I'm not arguing about the game being released as premium. That can be forgiven. It's that it's not, from what I can tell "a large scale game". It's F2P while also taking all the elements that GOF players liked about its predecessors. It's a slimed down version. You can do one or the other. F2P or slim the game down, so as to not put out a product that will make no profit. Doing both is a company wide suicide mission. That's where the hostility and harshness are coming from.

I am also looking forward to Everspace on PC though.I was about to buy the beta package because I hear the beta is coming soon and that game is quite good, from the same guys who brought us GOF1 and 2.I know that the game will be the real GOF3!

If you like space games and own an Xbox, PC or Mac then you should also try Elite Dangerous. Now that's a space game! Truly explorable open world...

May I ask if you have played the game already and if so, how much time you have spend with it? Personally, I don't find it "barely playable" at all... even at this early stage. But maybe that's just me.

I do get the vague impression that some of y'all aim your anger at devs like this because you need to put a face to the freemium problem, even though most devs are as much victims, if not more, as the players. Why would Fishlabs WANT to put in timers if they weren't driven to this measure by a degenerating industry? Just as the IOS games industry is no longer an open world, neither are the games. It's hard to monetize a mission/story-driven game like this without in some way limiting the play. Otherwise you could just hurtle through it in a matter of hours, like most single-player campaigns. In fact, we're probably going to be (and I suppose already are) seeing fewer and fewer big-deal single player story-driven games on IOS as the dust settles, even Freemium ones. They just don't work as well in the freemium model. After playing Undertale on my shitty PC all day, I'm thinking we're going to have to be increasingly reliant on ports of indie PC games like Necrodancer for that fix (they're small enough to be grateful for a few extra coins from the port). Anyway, just saying hate the game not the players (and by game I mean the freemium cul de sac we're stuck in, and by players I mean teams like Fishlabs). It is weird me saying this as I do think we live in a world where consumers are effectively strong-armed by tax dodging sharks into being baying, capitulating jellied slaves, surrendering huge chunks of our lives for The Product 2300 version 84.3 Now W/ Shinier Shine Than The Last Model. BUT Fishlabs aren't Apple, they're way down there in the dirt with us, so treat them like the people with feelings that they are. You can still relive the glory daze of Galaxy on Fire 2 if you want (for free!), and hearken back to a more hopeful and promising time.

Sorry to hear you and many others see it like this. Personally, I beg to differ. Sure, GOF3 does currently not have all the features that GOF2 has. And some of them it might never get. But that doesn't make it a smaller or less ambitious game. In fact, it already surpasses GOF2 in many areas.

And knowing what our devs and designers still have planned for the next weeks and months, I honestly have no worries about GOF3 finding its audience. And I'm not speaking of casual players as some people here (provokingly?) suggested... but I think it makes not much sense playing guessing games here. Let's wait how all this turns out and then let the numbers decide who's right.

All I can say to the old GOF players, who are disappointed at the moment, is this: Download the game, approach it open mindedly and play it for more than 10 minutes (yes, you can do so without any waiting times). You'll find that -- despite being different than you thought -- it is actually good fun. And there is a lot more GOF in it than you might have thought.

It's good for 10minutes. Where as GOF2 it was good fun for hours and hours a single session, that's what's wrong here

So, we have pages and pages of whining and moaning on here from a handful of forum members who have just recently joined, presumably to rubbish this game specifically. You folks seriously need to get a life.

Let me start by saying I've played GOF, GOF2, bought all the DLC. Bought it on Steam for that fix as well. These were not "sale" purchases either. These were full price support for the dev.

I then went on to closed Beta for Alliances. That was a terrible (in my opinion) game. So bad, that I just gave up on it.

So then Manticore Rising came out. Almost bought an iTV to play it. ALmost. I consoled myself with GOF3 was almost here. Couple other sims came out but no GOF3 was almost here. I saw the news about the soft launch and damned near squeeled, until I read all this.

When I get to play games they tend to be in chunks. I'm able to play for a handful of hours at a time. I don't have time to play throughout the day and with responsibilities it makes it difficult. Since this has come out, I presume people have played it.

My question: Can I play this whenever I want for a few hours at a time or is that going to be something causing me to purchase items in order to play? Second question, if I don't want to shoot today but would rather explore, will this game allow me to do that?

I'm fairly sure that both of these answers are no. If so, that's strike two. I get that dev's have 90 people working on it. But if you've departed that much into what amounts to an "arcade" shooter that has cheesy F2P functions. Whelp...

I hope I'm wrong though. I'm less of a wait and see type than I am a "you burn me and I write off not only this game but future games". It's also in soft launch which means there is time enough to fix things, but if your game is developed around both of these flawed ideas then it's not something easily patch-able.

Frankly, with No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, and ED all out I was really excited about this game's possibilities (especially how much I played GoF2).

I really like how the developers keep on claiming that even after all of these changes to the new game have happened,it is still GOF in heart and spirit and it will bring us the same fun.I am the consumer and I know what I liked about the previous GOF games, you can't come here and try to tell me I am going to have the same amount of fun after I have seen how bad the games is.What is the point in trying to defend the "improvements" in the game if for 19 pages people keep telling you they don't like them.I also like the fact that they seriously believe this game will find it's audience, which audience is that I wonder. This will be one of those games we all pick up just to see the shine graphics and forget about a day later and never install again.

There is no more exploration in this game. It has been completely removed. In fact there's no world in the game, just instances to do some arcade shooting.

Candy Crush and FarmVille players are the new audience.
Actual GoF players who funded and supported the company have been completely neglected.

QUESTION#1 = impossible to enjoy for a few hours, maybe if you milk jt and force trough the pain you can get 30minutes out of it. It's like FarmVille enjoy it for 10minjtes and leave it for a few hours to let the timers go down. Than rinse and repeat

QUESTION#1.5 = Of course it's freemium, "you don't have to purchase IAP" but they force feed it to you like an animal shelter commercial. It gets to the point where everything you do redirects to purchase one of its 3 (yes that's right, 3 currencies) currencies to help you out.

QUESTION#2 = You don't get to explore, this game isn't open world. You have a single Hub and select missions to choose from and you teleport to the area of the mission. No free roam

Skip the game and redownload and enjoy GOF2's game + DLC
