Thanks for the feedback everyone. Sorry I wasn't around much yesterday, but I'm reading everyones replies. So my 2 cents on the weapon physics: The bullets are fired with velocity relative to your ships velocity. The physics is correct, and we aren't going to change that. However, I'm getting the feeling that lots of people would enjoy the game more if the initial velocity of the plasma rifle was faster. That way the bullets wouldn't seem to curve as much. It's just going to be a matter of finding a good balance between fun and challenge. Thanks again for the feedback everyone! Jason
So after a few more hours of testing, I have more things to talk about. First off, I love this game, it's really fun to play and it requires a good amount of strategy. I've still had the game crash on me especially when using the chat feature, so that's something that definitely needs to be looked at. I also have a few suggestions that I think would be great in the final version. First off, more ships would be great, maybe you could put individual statistics in their info box, like bars showing speed, armor, power, etc. Second, I tried to join a match, but the play button never appeared in the ship selection screen. It had a number instead, I saw 0 and then 11 in a second attempt. Maybe you should have an emblem that appears above a ship when the chat box is open so that others won't open fire on it. And lastly, private matches should be in the final version. Other then that, I love this game, great work on it.
okay so when i sync my ipod to my computer to install Nova Rift everything is okay up until the very last moments in which a message pops up saying " The application 'NovaRift' was not installed on the iPod 'iPod touch' because the signer is not valid." any ideas on what may be causing this or what to do about it? Btw i am on a mac if it is of any relevance. EDIT- Okay i got it working but idk how, i just kind of messed around with it, maybe the files were still processing the transfer to iTunes?
Okay so after a few hours of playing NovaRift i have compiled a list of bugs, glitches, and ideas. First off, i love this game! It is incredibly fun and challenging Also, the music suits the game perfectly and it has a very cool introduction video! The controls are a bit confusing and difficult but after a few minutes in arcade mode i started to get the hang of them, once the concept and my own personal feeling of the controls had been developed i found that NovaRift has an exceptionally good movement system that is as good for a space shooter as any i have ever seen. Along these lines i also absolutely enjoy that when your ship is shot it begins to lose ship parts depending on where it was hit, ie. the thrusters, cockpit, etc. I love the way that the user can develop their own personal strategy with every ship and no two users will play exactly the same, the amount of strategies that can be used are limited only by the players imagination. That being said i have a few ideas on some things that could use improvement and new ideas that could be implemented. First, the things that i feel are the most needed are as follows, The ability to destroy meteors and a chat bubble when typing in game. I have found that when flying at full speed the ship surrenders nearly all of its turning capability and certainly cannot stop on a dime! This mostly will result in a head-on collision with a meteor causing substantial damage to your ship; the solution, allow for meteors to be destroyed by ship cannons, the bigger the meteor the more shots required to destroy it. If the chat bubble were to be implemented it would be a lot easier if one wanted to make it a fair fight and to not take a cheap shot on their opponent or if ones strategy involves taking cheap shots, either way this feature would benefit all players in one way or another. As an after thought, different maps would remove the sense of redundancy from the online matches. Now for some completely new ideas, a friend and Private Messaging system, new online game styles, personal stats, upgrade and new ships, and player created war rooms. I will explain the friend and Pm system first as it is an essential parts to the different online game-play styles. With the friend and PM system players would be able to add players that they meet and play against in war rooms to their friends lists and would have the ability to PM them to arrange a time and/or war room to play in together, there is and unlimited amount of things that could be accomplished with this feature including player created mini games inside war rooms and much more. Now speaking of the mini games, i feel that instead of having three pre-created war rooms the game would be much better server if players were able to create their own rooms with the option of creating the room either public, in which anybody could join, or private, in which players would have to be invited by the creator of the room to join. This being said, i also think that players should have the option to pick the game play style of their created room such as, A. the traditional death match war room, B. a team death match war room ( different teams could be different colors, ie. one teams ships are red while the others are plain), and C. an invasion war room (up to six players could play in the same room as a team against an onslaught of opposing npcs, ie. arcade mode with friends). Now, what if players were giver a certain amount of money, say 50 sd (Space Dollars? the currency name could use improving) every time they destroyed or substantially damaged the ship, 15 sd every time they assisted in destroying the ship, and 5 sd every time they were to destroy a meteor? Well the first thing most would ask is "What would the money be used for?", well i'll tell you. The sd could be used to either buy and upgrade parts and/or primary and special cannons for each players personal ship or they could be used to improve attributes of their ship. In this way players would have the option of either playing with a stock ship or creating and fine-tuning their very own personal ship to fit their specific needs and fighting styles; also, the money could be used to purchase different and more elaborate HUD items. For example, the joystick, if purchased, could be replaced with say a boat or cars steering wheel, also the shield and health indicators could be changed and moved to the bottom or turned vertically and placed at the right-hand-side of the screen. Regardless a stat system would be fun. Now for the part in which i will mention the few bugs in the game. First of all, twenty-five percent of the time, the game will crash when chatting in-game on the multi-player war rooms, i personally experienced three crashes in about fifteen minutes in this way. Second, once i had an experience in which i was alone in the war room and went AFK for about thirty seconds, when i returned the back light of my iPod had gone out as it does a bit before it goes into sleep mode; however, when i tapped the screen to restore the back light to my iPod and commence playing the game froze and crashed after about five seconds. I attempted to re-create this crash but was unsuccessful. Lastly, while playing online today with a fellow beta tester, we encountered a bug in which a duplicate "me" was made. Basically there was me and then an image of my ship where i had previously been that could not be damaged or erased, after a few seconds my fellow beta tester crashed while trying to chat and the after image of me disappeared. As i do not know how this occurred in the first place i could not recreate it. As a final word, this game shows very much potential to be a very popular and widely played mmo, i look forward to seeing this game develop into one of the most popular games on the app store and to playing it at every step of the way! A NOTE TO BETA TESTERS!!- Yes i know, this is a very lengthy and through review of the game but i feel that if you would take the time to read through this in its entirety and to provide feedback on any of my ideas or to add onto and improve on my ideas we could, together, create the biggest mmo on the app-store to date! So please, all i ask is that you read this report and provide a few words of feedback, Thank you in advance! -Zovers
okay well the point of a beta tester isn't just to play the game and find glitches, they are also supposed to assist the creators by providing helpful feedback to enable them to improve their game in order for them to better reach their intended marketplace.
I never knew that. /sarcasm Yes, the point of a beta tester is to assist the developers, but not by telling them to add completely new things into their release build. You have no idea how long it takes to code things, and how hard it would be to include half of the things you mentioned in your completely unformatted and therefore very annoying to read paragraph. Don't lecture me on how to beta test, pal. I know more about it than you.
maybe you do, but if you know what's in my paragraph then i successfully tricked you into reading it, ha Edit- anyways i put the easier updates first and then listed ideas in the second portion, its not like I'm saying "GO!! Do it now!!"
I read four sentences concerning Space Dollars. Would be difficult to squeeze into the game unless a release date was pushed back. For your information, I have this game. And yes, I do.
