In my opinion, I don't think it will. Maybe it'll come out in Canada before TP is worldwide but either they'll both be released worldwide at the same time or Eliminate is a day or two behind. Just what I'm thinking. Same. Add me. ID in sig.
I am just worrying that Plus+ as a service isn't currently up to standard. It's very slick, and works well, but there isn't a chat feature, or a horizontal browsing mode. I know they seem like small gripes really. On a related note, I would love if they added voice chat between both friends (private) and all players on the server. On a more offtopic but still a bit related note, the iPhone needs one social gaming platform, rather than the multitude we have now. A consolidation of Plus+ and OpenFeint might work. @Kmacleod: I don't think Crystal is vapourware. The developers of Ravensword are supposedly using it in their game since the got a publishing contract with Chillingo.
But I think it will be decent to have something for people to play first... some of us got those full version before they release free plus+ version, so they should need something to make people more interested into their games... So TP: D should release first if the decided to make test for Eliminate, as TPD don't really need much server resources
I prefer Plus+ over OpenFeint. The voice chat feature would be killer, if implemented! I think that both Touchpets and Eliminate will be released on the same day, but Eliminate will only be released in Canada and Touchpets will be worldwide.
Yes, Plus+ needs a chat feature or a private messaging feature. It also needs +point global leaderboards, delay-able challenges, and a better web presence. Horizontal browsing doesn't matter at all, but the rest is important. The iPhone does not need one network, however. Open Feint has a bunch of shovelware and garbage apps, and Plus+ doesn't. I'd rather be a part of a network without those apps. Crystal was vaporware at the time it was announced, that is for sure. They may have something now, but they probably didn't have a single line of code at the time it was first announced.
A supposedly in-development iphone social gaming network that is supposedly being made by Chillingo. Eliminate will be bringing a bunch of new features to Plus+, so it remains to be seen what anyone else will be doing to catch up.
Very true. Here's to hoping that we see this with the release of Eliminate. It is very true about OpenFeint having lots of shovelware apps, but the reason for this is that it is free, and thus largely unregulated. XBL is not free for developers, and Plus+ is regulated by ngmoco, and we can see the effect this has immediately. But, I still think that we need to combine the features of both networks, not the networks themselves (although there are a few OpenFeint games I would like to see on Plus+ instead). At announcement it was still in the concept stage. This doesn't make it vapourware. Something like DNF that has been 'in development' for 10 years is vapourware. It's good to see some proper discussion in this thread again.
We probably won't see it quite yet, but they are adding a bunch of new features in the future. They're going to be replacing some of the native list views with secure web views, which will allow faster deployment of features. What I'm hoping is that this won't come at the cost of the elegant feel the current version currently has. What will happen though is that certain features from Eliminate's online component will probably make their way into Plus+. There were a lot of things discussed at the community day and on other occasions about where the service could potentially go, and I can just say that I'm excited for the future I would definitely rather to be a part of a regulated social gaming network than an anything-goes network. Open Feint certainly has a place in the market for people who disagree with me, but saying that it should be the only game in town is misunderstanding the areas where the services differ. There are some high quality apps on Open Feint, though The problem with Open Feint for developers is the lack of effective cross-promotion. Part of the benefit to Plus+ is that you'll have your game appearing in the games lists of a bunch of killer successful games like Rolando 2 and Skeeball. Open Feint allows lesser known apps to appear alongside successful games like Pocket God, but it doesn't give Pocket God any incentive. The lack of quality control provides a situation where cross-promotion only benefits one party, and this will have a long-term negative effect on the service. Announcing a service, promising that it'll change the social gaming marketplace completely, then going over three months without ever mentioning the service again or dropping a screenshot counts as vaporware to me. Maybe they have something, maybe they don't. There is no way to tell at the moment.
So another morning with 3 hours before Cupertino back to 10am, when do u guys think will be out (if really comes out today?)
Well, in all honesty, it could be out in an hour or it could be next week. You just don't know, it's all in Apple's hands... (But, mind you, I'm checking my Canadian appstore account about every 30 min )
Any news in the last 51 pages? I log off right after we beat minigore in the biggest thread which isn't a friend code thread.
Not much news from the last 51 pages, and some are chatting, some asked a few questions, discussions on platforms, done
Apples endless submission process WHAT the heck is going on with Apple? Too much "hotty" or "am i drunk" -apps to wave through? Let Eliminate through or i'll buy a Pre. We all will, right?
