What are some other devices that need a charger and don't come with one in the box? I guess I just haven't run into this way of the industry yet? Hopefully Nintendo doesn't start a trend with this, though.
Needing extra cables that don't come in the box is pretty normal. How many consoles have only shipped with the normal yellow/white/red RCA cables? It'd probably be easier to list the ones that included more than that.
Fair enough, but you can play the console or device with only those cables. Without power you can't do anything.
I'm really surprised you don't see the problem with a console lacking a power cable. It's simply a way for them to market the console under $200. $10 won't break the bank but it surely looks quite silly! Give it a few months and they'll probably include the power cable.
Not quite. Nintendo has been doing it in other regions of the world for 2 years now. The "old" 3DS XL doesn't come with a charger in Japan or in Europe. Neither New 3DS (standard and XL) comes with one there either. Nintendo has stated multiple times its to cut costs. "Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter," a Nintendo representative told Polygon. A little late for that, buddy. It makes more sense to shave $10 off the asking price as many don't need another cord. Remember, this cord has been in use since the DSi
Yeah that's exactly what I said there buddy. They don't wanna sell it for over their $199 price point. It doesn't make it any less ridiculous. I'm pretty tired of talking about it, so I assure you I won't continue, it's just the internet continues to amaze me.
IMO the argument shouldn't be how stupid it is for Nintendo to not ship a charger as much as it should be how stupid it is for them to still be using a proprietary plug in 2015. No one would care if it had no charger if you just charged it via USB like every other (non-Apple) piece of portable electronics in the last decade.
Some peoples pre-orders of the MM LE are getting canceled by Best Buy, apparently, but my son's order looks like it's going through. Status is now "Preparing Order". Anyone get theirs canceled?
I'm still waiting for them to update my order of the MM N3DS. Best Buy has dropped the ball lately it seems.
It's hard to blame retailers anymore when this is just consistently the case with everything Nintendo does. It's not like Best Buy is the only one canceling preorders and otherwise ####ing up other people's orders. I wish I could figure out why Nintendo historically ships so little when the demand is obviously there. All it does is create a ridiculous secondary market for scalpers selling their stuff for double, which Nintendo sees $0 of.
Yeah, we were at Gamestop last night and the guy there was saying the same thing essentially. Nintendo never ships enough to meet demand. Same thing happened with the Gamecube adapters.
Checked status on MM 3DS from BB. Shipped, supposed to get it tomorrow. I will see, but i may be one of the lucky few.
Picking up my red N3DS tomorrow. I've had opportunities and still do to get the MM one but I really don't see the appeal. I've been a Zelda fan my whole life, it's actually my favorite series, but to be honest it really bothers me the inside isn't gold to match the exterior and in general I just don't like the design of it. Glad red was a choice. I feel like a lot of people are just buying the MM version of it because of its supposed rarity. I have a feeling they'll be doing a few more runs of it before discontinuing it. Well, N3DS, Majora's Mask, and Monster Hunter tomorrow, we're all in for a pretty fun day!
Craigslist in my area has a bunch of the new Zelda themed version for only $500. I agree with what was said earlier, it is really silly of Nintendo to not release more of these.
