Here was something I found interesting, in regard to the 3DS. I think it's relevant as we get into discussions about the little 3D dual screen that could: "Per pixel effects are the baseline. Sadley poly output is quickly snubbed in favor of this, as incredibly obvious by the xbox/ps2/gcn generation. The cube smoked the ever living ****e out of the box in actual poly performance, Games like the rouge leader series, metroid prime, and re4 were impossible on the box for this reason.... But the star graphics games of that generation will always be the doom III's and chronicles of riddick, with its two guys/ monsters and 90 degree angle walls for a background all covered in normal maps and unified lighting. (This is a generalizaion for any uber geeks without any social skills out there.) And despite knowing this, I also must admit that I side with the two guys and a wall covered in normal maps and unified lighting for last gens wow factor. To those people erroneously trying to spout off that pixel shading isnt considered 'power' they are so very very incredibly obviously wrong. It is a vulgar display power. For those with questions about the RAM, the Wii's workhorse ram was the 25 Megabytes of 1t s-ram. This single transistor ram was fast as greased lighting, and its proximity to the parts that needed turned it into practically another L1 cache to anybody with skill enough in memory management to use it. Its speed made up for the small capacity. There is more to ram than simply capacity, the clock speed of the ram is a huge factor, just as big as capacity. Tje 3ds's Fcram is an entirely new type of RAM, not a modification of traditional RAM like everything from dram to gddr, to sram.... That even manages to make the wii's 1T s-ram look sluggish in speed. And it its more than 6 times the capacity of the wii's 1t sram. Even without knowing exactly WHAT the heck the cpu is, or what the heck kind of customizations (And limitations, using the DS as a basis) Nintendo put on the pica200 this gives us a very obvious look into the simply brutal amount of muscle the 3ds has over systems like the gamecube/ps2/xbox, and in the large majority of cases, the wii. You dont pay for ram your processors arent fast enough to use, ANd the 3ds is NOT using RAM for intensive outside gaming purposes like multimedia devices ie smart phones. Its bare minimum for non gaming related. In fact games that have been suspended actually need to be closed before opening most of the 3ds's built in function like camera mode (However, for example, the notes function I think I remember being an exception.) So for the topic, game cube games are a joke for the 3ds. Really, the fact that this is even being asked just shows how horribly bad the wii has conditioned a surprisingly large portion of gamers. I would bring up the ds as having something to do with that... But really... It doesnt, no one really seems to care nor dwell all that much on the ds's graphical limitations.... But the wii.... That things pandoras box, particularly to gamers who havent been around for prior 'shifts' like the one the wii caused, like from commadore 64/Amiga to NES, Oh man was that a ride, 'hardcore' gamers HATED the nes. A lot of them just plain well, stopped gaming. But few remember and even less care because the children, the nes generation took over and shaped gaming to its current 'hardcore' state." http://3dsforums.com/nintendo-3ds-3/few-questions-about-3dss-power-graphics-13813/index8.html It's funny to read, and I'd have to agree that regardless of the upcoming Vita, the 3DS is as capable to a be a successor in the modern handheld age. Sure it's not nearly as powerful on paper - it does have glasses less 3D, which I wrote off as a gimmick until I bought one. It really does add an immersion to games that I didnt think it could. If only they could make the sweet spot a little bigger, I'd be thrilled. Dumaz - you should get Mercenaries 3d, it fun.
I was going to get a 3DS because of the price drop but decided against it. I was thinking I would pick up OoT, Pokemon Scramble, or Starfox 64 (I played the N64 version all the time when I was younger). But that was all I was thinking of. On the original DS, I have 19 games and on the PSP I have 12. I don't think purchasing a platform for just 3-4 games is for me.
That's a great way to look at it. I purchased OoT as my first game, and having enjoyed the N64 version, this one feels and look significantly better. It's about what I expected Twilight Princess to be visually, all those years back when the trailer had Nintendo fans crying for a mature Link. The 3D is perfect on the game too. It adds immersion and just seems like a real world, like you're traveling through Hyrule alongside link, vs. the regular 2d. It's strange, I prefer 3d as it's adds so much. I then got Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D and have over 15 hours on it. Sure, you can't delete the save and such but it's Mercenaries mode with online, objectives, nice visuals and great pacing. It actually gets hectic on EX levels, playing online taking down executioners, chainsaw dudes and flaming executioners, while maintaining combos, kill streaks and SS rankings. I like that you can aim, shoot and move all at once. It's less cumbersome to reload while using the touch screen + there's unlockables characters and skills - kind of like Infinity Blade had, which you can level and get strengthened abilities buffed. It's just fun. Plus, it comes with an oh so brief demo of Revelations which reinforced my belief that the 3DS is no visual slouch. RE is my all time favorite series since the PSX days. Beaten and played the snot out of every main entry, including CV. It's surreal to play as Claire and team up with Chris online. I just got Pilot Wings yesterday. I wanted a relaxing experience. I don't have a Wii so Wuhu Island is new to me. So far, I have Star Fox paid off. Next week will be sweet. It looks phenomenal. The visuals look beefed more so than the ones they did for OoT. In Nov. There Super Mario Land (return of flagpoles, airships, Koopa Kids and the Tanooki suit), and Kid Icarus (the gameplay seems distinctive, great visuals and awesome, campy banter between Palutena, Pit and Medusa) and it's helmed by Sakurai (dude in charge of the recent SSB series installations). In December, there's Mario Kart7. Next year, Kingdom Hearts 3D (my first ever KH game), Metal Gear Snake Eater 3D, Resident Evil Revelations 3D, Rayman Origins 3D, Beyond Labyrinth (Ico esque or team Ico involved game)...and Fatal Frame was just announced (AR notebook, ability to also use the camera and snap pics of friends with spooky ghouls in them and a campaign to boot)... I'd say adding in Sonic Generations, Nano Assault, Ace Combat, Tekken, Need For Speed and whatever else comes - rumored even SF X Tekken is coming- things will look up for the 3DS. Those who paid full price, be happy we price drop peeps are entering the fray. It's driving up the user base (over took PSP in August hardware wise in JPN) and now 3rd parties will take note. The original DS had a slow start too. People doomed the DS to the superior tech of the PSP and the DS still won. After the holiday let's see what happens for the 3DS...Vita is missing the holiday, so it might have a slow start too, like the 3DS did.
