Apple News Room https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2022/06/macos-ventura-brings-powerful-productivity-tools-new-continuity-features-to-mac/ Coming to Mac and iPad Later This Year.
This is awesome. Wonder down to what generation iPad will be supported though. Not gonna lie, really wish this could be made in mind of and released at least for the Max line of iPhones. Nonetheless it’s phenomenal to be seeing this pedigree of games coming to iOS. Shows how powerful the platform/hardware has become
Not sure. The game is also being ported to switch this summer. I Believe the current iPhones have more processing power than the switch, so. I think we may have to wait and see. It’s definitely going to be on the iPad Pro M1 and next gen iPad Air with M1.
The Switch is a five year old phone with a cooling fan. iPhones (and flagship Android phones) have had more power for several generations now. I think the reason we will likely not see a iPhone version is the expectation that the market is not there for a game like that on a “phone.”
I agree. I don’t really play any intensive games on iphone because of the heat. I play mostly on my IPad Pro M1.
I mean but if the chip is powerful and efficient enough then heat becomes less of an issue. Such that the M1 chip of iPads and hopefully phones some day has once again caught up to be able to handle more modern games without necessarily the heat issue. Anyway, in general, I’m impressed with some of the modern calibre coming across at least to the iPad. While it’s not that many, it is happening; Divinity OS2 and now this, even XCOM 2 which is even on phones.
Getting a gaming laptop was a revelation for me in that regard. I don’t really want intense gaming experiences on my phone anymore. The fact that gaming is throttled by default when my laptop isn’t plugged in says a ton about the capabilities of mobile devices. Sure, they may be incredibly powerful, but at the cost of absolute garbage battery life (and insane heat) when gaming.
This is all positive and great news, however I think it's too late. My Steam Deck already allows me to play No Man's Sky from anywhere and costs less than an M1 based iPad. There will be companies other than Valve releasing affordable hand held PC's, Aya with the Neo Air for example, which will be far more attractive to games who want this type of game. I used to spend far more time playing games on my iPad than PS4 etc as it suites my life style better. However since the Steam Deck arrived I've haven't touched the iPad for gaming.
Just got news it’s confirmed that metal 3 requires an A13 processor and up idk if this means much for no man’s sky but I agree this is definitely what fudge was talking about two years ago with that rumor
Here is the Metal 3 supporting graph. ^ Not sure what the developers will do. They confirmed Mac and iPad only so far on their discord page but gave no specifics on what iPad models yet. Will have to see. If anything, I’m sure they’ll do something similar to Divinity 2 requirements (iPad only). But again we will just have to see when their release comes closer.
I'm pretty sure that No Man's Sky uses Metal 3 tech, so will only be available on the iPadOS and macOS devices shown.
I’ll definitely be picking this up simply for the encouragement for this sort of thing happening but…. I have it on the box and must of started off half a dozen times. The UI drives me up the wall! It’s so unintuitive. Veterans of the game; do you end up getting your head around it? Am I just a touch too simple to grasp the interface? I really want to love it.
Odd enough Feral is clearly saying on twitter that Grid Legends mentioned in this article is only being ported to mac, not ios.
In the article it states Grid and Resident Evil are coming to Mac, and then separately it says No Man's Sky is coming to Mac and iPad. I don't think it was ever indicated that those first two games were also coming to iPad.
They are, but that's not really related to whether a game is coming to iPad or not. Just because Mac and iPad hardware might be similar enough to run a game on both, that's only a small part of porting a game to something like the iPad with an entirely touchscreen interface.
They have, sort of, On their discord announcement page. One of the admins posted it. They basically posted apples keynote and said the Mac and iPad version is coming later this year. Exact release dates will be announced closer to release.
Just saw the announcement via discord so they did confirm it just joined the nms discord so thank you for pointing that out
