It seems to me that the third-party response to October's announcements has been relatively muted. Over the last couple of years, the general pattern seems to have been that every Apple product introduction or iOS release sparks a feeding frenzy of app store sales. Not so with iOS 5. I don't have quantitative data, but my impression is that sales have been running at around their normal baseline rate throughout October. I'm not complaining, just curious. Do any devs or iOS business folks have insight into what drives the iOS discounting cycle and what might be different about iOS 5? Is it like the airline industry, where any major publisher can set off waves of competitive discounting, but if nobody rocks the boat, then all publishers prefer to hold the line on pricing?
