After playing more of this version, I must say I prefer it over the DS rev. The driving had me confounded for a while, but given a few more minutes to acclimate myself with them they are more than capable of getting the job done. And the difficulty has been toned down a bit. And it's a good thing, I find. No slow-down, exept in extreme cases. Fast. Tons of things to do. Cheap. No-brainer. BUY!!!!!
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ds-psp-comparison-grand-theft/58006 Gametrailers has an excellent DS/PSP comparison video of Chinatown Wars. I've emailed them to ask if they could do a three way comparison now that the iPhone version is out which would be great. Personally, I don't really understand all the complaints about people feeling ripped off about the quality of the graphics for a $9.99 game. For one thing, value for dollar is not just in cutting edge effects, but also in content, and I think that regardless of graphics, Chinatown Wars offers the length, depth, and replayability in terms of content to justify the $9.99 price. In terms of graphics specifically, I don't agree with people who say the iPhone graphics look worse than the DS version. It might only be my observations, but I think the iPhone version implemented the level of graphics on the DS version with the PSP engine and scaled the overall resolution up. What I mean is that the iPhone version appears to share the same engine and look as the PSP version, ie. more solid 3D polygons, rather than the cel-shaded flatter 2D look of the DS version. At the same time, the PSP version implemented higher quality textures and especially better shadowing and lighting than the DS version and which the iPhone version similarly seems to lack. If people didn't mind the cel-shaded graphics of the DS, the iPhone's major graphical advantage is the higher resolution which makes everything look sharper although screen real-estate is taken up by the controls. A game doesn't need to try to be graphically life-like to look good, and trying to do so on the iPhone would probably lead to disappointment. I find the more stylized art direction makes Chinatown Wars on iPhone look great. Besides it's not like Rockstar, cheapened out since they did basically fully port the latest and highest-rated mobile GTA game to iPhone at a lower price than other platforms.
Because in real life the majority of the things u do in this game could be considered illegal and are usually looked down upon by the public
Hey anyone know what the trucks with the red dot above them are for? I've blown some up but I don't get what they're supposed to do. Any help would be awesome. Great game, and +1 about gangster being shit
I assume you're talking about the ammo vans? Or it could be the drug vans, I'm not sure. Try to jack it and see. It's probably just a drug van, which can be jacked and looted.
SOOOO anyone know how this performs on iphone 3g??????? Every review on itunes says it crashes on iphone 3g..
IMO the graphics, are detailed and lovely, shitloads better than Gangstar's anyway, And anyone who is saying that the DS version looks better really needs to get glasses.
Alright I've got it! Man, I knew it was good but I'm still surprised and impressed at how smoothly this game runs. ...and who the hell was saying it looked bad? Jesus people, remember when Driver came out and we were praising it for matching the graphical prowess of the PSX verison? Well if we has the same story here, this is what we'd be getting: Now that's what us GTA vets are used to, hell a lot of us still enjoy that game. Chinatown Wars looks incredible.
Quick questions: 1: How much did you smoke? 2: Did you take off your glasses? 3: Are you one of the PSP fanboys who whined about it being "2D" for weeks? FYI, the game is 3D in isometric view.
@people confused with my post: I never said I didn't like GTA, just that I never played it. When I played a lot of console gaming, I was younger and mom wouldn't let me get GTA, for obvious reasons. When I was old enough to get it on my own, I didn't play console game much (I don't even have a console now). I do have have GTA I think 3 or 4 for xbox, but I pawned the xbox. Only games I play in the last few years were for ds and iPhone. But my son broke my ds before GTA:CTW was available on DS. And until now, Gangstar was the only option I had to attempt the GTA experience. I plan to get GTA:CTW. Might wait until this weekend though to get it. Still have a game I'm trying to beat, and I just got a new game yesterday.
Haha it's just kijib. You'll get used to it and learn to love him for making you rofl so much. He's exactly what I wanna be like when I'm a 80 year old gamer grandpa.
