Actually, it's called "sound business strategy." Why let Apple control when your product goes to market? Much better to get the game approved, set a release date, prepare a marketing/publicity blitz to coincide with it. Keep in mind that Eliminate requires serious server capacity to run and maintain: I'm sure they'll want to make sure that that's ready before the game goes out to the public.
Also they can pass final copies of the game onto review sites (such as TA) so that reviews can go online the same day (or even before) the game launches. Of course if the game sucks, this is a very bad idea! But in this case, it might convince a load more people to buy it.
That's right. In other words, how books, movies, console/PC games, and other entertainment and cultural products are usually released. It shouldn't surprised us that companies as sophisticated as ngmoco or Gameloft would follow a similar strategy.
I'd go with $5; this is a premium game, they most likely won't do ads, and they'll need some serious investment for servers because many people won't purchase their energy DLC. I know I won't - I'm not in it for leveling up constantly. I'm in it for the deathmatching.
They made it clear that the game would be very competitively priced, so I'm guessing it will be a bit less.
Why are ads such a big deal? It's just on the first menu. They don't affect anything during gameplay =/
I know, right? Everyone's always bitch bitch bitchin' about "PAYING FOR AN APP WITH ADS OMG!" just because of some little ad in the menu that barely even takes open 1/4 the screen.
Most people don't like paying to be subjected to advertisements trying to get them to spend more money.
If they're gonna put ads, they should probably do it in loading screens while prepping for online matches. Those and those little tiny ads don't bother me too badly.
Well I looked at the thing that says eliminate pro. Maybe there will be a free version with less content. Maybe they're holding it off so they can be released together!
Umm my ass. This is ngmoco were talking about. If they're gonna charge $10 for a cartoon game where you roll balls around for hours (Rolando *cough*) this is going to be $10 at the least....
That's possible. Maybe the free version will prevent users from getting energy, and for a low price you can get the full version with customizable weapons and characters. It really would expand the community as well.
That could have the side effect of keeping them out of the top 10 though, since the customer base would be fragmented.
