I have both a PS3 and Xbox 360, and I'm getting Battlefield 3 when it releases. But what console version should I get? I'm thinking PS3 since they have Blu-Ray Discs, but what are the Pros and cons of both? I thought this would need a separate thread because it would be pretty pointless to post it in the PS3 or Xbox 360 threads because of bias opinion.

I would get it for my PC but it obviously can't handle BF3 if it can barely run TF2.

    Discuss.

In my experience the 360 has better load times. The PS3 requires multi-gigabyte installs for most games these days to compensate for the slowness of the blu-ray drive. Unless the game is actually too big to fit on a DVD there's no advantage to blu-ray. I consider the 360 controller's offset sticks and deeper triggers a superior choice for FPS/TPS style games. The Dual Shock 3 is a better "all around" controller however. Graphics and framerate are normally minor differences that differ based on the developer and it's nigh impossible to tell if one version in particular will be superior to the other until it's actually out. If you've got an XBOX Live Gold account this should be a no-brainer.

I'm getting it for 360. The online just works better on that for me and I feel like the controller is a hundred times better, especially for shooters. Also I think the online community is more active and I like it better.

Also this. BF BC 2 had "53% of sales on the Xbox 360, 31% on the PS3 and 16% of its copies sold for the PC" so the larger community will lead to more people playing over a longer period of time further down the road.

And actually, the main reason I go Xbox is because that is where my friends all play games. If I can hop on and talk to them, I don't really care what system I'm on. It all comes down to personal preference and your situation. If you dont game with your friends, just pick the system that you like more, theres pros and cons to each.

I'l probably go 360 unless I do what I've been tempted to for a while and get myself a killer no holds barred gaming pc. Seeing battlefield 3 on PC is pushing me more that direction yeah it's the expensive option but I use my PC a lot as well so I can kind of justify it to myself.

  6. The quality of games released on multiple consoles varies to be honest and depends on a) the experience of the developer with said console and b) which console the developer began creating the game version for. For some games, developers create the game specifically for one console and then port it over for the other, meaning that either the 360 or PS3 version 'may' be superior to the other. For example, LA Noire and Final Fantasy VIII were 'better' on the PS3, whereas Bayonetta had a rubbish PS3 port until they patched it and Skyrim so far 'seems' to be better suited for the 360 as that's what they're focussing the most on.

But really, most of these differences are negligible. The PS3 is technically superior in terms of hardware, but all my friends are on the 360. Unless a game is clearly suited to the PS3, like FF13 was, then I'll usually buy it on the 360, as my own preference.

Then again, it also depends what is cheaper, hah.

This information is erroneous, blu ray reads at a constant speed, DVD drives do not read at a constant speed (though they have a "max" speed, which is often quoted) and vary depending upon how full the disc is. Fuller disc, longer search times. You can't just say blu ray 2X vs DVD 9X and that B reads faster than A. With most games being crammed into every square inch of the DVD, this is simply not true. Plus with MS copyrighting, you only have about 7 gigs to work with.

I'm not being biased either, I'm a PC/ iOS user, sold each console about a year ago on account of the absolutely insane price gouging from either manufacturer. I'm not cheap, but I know when I'm being abused :)

There is no comparision in terms of online support. Microsoft crushes Sony, Xbox Live vs PSN. Why would anyone get this game for a reason other than MP?

This game is built to shine on the PC. However, I do not appriciate the notion of people being allowed to operate their own gaming servers, which is one of the main premises that PC gaming was built upon. I think it's a stupid idea. And if you are not a mouse and keyboard man, you are going to get destroyed. You can certainly used a gamepad. You can use a 360 controller. By you're still going to lose badly. And I cannot function using a mouse and keyboard.

Too bad, because the PC will have 64 player support, while the consoles will only have 24, and the PC will run at 60fps, while consoles will only run at 30. I'm pretty sure I have a gaming rig in the form of a laptop that can run Battlefield 3. In the end, I would still lean towards the 360.

Here's my problem: I have more friends on PSN than I do on Xbox Live (My Live friends are next to none). However, I'm going to be paying for a subscription on Live which is $60 a year... In my hands, the PS3 controller feels more natural to me since I've been with Sony's consoles since the PS2 came out, but I've only had my 360 for a month.

If some of the TAers here are going for the 360 version of BF3, I'd definitely be willing to jump over there.
