Technically yes, but it works differently than other games. You can choose to create a private game, then send your friends invitations over Plus+ which they'll receive as push notifications. The game itself is still being run via the server, and all of the iPhones are considered clients, but the end result to the user is almost identical to the way local wifi multiplayer works in other games. The plus side is you don't have to worry about the speed and accuracy issues that can potentially crop up when you have one phone running as both a client and a server. The minus side is that you still need access to the internet to play, so you can't do the sort of ad-hoc multiplayer that is common on the PSP and in some iPhone games.
Yeah it is nice that not only have they added it, but they're building the online infrastructure around it. All of the stats, matchmaking, game saves, and multiplayer are being handled via Plus+.
Cant wait to buy this when it comes out. Been waiting for this game for quite some time like everyone else. Hope apple doesnt take too long as well.
Its got to be really close to release by now. They were doing RCs like a week ago, so I'm guessing it will be submitted by the end of this week.
Your energy acts like an entry fee to each match. Your energy doesn't actively deplete while you're actually playing--you're paying a chunk of it up front. Similarly, if you're in a match when your recharge timer goes off, you won't receive that energy until the match has ended. And you won't start earning credits again until you have enough energy to pay your "entry fee." --MJ
So what if suddenly, your wifi/3G connection goes bad? Will I have to start all over? What if it suddenly crashes and you'll have to pay again? Would it be possible to acually have it charge you and give you credits AFTER you've finished a match?
Same with what happens if you receive a call during an online match? Tried to ask this question on twitter but haven't gotten an answer yet.
Go ahead, you can play as long as you want. If you want extra credits, you'll have to pay a bit extra, that's all.
I don't know all the specifics, but I can get answers from the team once they have some free time (they're still neck deep in fixing things). But I can assure you they've spent a lot of timing looking into these contingencies. --MJ
No worries. Would rather you let them keep working hard. Be glad to have some coffees delivered for the team!
Thanks for the info. Just a quick clarification - is the 90 minute energy recharge time confirmed at this point, or is that just speculation based on the preview builds? And has the number of games that can be played before you run out of energy been disclosed yet?
