Yes, but Payback or Car Jack Streets are not GTA. I would like to test this game before spending 10 dollars, it is obvious.
There was never a Demo or Lite version of any GTA game and you can be sure there will be no one for Chinatown Wars. Just watch a few videos and be assured that this is the first major game for the iPhone/iTouch. Rockstar Games is a professional game developing studio and Chinatown Wars is a game specificaly made for a mobile platform. The controls and interface are well thought through and work perfectly after getting used to them in the first missions. The amount of content and the quality at that price puts those DLC rocking half assed ports by EA to a shame. There is virtually no way to not love this game and have fun playing it.
I don't need sarcasm here. I am not a brave American who can go to the kiosk and buy any Gift Card without a problem. Maybe You are right. I have watched compariosn of DS, PSP and iPhone versions of GTA: Chinatown. To be honest, the best it looks on PSP, but iPhone has very close look. If only I will get somehow giftcard to charge my account, I will buy this game.
How very dare you. I'm not American, nor have I ever purchased a gift card! ...and the sarcasm is gonna keep coming. BTW what does everyone think of my custom icon:
I don't want to start an arguement. If You are not American and have never bought a Gift Card, You have to have an access to Credit Card and in this way You buy applications. Believe me or not, I have no access to such luxuries, and I won't have in the nearest future as Credit Cards are limited to the wealthliest only in my country. You don't have to be malignant and ironic to deliver Your opinion. And I like Your icon, it is much better than default one.
Yes, a Lite would be nice. Personally, I spent hours with Car Jack Streets without mastering the driving and this makes me hesitant with GTA: CW. That and lack of quick-save. I have abandoned GTA: Vice City because having to repeat whole missions + drives to them got to me. And while I finished Mafia, which is otherwise a great game, I was on the brink of violent rampage quite a few times before I was through with it . I am afraid that my skillz just aren't up to it...
Alright, well... the chances of a lite are not good. Definitely not anytime soon. In just over 24 hours the game has gone straight to the top of almost every App Store it's sold in and the reviews for all three versions of the game rate it as one of the best portable games ever made. Going by this info and any previous knowledge you might have of GTA games, the decision shouldn't be too hard.
Good news is that this game like GTA IV has a trip skip so you don't need to make the same drive over and over again. It doesn't work if you are driving to catch somebody but if you need to drive somebody somewhere you can trip skip.
To be honest, decision was not about how great this game is, but if it is really worth 10$. It is really hard for me to catch any Gift Card, lately I won just 10$ card and I have dilemma: buy GTA: Chinatown Wars or wait a little more, gather more credits and buy software update to 4.0. You have to admit, that it is not an easy decision. By the way, from screenshots and videos I have seen, GTA: CW is definately great game, and the best confirmation is, as MidianGTX mentioned, jump of this game to the top of every AppStore all around the world. I don't deny it.
I'm surprised you didn't just use a pot leaf with the GTA logo since there's a lot of drug-dealing in the game It's definitely worth $10. I would have been happy paying $30 for this game on any platform. I've played about 4 hours so far and I'm 7% complete... of course all the best stuff is still to come, so the remaining 93% will take much longer.
Since this game costs 2-3 times that much on other platforms (DS & PSP) and the iPhone version is the same (even including the exclusive PSP mission as far as I've heard) I would say it's pretty clear that it's worth the $10 Add to that the rave reviews it's getting, making it clear that this is not just a sloppy port, but a REAL high quality iPhone version - it's really a no brainer if you are at all interested in GTA.
I was always fan of all kinds of RPGs, as much for PCs, as for iPhones. But I also enjoyed GTA series, especially GTA III. This is the reason, why I am thinking about my dilemma seriously: if GTA: CW would be just another, casual game gone without an echo, I would simply pass and keep gathering money for an update. Thanks to all posts gathered in this thread, nice (or less) words, I made my decision to buy GTA: CW as only I get my won GC. I am sure I won't be disappointed. Hm, seems like I caused here a little mess. I am sorry.
The rumor I heard is that 4.0 will be a free update because they are competing with other phone companies that all offer free updates and currently have an advantage in some areas.
