Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. People complaining about games having millions of points is not really valid here, because no one suggested doing that. We're talking about rewarding the player for better play.
I'm with LordGek. Would anyone suffer if getting two hits at once gave you x2? It'd hardly skyrocket your score, but it'd still encourage you to learn useful and skillfull shots and playing techniques. Otherwise you might as well just do two single hits and to hell with impressive aiming.
Nope. All balls start off tiny, take three bumps to kill, and are all worth 1 point. Your fired little ball, once done bouncing around, will expand until it hits an edge of the screen or another ball.
A fantastic 'one more go' game; I can't recommend it enough. I don't think anything should be changed or added - It has all the more appeal for not having millions of multipliers and fancy scoring systems. As stated earlier, I get more than enough satisfaction when the screen says wee wah wee wah (it was something like that anyway!) when you hit 5. Brilliant stuff. Gravitational mode is 'where it's at'. Just popped 74. Gotta get that #1 spot now!
I don't see how it has more appeal this way. Adding a 2x multiplier is still the extreme basics of game scoring, it's not as though you unlock a 50 foot tall, fire-breathing mech that destroys everything on screen and grants wishes. You could add multipliers and the game would remain just as basic as it is now, but with an actual reason to play well.
Scoring is perfect, beacuse when you see those low scores after all that work; you feel pathetic and you want to better yourself ala Rocky. This is the HOOK of the game. I did 24 on my first try in gravity mode, and havent been able to top that lol.
Sounds like some people just have issues Numbers don't affect how I enjoy games that much. You can put 1 or 100,000,000 at the top and it's still an awesome game and I'd still be trying to improve my score.
I'm sorry, but "feeling pathetic" from getting a score of zero is not a "hook". Go to any publisher and tell them that's the hook for your game and they will laugh you out of the office. I don't really care what the developers do about scoring, it's up to them obviously, but it's fascinating to me that people are arguing this point so adamantly.
I agree! I love the scoring. Highest is 33 in gravity mode so far I hate games where scores are in the millions, and getting one point doesn't really mean anything. I am sort of on the fence about the combos that some people are suggesting. I like knowing that when my score is 33 it's because I popped exactly 33 orbs. Maybe an achievement system would work? or a separate scoreboard for highest combos so people are still competitive and have a reason to try to get super high ones.
Well then 1 million points means something instead. It's not that hard to reconfigure the worth of a number in your brain. Play this game and 3 points is a lot, play this game and 3 million points is a lot. It shouldn't even be an issue, the whole thing is purely a cosmetic display of digits.
I think what we mean by not liking scores in the million is that, if combos are rewarded by extra points like some people are suggesting, and the numbers were calculated by millions instead of single digits, you would see scores like 5,336,998 instead of the simple 74 or 78. I find the more simplistic scoring system perfect and gives the game charm. I am obviously not suggesting that adding combos would make scores go into the millions, I am just explaining what I mean by liking the low scoring system over scoring systems in games like Bejeweled.
How about if score was seperate to # of orbs popped? You could have some multipliers, still keeping the numbers low but with an incentive to play more tactfully, and also display how many orbs it took to destroy to get that number. Best of both worlds I reckon, then you'd have two record holders, one with the highests score and one with the highest number of orbs destroyed. ...unless the same guy did both, which is possible.
Not really, the reward for combos is clearing the playing area, making subsequent shots easier. You could just do two or three shots instead of one, but then you'd fill the space with two or three orbs instead of one. That's the incentive for good shots, and it is enough for me in its present form.
Best game I've played on my iPhone. Please don't change anything to make it more complicated. My only request would be for more music.
This is one of the best handheld games I've ever experienced!!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY well worth the $3!!
Yeah, then you'd have three more points to get rather than one. It all equals out in the end. It may be perfect for you but I'm thinking a nice "x2!" graphic would help the game appeal more to the average player. Some people don't want minimalism.
This. Agree completely. Each ball needs to be hit three times, if you are not trying to strategically hit orbs to get combos, your screen will soon be too full to hit anything without going below the line.
