Been looking forward to another console port that I can use my controller on (after 400+ hours of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite...damn, I was addicted to that game). Just bought Banner Saga since it went on sale but haven't played it yet. Looks like umma have to justify the purchase of this as well.
SO this is actually good? The screenshots didnt look that great to me, and when it said something about xbox on the screenshot I was a little suspicious
Yes it is really good. You may have already heard of this even though you havent played it (like in my case) and i ended up really being impressed by this port. For ports, usually it's the control scheme's transition to touchscreen that makes or breaks it, and in Stranger's Wrath, the devs did a divine job. Very resposive vstick (floating on default, can be fixed in settings), resizable and movable buttons, and how the heal was implemented actually made sense, and it felt natural coz of that. If there ever was some fluke in the controls, i'd say it's the reloading which didnt feel natural at all. It does however work how they implemented it. The only flaw i can find in this port is that you cant max out the visual settings at all on any device. I only have the ipad air, but i seriously dont think the Air2 can handle Stranger's Wrath at the available maximum settings within the game.
I actually play it with the highest settings on my iPad air 2 and it's definitely playable and in fact quite smooth. It weirdly slows down sometimes but it doesn't seem to change if I alter the settings so I leave them on high.
It has been said already but worth saying again, this is one fantastically well done port, it feels native even. I have settings at max in Air 2 and 6 Plus and it's solid at 30fps. Not native resolution on either but high enough to not notice anything. Note even IB3 doesnt run at native so it doesn't have to in order to look good. I can't even think of anything off hand that does really on either device so don't let that part be a factor. You'd need sniper level eyesight to notice anyway, if even you would anyway (on most recent devices that is). Controls are spot on. If you're used playing on touch screen at all, you definitely will have no problem and find them actually very natural, surprisingly good actually. Beyond that though, it's the story and humour is the best part. It's really is hugely entertaining in that area. Much more than a whole lot out there. In fact despite looking amazing, it's the story that's the very best part of it and worth the price of admission all on its own. It's some of super engine that they used to port this because it just works so very well.
i noticed that this port comes from the Oddworld inhabitants itself. It's SO good to see them back on the video gaming track, they where off the scene for quite a few years because they where totally pissed about the gaming biz (mainly the big publisher, not really a surprise). This is just an awesome company and Lorne Lanning a very charismatic and symphatic guy.I have no doubt about a good support of this game (if there are bugs or something),just don't forget to report something directly to them (instead of just posting here). Everybody should buy this game if only to encourage him to port his Abe games as well. This is gaming history at it's best! He already confirmed a port of Abe's"new n tasty"when i asked him a year ago on Facebook but good sales from stranger could improve this process i guess So,TA:where's the frontpage headline about this beauty? If you would excuse me now,i have a date in the app store
Well I'm not sure that they did the iOS version, Square 1 seems to be credited as the dev here. Although they could have helped OI. Also I love Lorne! Really sad when they said that Stranger would be the end of the oddworld saga and when they quit videogames a few years ago. Glad to see them and Just Add Water breathing some life back into this fantastic franchise.
i just looked at the appstore and as dev it just shows"oddworld inhabitants inc"and nothing else.Even if they had help from another team it means at least to me they are responsible for it. I'm wondering how they got the rights from EA back.Stranger was published by EA back in the days and that was the reason they had no interest in making games anymore (yes, surprise.EA again...).God bless only for a (longer) while
Wow. I'm speechless. Been a bit bummed this Thanksgiving. My mom passed a few months back and even at 40 yrs old that hurts. I adored this game on Xbox. In fact it was one of my favorites. Seeing this hit today has truly lifted my spirits!
I think (now that I've thought about it) that Table Top Racing does as well (plus at 60fps). Tis a very small list indeed though. This one does look top notch on top two devices though whatever res it's running. Plus it's not bad on battery either which is quite nice for such a highly polished game of this type. General I find stuff like this just too battery intensive so I'm very happy with this port in just about every area. I'm real glad they did it as it does do a lot for the platform overall.
Two completely different games. Because your mind cannot decide, I flipped a coin for you and it came up oddworld. You're welcome.
i played for an hour now and wow what an awesome port and beautiful experience.Plays great with controller (yay,my stratus still works),almost console style experience.I never finished it on xbox but this time...no way to stop earlier graphics are really really nice although some stutter here and there.I lowered the resolution to 60% percent and shadows and special FX to"many"now. Makes not that much of a difference to me (especially shadows and FX) but a noticeable better framerate. Now it's smooth even whith a lot of grass etc.arround. In most cases i'm too lazy to write app store reviews but i'll immediately fire up a 5* review for this one now.
Yeah, I know, but I'm thinking that since I don't own a MFI controller and The Banner Saga is half priced, I'll choose The Banner saga.
Damn. My ipad Air 1 feels old already. Or it may just mean they thoroughly tested and optimized on the 6 and 6 plus only, being the latest ithings released. Maybe handing out the performance settings was the easy out to let the users try to optimize the game on their device rather than do it themselves. Still, im loving this much.
