I've put in a couple hours now, and i have somewhat mixed feelings on it. One one hand technically its impressive as anything on the system. On another, i'm just not crazy about the controls, especially during driving. I like the auto-centering, but it feels there's no happy medium speed between dead slow and too fast. I feel like most of the carss just take off and are impossible to control with the precision needed. For example, the taxi deliveries i found to be very difficult since driving without ramming cars all over the place is very difficult.
I don't think going from physical to digital distribution alone justifies the large price drop from $40 to $10. In this case, it's probably more that the original development costs have already been paid off between the DS and PSP releases and the iPhone and iPad releases only have minimal porting costs and the rest is pure revenue generation through volumes. If Rockstar was to develop a new GTA exclusively (at least originally) for iOS and they were targeting the same $10 price point I don't think we'd get the same breadth or depth. They'd probably need something closer to $15 like Chaos Rings although I think $20 is still reasonable for a new GTA with iOS as the launch platform.
I could have wrote that! It's exactly how I'm finding it too. I'll have to look into the other control options. The camera swing around behind the car makes it difficult too..
I have seen a few little bugs. Sometimes when walking or driving, cars and or people will just vanish from the screen. And sometimes when in heavy traffic or when there are a ton of people on screen it really slows down. I think this game overall is outstanding. I played threw it on the iPhone and the move to the iPad was very easy to adjust to. Clean up a few of the bugs and you could have a real gem on the iPad.
In my opinion the driving controls works really well. I can take a fast car like the sport car that has been ski'd over (white stripes ) and drive around full speed no problem, doing sharp 90 degrees turns, etc. without crashing any more than in any other GTA. It's important to not hold the left/right arrows down, but instead tap them repeatable. Turning will be slower that way and thus you won't loose controll of the car. You can do the same for acceleration if you don't want full speed.
Well I decided to get this on the iPad afterall, and I am blown away by how nice the graphics are. Lush.
finally caved in and bought this. ah well, with 113.something dollars left in my gift credits, i think i've made a good purchase
Help please! Can someone please tell me the code for destroying the the moonglobe in the episode " double trouble" thanks
I'm with ya. I bought this on sale like six months ago and still haven't played but five minutes. It's exactly why I rarely buy games day one for what are usually higher prices.
