it's just a matter of what people consider ending "so quickly". I don't feel cheated regardless of cost or otherwise. I won't complain about a couple of hours of entertainment if I enjoyed it. Everyone's got a right to their own opinion though.
Considering that the game can be learned in seconds, not sure I understand this complaint. If Orc was as complex as, say, FFT I would see your point: it makes sense for a game like that to last for 50+ hours, since learning it can take a while (including reading an extensive manual). As it is, I've already put in a couple hours into Orc, a time I've enjoyed thoroughly. The game has been designed to get you into the action immediately, and the pace is brisk and entertaining. Would I love it if it were longer? Sure, but only if the length was drawn out with real content and not grinding. New game + would be cool, too. But as is, the game is very much worth the price and time to download.
Hi guys.. Regarding the length of the game... I find it hard to beat the game in under 5 hours and I helped make it heh. It's our intention to be able to keep adding levels and additional content. Right now we're adding d-pad and auto-run support so that all those who couldn't stand the touch controls can still enjoy the game. We thought 5-6 hours for a $2.99 was a pretty good deal versus some of the really popular $60 console games that take only 4-5 hours We aim to please though so we'll see what we can do. -andrew
I paid five dollars for Yesterday and enjoyed it greatly. I make no allusions to the fact that the game was quite short. It comes down to the quality versus quantity for your money. Honestly if we have to think this much about how we spend less money than what it cost for a burger we probably shouldn't buy the game anyway. EDIT: good to hear, Andrew. Keep up the good work!
I think some people don't realise how much the time flies when they're having fun, hence the 2-3 hour claims.
Again, it's nothing to do with the money. The issue would be exactly the same if the game were free. It's not a question of, "Is it worth the money," but, "Do I want to play this at all?" I appreciate the different responses though. I think some people are just more interested in playing lots of shorter games, while other people prefer to play only a few games that have more staying power.
Hah, nice try. I'm a graduate research scientist. Again, highlighting how truly short the game is I barely had to put any time into it.
It is. As a developer, I think you have to take some of these comments for what they're worth (little or nothing). Five hours of solid gameplay for $3 is a pretty fair deal. I know some AAA console games that run about that long, and they generally cost about $60. With the gap in production values quickly closing, I'd say some people's perception of value is severely skewed. Funny enough, some of these some folks who complain about getting five hours of play for $3 are likely the same folks who don't mind getting bent over and gouged by Capcom with lame ports of old games that play better on other systems.
Who are you talking about? I think there are zero people who have complained about getting five hours of play for $3.
does this game have achievements? and if so, what are the caliber of points? mostly under 10 each or 20s-50s-100s? I wanna know so I can buy this and be rewarded for pwning it
I think this is worth $2.99 easily.... anything that entertains you for 5 hours has to be worth that at least!
Psac42: I usually play on iPhone, and in the bottom right corner, I take my right thumb and make a small circle going clockwise. Try it at different speeds until you get it Going super-fast, it sometimes doesn't register. Same goes for zig-zag when you get it. Hope this helps! Ryan
Reading all these comments, I guess there's a misunderstanding here. By "short", it doesn't mean we're complaining. It's not the length (I played 2 hours the first day and 1 hour each day after that, total about 5 hours or so) which is fair enough for the quality and price. So this is more to the replay value. Fans would want something extra after beating the game. For example, Mage Gauntlet is a pretty "short" game (also priced more than $0.99) but with Master Mode players can go another round with increased difficulty and another alternate ending. It's great Andrew mentioned Orc: Vengeance will have additional contents after this. That's what we're looking for. Sorry if I sounded harsh earlier.
some people need to understand that for now 5 hours for the main campaign are great for those 3$ just look for example at homefront for consoles and pc 40-60 at release and the duration was the same that the game doesn't have much replay value well that depens on the one who is playing i finish the game and i'm still playing even so the chapters are the same and we already got news that more chapters are coming so i dont see whats is the big problem yet, i prefer this instead of grinding all day long for have any sense of replayability Andrew@BigCave or Ryan@BigCave is you guys could also add like 4 bottons for skills and others for potions that would be nice too instead of just the dpad alone Looking forward to those new levels or maybe another project done by you guys as long as it have the same quality of orc
So many people, particularly devs here, who don't understand the comments about length. No one has said the game is bad, nor has any issue with length appeared alongside a complaint about price. Orc is a great game, but the fact of the matter is that it's short relative to comparable games for iOS; that's all there is to the comment. Please take it for what it is and Nothing more.
It really depends how you define "comparable." You could say, for example, that Orc is short compared to DH2. I would say that compared to Orc, DH2 has all the polish of a turnip, not to mention spammy, unchallenging combat, a silly story and no sense of "epicness" or pacing whatsoever (I say that as someone who enjoyed DH2). I much rather play an hour of Orc than 10 hours of DH2 (I did enjoy it, really!). Personally, I find Orc to be a much different game from, say, Aralon. Heroes Call is closer, but the freemium structure kind of ruins any sense of pacing or build. I can't think of another original iOS game with Orcs level of polish and non-repetive content that clocks in longer than 5 hours. But perhaps I'm forgetting one.
