So a co-worker suggested I should post here.. as we've had good response and interesting feedback to our previous game REKT! for iOS. Not really familiar with the Touch Arcade platform yet but excited to share what we're working on. Rescue Wings is currently in Soft Launch, just in the Netherlands. World Launch is planned in a few weeks, so sit tight! Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #3 Jor, May 24, 2019 Btw.. on my twitter I'm sharing byte sized dev stories every other day along with a short vid, which I try to make interesting for all levels of experience in game development. Here's an example: It's always nice to tweak colors in Unity instead of having to do it in Photoshop. For Rescue Wings we export all world textures in red/green/blue colors so we can overwrite them in the engine. This is how we can easily tweak and reuse textures for a different theme. Is anyone interested in me sharing these stories on this thread as well? I'll keep posting the dev stories daily until we catch up with the every-other-day twitter dev story feed. To test out #rescuewings in the early days of dev we made all level chunks using #3dsmax. We soon figured out the communication bottleneck between artists and level designers, so we build the entire level editor in #unity3d instead using custom editors and mesh generation. THE NETHERLANDS #6 ROGER-NL, May 26, 2019 Hey a Dutch man here, ah well more a kid of 48 years old ha ha, just played the game, first it looks great, that’s alway’s a plus. Controls work well, need to get used to them though, specialy the accelaration button to keep flying, sometimes I hang still in the air, but some practice will do. Good luck with your launch in a couple of weeks. Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #7 Jor, May 26, 2019 Heya Roger, that's nice to hear! Yes we try to ease the player into using the acceleration button at first.. the moment we ask the player to do a time trial is pushed back quite a lot in the game so we can assume they're more comfortable with the controls at that point! THE NETHERLANDS #8 ROGER-NL, May 26, 2019 Just got my first gold medal with the chopper, as you can see in the screenshot, getting used to the controls very fast though. It’s a big game from what I see now lots of stuff to do. Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #9 Jor, May 26, 2019 That's awesome! Is this the build that has "Competitive" game mode in it already? Not sure anymore what the current live build is. Competitive should be quite empty now as we have not run any campaign for it yet. ROGER-NL Well-Known Member May 21, 2012 4,030 340 83 Male Gamer. THE NETHERLANDS #10 ROGER-NL, May 26, 2019 Yeah competitive mode is here, unlocks after 3 gold medals. Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #16 Jor, May 27, 2019 Hey Extreme, thanks for posting here! We actually already implemented cloud save including cross platform support (Android/iOS). We had to disable it temporarily last week as the service that we're using (GameSparks) is currently facing some technical difficulties that resulted in Competitive not working anymore after trying and failing to sync. We started a thread with GameSparks and they're looking into it. We'll get it back up as soon as possible! Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #17 Jor, May 27, 2019 Here's a short post about the level editor: The level editor of #rescuewings has multiple layers. We create "chunks" using custom tools in #unity3d. Those chunks are connected to each other much like a roller coaster game. This allows us to re-use chunks and create levels within minutes! extreme472000 Well-Known Member May 25, 2012 480 3 18 USA #18 extreme472000, May 28, 2019 Awesome news! Just downloaded last night and been playing. Game has came quite a ways since beta, what was it previously called, fire flush? Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #19 Jor, May 28, 2019 Wow, that's correct! We've shared an earlier build here when it was still called Fire Flush. Since then we got PlayStack Londen as Publisher and started Soft Launches in the Netherlands. We never stopped developing, tweaking and adding new things! Jor Well-Known Member Aug 21, 2018 63 11 8 Male #20 Jor, May 28, 2019 This is how we re-use assets across different themes: To reduce the big amount of materials across the themes of #rescuewings we created something we call Dynamic Materials. They act like normal materials but can switch between presets, allowing us to add content without having to manage more and more assets.
