Trust me, there's plenty of weapons that can either be obtained through picking them up in-game (it becomes easier to find better weapons as the game progresses), or use cheat codes to get all the weapons.
are cheat codes "enterable" from the start? If so, how and will this affect any of my scoring or stats?
Yeah, just go to any safehouse and they'll be useable from there. All you have to do is arrange the letters on the board to spell out codes. And, as with all GTA games, the codes will remain on if you save, although the ones that aren't one-time-use codes like regaining health or armor, gaining weapons, etc. mostly can be toggled on/off. And if you don't want your weapons any longer and want to find them on your own, store your drugs in your safehouse and get busted by the cops.
but will entering cheat affect scoring or stats? like not recording your progress for something since you cheated?
Oh, no, you can easily progress through the game as normal. All missions, rampages, etc. are accessible and your progress is still saved as normal. It doesn't mess with your progress at all.
There was a thread on it a while back. You can also find a list on almost any iPhone gaming site, as well as GameFAQs. Doing a quick Google search for "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars iPhone Cheats" should get results.
Can this be played on 1st Gen devices? I think I remember hearing that it didn't work on 1st Gen devices and my friend really wants to get the game but he has the old iPod touch. I checked the app description and it didn't make any mentions about it not working on 1st Gen devices and there was even a review from someone with a 1st Gen iPod Touch. I just want to confirm for sure before I suggest he try and purchase it.
I don't have a 1st Gen handy to try it out on and my friend doesn't want to spend the time downloading the game only to find out it won't work on his device anyway. I'm asking because I was sure there was an issue with 1st Gens playing the game when it first came out but the description doesn't say anything about 1st Gens not being able to play it. I'm guessing RockStar fixed the restriction.
I'm sure they did fix it. They removed the notice that stated it wouldn't work on the 1st gen devices. And the requirements says all devices. Only reason I don't have it now is because of space.
I knew there was methods but the reason I was asking was because like Darkhorse said they removed the warning from the description and all devices appear to be listed. Thanks Darkhorse. I assumed because they removed the warning for 1st Gen devices that it was fixed. My friend will be very happy to hear.
I'm just letting others know that my friend was able to download and install Chinatown Wars on his 1st Gen so R* did make it compatible with 1st Gen devices which is nice to know. I own the DS version but tried the lite version myself and find the aiming a little difficult. When I played the DS version at least it had the shoulder button that was used to lock onto a target but this one is just weird and I'm not entirely sure how it works, I think you just have to face someone and open fire and it will try and lock on to them but it doesn't seem to be very accurate.
The lock-on is activated when you start firing. It'll act just like the regular aiming in the DS version, except it's only activated when you start firing.
Thanks, I played through the lite version a second time and the aiming seemed to be much better than it was the first time for some reason. I think I'm going to pick this up even though I played through the DS version already. I like the cell shaded graphics more but this is certainly nice for a change and being able to pull the game out where ever I want to do some drug trading will be fun. I never really bring my DS with me so I don't get as much use out of it anymore.
How do you unlock the Bulletproof Patriot in the Boabo Autoshop? The way to get it on the DS and PSP versions isn't possible on the App Store version (I think).
How do you unlock it in the DS version. I played through the DS version but I don't remember getting it. BTW, I must admit that I was unsure about getting this because I thought the controls were going to be bad especially for aiming since the DS version had a lock on button. I have to say though that after buying the game and playing it for 3 or 4 days now I'm very impressed with the iPhone/iPod Touch version. There have definitely been a few instances when I was screaming at my guy because he was targeting something I didn't want to but for the most part the game is flawless, even driving is a joke. To see such a fun and huge game that I played on my DS ported to the iDevices so well and looking so good I can't believe it. It runs great on my 3rd gen 32GB iPod Touch and even my friend who bought it for his 1st Gen says it runs great, he never played the DS or PSP version so he is loving the game.
