It'd be great to get some sort of clarification from Apple, or someone in the know, as to whether this is gonna see the light of day on ios.
I want this app to come out. Hopefully it's before the freeze. I doubt this would cause people to go to android if they have an ipad already but new customers may if they research. But really OnLive isn't that great right now.
Man I am majorly disappointed that this didn't make it out before the itunes freeze. Something must have come up that apple didnt like with the app. Would be nice if they told us...
Just tried this in an AT&T store, on Galaxy Skyrocket Android. Absolutely amazing technology, the wireless connection in the store is slow but there was very little lag, the image quality takes a dive, yes, but still extremely playable. You can try out any game before you buy it, nothing to install/maintain, it just works! Internet speed can only go up, this is easily the Netflix of gaming. The biggest problem is of course games selection for touch devices. Apple or Google needs to buy Onlive and give them the money to attract big game developers, and add touch control support. Virtual stick/buttons is fine, streamlined control + optimization is even better. Ideally every big game will go from PC/console to Onlive after say, six months. Similar to how a movie theater release will go DVD+Netflix later. Even last year's top games on a big screen phone/tablet will be amazing. It also kills piracy completely. Onlive may be before their time, but I definitely see this as the way of the future.
Ok what gives? Eli must have a press version, look at his tweet: https://twitter.com/#!/hodapp/status/149618901985132544
Really hoping this didn't get rejected. Been asking on twitter with no response and been checking iTunes with no results. I can't wait to play onlive on my iPhone.
Agreed, though iTunes is currently in lockdown, so I'd guesstimate it'll be around a week before we can hope to see it...
I thought the iPad will be first and than the iPhone version will follow in the future but I hope a universal one will be approved for both upon release. Hope it IS approved
Apple wants developers to make their in-app purchases through the app store because they then get a 30% cut. A lot of developers/retailers aren't happy to do this and so take out the ability to purchase within the app, instead directing to their web store. Apple doesn't seem to mind this too much, see Amazon for example. Onlive's service allows you to demo a game for 30 minutes and then if they like, purchase it and continue playing. Onlive has about 200 games I think, and quite a number are £30 plus. Some poor tester is probably having to repeateduly go through at least a 30 minute demo to make sure that at the end of it, Onlive aren't allowing you to purchase without going through Apple's own ecosystem. This is obviously just guesswork but in my opinion this is the most likely reason that the app is taking so long.
That could be the reason but I doubt it. That would be a simple line of code that would be pretty easy to find given it should be pretty similar to each other and just needs to be disabled or deleted out of the app completely.
Touchgen did a good video preview of onlive and the controller in their latest video: http://www.touchgen.net/onlive-bluetooth-controller-hands-on
The community manager at OnLive told me that the app is still in the approval process - so it hasn't been declined but Apple is taking their time deciding.
Over on Onlive Fans, there is a thread stating that the Onlive Viewer interface has been changed up and no longer has the Marketplace button available. Could it be tweaks for the actual player maybe? Crossing fingers...
Has everyone forgotten about this app? How can it still be in approval process after so long? Has anyone contacted the developers?
Last I heard their community rep was blaming Apple, I dunno what's happening but it's doing my head in. I'm just glad I decided to wait to buy one of their Universal controllers when it was actually released.
