It seems to me to store previous pages well so it doesn't keep reloading pages when going back to them.

really not impressed with opera mini. lower page zoom levels look terrible, and the pinch zooming doesn't work nearly as well as safari.

it is a fair bit faster, but i won't be sacrificing usability for speed.

alright this took me a while to figure out but this doesnt have pinch-to-zoom.. instead its double tap to zoom in and out.
so one level of zoom, thats dissapointing.. but everything else is great

i like how it snaps to text when scrolling too

I'm very dissapointed with Opera Mini.
So back to Atomic Web Browser again.

I like it, despite not being as secure as Safari.

I don't know why that's such a big deal. The only zoom levels I use in Safari are right out, or right in. So, not much of a loss, really.

Actually THAT is the reason why it was approved. It is not a real web browser that interprets HTML. It is more like a remote control of the Opera server which is actual rendering the requested page and sending the result in its own format to the iPhone app. So it is not doing the same as Mobile Safari (interpreting and rendering of HTML). BTW there are other examples like the App Wapzilla, which interprets and renders WML. This one was also approved.

So this approval does not change anything. Mobile Firefox (and Opera Mobile) will still be rejected.

Concerning Opera Mini: Yes, it is fast. But the handling is awful. And Atomic Web Browser offers so much more functionality.

    Opera sucks.

The rendering is awful, it shows the wrong fonts.

    It's hard to zoom

Tabbing and password are available anyway in Safari.

In short it's way better to stick to Safari.

    Wow, I'm so disappointed!
    Waited long, expected a lot!
But this browser is even a lot worse than many other independent apps.
The rendering is bad, many sites are just shown wrong, the zoom is a joke (full site or near), scrolling isn't as slick as used, it shows mobile version of websites even if toggled off, it has got fullscreen mode but with huge buttons still on screen.

Ok, some good points: it's fast and the tabs are fast and nice

But surfing just doesn't feel right with this app. Way too clunky.
Hope, the devs put a little more work and thought into this.

So far, Safari still offers the best experience.
But for some fullscreen experiences I love to mess around with small dev apps lite Sphere (clean and with great potential) or Wide Web. Both already better than Opera.

The lack of real pinch-zooming is a huge disappointment, and perhaps a deal-breaker. I'll give it a bit more time later, but I'm pretty disappointed so far...

This browser is absolutely attrocious. If you stick to the initial set of web pages you're OK, but stray outside of that and it gets ugly fast. I have yet to find a web page that looks right and many are completely mangled. In some cases even checkboxes don't work, such as one of my favorite sites, where in Opera mini I can't check the checkbox to keep my logged in. It's astoundingly awful. Not even worth a download. I'm not sure why I was expecting anything else, though, as my experience with Desktop Opera was only marginally better. These folks just need to hang it up.

If you want a decent alternate browser, I recommend iCab Mobile. It has some very nice features. There are also some downsides in comparison to Safari, but it still is genuinely useful. One big reason for me is that it has the option to disguise itself as another browser, including Desktop Safari, which is great for working around annoying web sites that force a limited mobile view on you, or that make it difficult to switch (like Amazon where you can only switch at the home page). Unlike Opera, it displays web pages properly.

    And it's version 5.0?

Opera really reminds us why Safari revolutionised mobile browsing with its sleek and easy-to-use interface.

Probably why it was approved. Apple isn't going to approve something that blows it away.

Idk what to think of this. Yeh, its quicker. In some cases a lot quicker. But Safari is just so much smoother to use. This doesnt feel like a poished iPhone app. It feels like an old rough around the edges Palm OS app. I was so excited for this too. Even waited to 12 last night to get it. Kinda lame.

I was so excited to use Opera mini after seeing the demo video. So disappointed. The text is killing me... Even choosing full screen with large text you have to zoom in all the way and it's still hard to read.

    Safari > Opera mini

    1 Star for sure...

Installed, tested and deleted. What is the point of using this browser?

I do see the reason on a WinMo or Droid. This is the better browser on my other devices.

But there is no reason to use this on iPhone or Ipod. Safari beats the crap out of it.

My question is rather: When can I have Safari on mi other devices?

    (No answer needed...)
