Just a quick edit. Unfortunately, that's what it comes down to -- is the expect income there to justify a healthy development budget. As things stand right now, I don't expect to see games of this depth created directly for the iDevice, at least not for a while. Can't complain about ports, though, as long as they're as good as this one.
just wondering, does it involve lots of resources/time for a company to port a ready made game on other platforms to iDevices? R* probably made a lot on DS/PSP that selling it on the App Store should be a no-risk venture. They can only make more profits, right?
There's gotta be a lot less money involved with porting a game (although it depends just how much altering it needs... varies from platform to platform) since you've already done the research, you've got your designs, you've got your core gameplay, the story, the textures, the sounds, everything is already set up. However it's still worth noting that porting a game effectively (i.e. not obviously being a lazy port of the original) still requires a good deal of man-hours poured into the project. I'm not sure how long ago GTA:CW was announced for iPhone but it clearly wasn't a weekend-job getting it ported. Of course if you're a company like Rockstar you can afford to spend that time doing it, which is why it's probably more reaonable to hope that this release will pull in more big-name devs from other platforms, rather than convince the indie devs to put more content into their games. The little guys are doing fine as they are, they've got their market and people are buying their games, it's not fair to expect them to step up their game to the level of multi-million dollar development behemoths like Rockstar.
id agree with this.. however, it is human nature to better our self. so i see the indis of today getting much better as time goes. who knows maybe some of these indis will make it into the big time.. chris.
Actually CTW sold very poorly in the two platforms. I think the iPhone port is kinda break-even for them. Anyway, they are in for a lot of cash here (already top-grossing in UK and US AppStores).
i like the idea that the app store received a retail frontman from a big name cross-platform developer GTA CW : Available on DS/PSP/Iphone/Ipod Touch
I'm having a bit of an issue with this game. If you take a look at the map I have created here you'll see a particular location. A couple of times I have entered the alleyway from the north but as I approach the far wall the graphics go all blurry and torn like it's crashing. If I exit the way I came they return to normal. I went back in and it went crazy again and the radar display went black so I tapped on it and the game froze - had to restart my phone. This has happened twice in the same location. Is anyone else experiencing this?
This is great. I think i ran into a cheater... Who doesn't respond to PM's right after i send the money... I learned my lesson - don't trust TouchArcaders lol.
To be honest you shouldn't have trusted him in the first place, but you might as well post his username so we know who not to trust.
Oh, GLADLY. It's hirschy75. I just CAN'T get it how people can be such d-bags. I offered ****ing 20 bucks for 10 bucks card, cause i knew noones gonna go buy it for just 5 extra bucks.... and he cheated!! It's like, ah f***
huh? GTA=GTA FINAL FANTASY= RPG RPG NOT COMPATIBLE WITH GTA. lol but seriously, there is almost no resemblance between the two genres except the awesomeness.
Anyone know if there is any way to skip songs using the custom radio channel using the GTA playlist? Also, each time I start up the game the playlist starts all over, playing the same songs in order as before.
Dunno about the first question, but yeah, you're stuck with that playlist issue unless they update it. Kinda sucky.
why the hell would you pay 20 dollars for a ten dollar giftcard? you wanna buy my 25 dollar giftcard for 50?
I've completed this game in April 2009 on the DS. It was about 45 euro's when I bought it, and you know what, if I had to I would have payed 60 euro's for it. Best handheld game ever. On the iPhone it beats all 10$ games, and you will be happier with this than a bunch of other games that are 10$ together. I'm not lying when I say this game is better than all gameloft games together. This is the only polished fully open world gaming experience on the iPhone, and one of the best on other handheld devices. This definitly is a must buy, the only REAL must buy. Other games who claim they are a must buy... Well, if you've bought this game you'll see they lie! You can play it for hours, but also just for a couple of minutes thanks to it's quick loading time. 5/5 best game on the iPhone yet.
Yea BECAUSE it's Chinatown Wars!!! And i can't access it in Turkey... AND i need to pay extra for the guy to bother buying it.
