That is disheartening. Sounds like they're moving in the wrong direction. I know manufacturers are always trying to find ways to cut costs but in the technology market, it seems things usually just get smaller, faster, and cheaper. Push the envelope, charge premium for new technology, discount older tech, but keep moving forward. Without even having all the knowledge or facts, I don't like to hear technology standards being lowered either.
Well, Apple has sort of always been the wrong company to buy from if you're looking for cutting edge hardware. The iMac line is practically sold as an appliance, and if you've spent any time in an Apple Store it becomes blatantly obvious that the people who are buying them don't know and don't care about things like the advantages/disadvantages of 16:9 vs 16:10.
That makes sense. It almost seems Apple does so well with the aesthetics that people (I'll lump myself in with this boat) assume that the stuff underneath is top notch/high quality as well. The only Apple product I own is my iPhone and I've always thought it's pretty cutting-edge. I think I probably unconsciously extended the sentiment to Apple in general.
I don't mind 1080p or even less (don't watch flicks on my computer that's for the big screen) ...think my current 20" iMac is 1680 x 1050 and my 19" LCD is 1440 x 900. I prefer dual monitor setup anyday to a 30" single screen. I don't see the point in bigger monitors for average joe unless you have serious issues knowing how to use expose or what not. Then again I'll just make a prediction now in the new Wall Street 2 movie we'll see Grecko having like ten 30" monitors monitoring stocks or something absurd like that. Also in that movie Family Man, Nicolas Cage has has quite the setup at beginning of movie.
