The App Store never showed me an update for this either, so just a quick thanks to TA and those of you who mentioned it here. Given how good Orbital was before, I never imagined it could be improved as it has been. Now if only I could improve at playing it
I was waiting on this game forever. I wanted to get it but it was always... I will get it later. I finally got it and I must say I has blown me away. Friggin great game. Anyone on the fence get it, plain and simple...
Loving the new Supernova mode. Wish it had gravity, but i'll def take it as I needed something new...
Update worked fine for me It took several days for the update to be offered to me, but in the end it was, and it worked normally. I didn’t have to re-“purchase” or anything. (US store.) I think it was just a side effect of the planned Christmas outage at the app store. I like the new mode!
Congrats to Keno, if you're out there. You hit the jackspot in Supernova twice within a few hours! Both on New Years Day, no less! ~1200 score listed in Supernova at 8:30EST, and then I check again after playing Orbital about an hour, and 1373! Good work. Did you choose the name "Keno" before playing those games, or does Orbital allow one to change the player name at any time? Happy New Year to you and the rest of the idevice gaming world.
Without a doubt the best game i've played in the last year, the new mode just makes it even better.. Still trying to better my 44 on pure mind.
I was so close on beating my records yesterday. Scored 66 on gravity and 25 on pure! I've already played for around 6 hours since the update
I think I have played this game about every day since I got it. One of the best pick it up apps out there.
I've been hooked to the Gimme Friction game by Wouter Visser, and when Orbital came out on the iPhone, and a friend of mine pointed it out, I had to have it. We've been quite serious with competing eachother on it since late last summer, so I was really happy that just a little while ago, I completed the full trilogy: #1 of my friends with Gravity: 213 (#3 in the world) #1 of my friends with Pure: 44 (#50 in the world) #1 of my friends with Supernova: 479 (#125 in the world) Problem was: my Gravity score (which completed the trio) didn't get published on Facebook because my Wifi wasn't active. Apparently, while playing, the Wifi connection may time out, and since I didn't have GPRS turned on (original iPhone), I had no internet connection. Is there any way to force an update? I couldn't find anything - I reconnected with Facebook, but that didn't help. I never activate the 'publish without asking' option, because that's really annoying to all my friends if they see updates all the time, but in this case I didn't even get a publish-request. Which is sad, because I really wanted to rub my friend's face in this one.
213 is a sick Gravity score. I can't top my 142. But I'm now immersed in Supernova. Just got 817 to crack the top 10 and #1 in 24 hours. I will break a thousand!!
Well, obviously a score like that takes a bunch of luck as well as lots of practice. I wouldn't be the one to say that I shouldn't get a life and stop playing this game so much. About that Gravity score: I think I was locked at my score of 132 for two months or so, while my friend had a score of 145. I obviously needed to beat that. Then I finally get going, and start beating my own score, and obviously mess up, without any cause. New highscore: 136. How frustrating is that. But an hour later I scored 213. Just keep on going! Thing is, I only saw after that that the highscore above me was 215. But hell, #2 or #3, it's both cool. Now my focus is on Supernova again. I agree, RM imagery, that that score can be beaten easily. I mean, just look at the world ranking I have, my Supernova score is obviously the worst of the three, and that gametype only exists for three weeks, so after a few months my score will be much worse compared to the leaderboard, if I don't beat it. I find that it's good to stick to a game mode for a while, that improves your chances of scoring high. Everytime I switch, I need to get used to the format again.
This is such an addictive game, can't remember a game i have played so much. Got 55 on pure last night..26th... aiming to get a top ten now.
to those who have high supernova scores: what's your strategy? i can get 100+ in gravity (i don't play pure) but i can't figure out how to get a high score on supernova. also, since i mostly play gravity, i'm not used to the orbs bouncing straight. Also, to the developers (if you're reading): it'd be really, really awesome if there was an update that brought the ability to save/watch replays to orbital. i've had some really awesome games and every time i think "if i only i could watch this again..."
My strategy for supernova: start off with bouncing orbs against the left or right walls to get them to end up exactly in the top left and right corners. The orbs will be tiny there. Get a good number in there, and try to get their count down a little, to 2 or 3. Inevitably you will get orbs that won't end up so nicely, which will be bigger, but that's no problem. Once you start blowing them up, with a little luck all the other built-up orbs will blow at the same time. That's obviously the biggest trick: getting as many to blow in one go. That will get your score up exponentially. If you blow up 3 orbs seperately that will get you 3 points, but if you get them to go all at once, that's 9 points. My biggest combination shot was 16 orbs, that's 256 points, and that's a very good start to get a high score. Also note that the cool thing about the chain reaction in this gameplay allows you to really clean up the playing field. This is why people get such enormous scores: after a while you may have cleared the entire field, and it is as if you started from scratch, but you already have a load of points. This could theoretically go on forever (obviously that never happens ;-)). Staying alive is therefore key.