Some great quality Kid Icarus Uprising gameplay videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDyQw-HcqEU http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D3tEb0KlGE3k&sa=X&rct=j&tbm=vid&ei=vh9hTu68NO_XiAKGkem1Dg&ved=0CEEQ8AEoAjAA&usg=AFQjCNEnKF4zoKKtQZkh8AJyLJvQ68h-Pw
Off topic, but concerning the Vita. Load times. Watch the video posted here, it's not pretty and it's funny And it's 100% real. http://endlessparadigm.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=28174 Kinda makes me go "meh". Last post in here for a it, sorry...
When I buy my 3ds what games should I get, I'm a Mario/Zelda type gamer. Retail and EShop games included
Star Fox is only a hour and a half. Two hours, max. It's like paying $40 for a iOS Gameloft game, without any multiplayer. I'm going with Driver Renegade, despite the average to slightly above average reviews. Driver has two modes and while the story mode is 2-3 hours, somewhat similiar to Starfox, the career mode is upwards of 4 times the length of the story mode. Yeah, I know Star Fox will be more polished, but that's a really short game and ordinarily I'm not much of a replay guy. I never bought Pilot Wings for basically the same reason. Then again, why am I complaining? I bought Resident Evil Mercinaries 3D and never played it. I probably bought it 6 weeks ago. I bought Dynasty Warriors on launch day and never played that either. I played Lego Star Wars 3D for all of five minutes (admittedly, that's all it took to realize how bad of a game it likely is). Played Zelda for a few hours. Played Asphalt 3D for a hour, maybe (and wished I could get a full refund. . . . on my hour.) If I bought Star Fox, it's possible I still wouldn't finish it. Could have something to do with owning 100s of iOS games, 50-ish 360 games, over 30 PSP games and more PC games then I would ever care to count. I got so many games that I had a modded NDS with a hundred games on it, and the ability to add anything else I wanted, and I gave it away, for free. Then Nintendo went and gave me 10 free games. Yeah, I needed that, like I need a hole in my head. Did I mention that I own several hundred Ps2 games?
I'm not sure why you say anything in that link countered the claim that the loading times are insane... but it could just be a beta issue. I guess people will find out, though not myself - $250 is too rich for my blood for a gaming handheld. Same with the 3DS when it was that price. Now we're finally going to get one this xmas. It's a more reasonable price now, though even $170 is more then I really would like pay. Certainly it means there won't be two 3DSs in the house.
defenitely a cheaper price would make me get one pronto, Nintendo needs to stick to their franchise titles. the other games on wii are cruddy.More Mario Kart isall Im sayin Luigis mansion looks saweet!@!
The 3DS is getting an ugly-as-hell second circle pad attachment along with a port of Monster Hunter Tri. http://ds.ign.com/articles/119/1192682p1.html Dear God Nintendo, where did you go wrong? At least now I can look forward to the second interation of the 3DS with a built in second circle pad... After already spending $250 on the original.
What the hell, I am seriously considering selling this thing and getting the vita, my only hope is that this is exclusively for monster hunter, but even then, just.....no.
Nintendo cannot produce enough first-title games to keep this system a float. There is a lot more competition within the mobile/handheld market then anything that Nintendo has ever seen in the past. Perhaps they could keep their previous handhelds alive by virtue of first-party titles alone in the past, but that model isn't going to work anymore. This attachment is likely an attempt to garner more third-party appeal. I believe that lack of third-party support is definitely damaging the bottom line here. Whether this is a viable solution or not, we'll just have to see. Generally these sort of sold seperately expansions never catch on, on any platform, all the way back to the days of the Sega CD and the graphical expansion deal that they devised for the N64. The rumble pack for the NDS, some sort of tilt device for the NDS, That solar attachment deal for the NDS, The guitar hero attachment for the NDS, the camera expansion for the PSP, etc, etc, etc. Chances are, if they do not give this away for free, it is fail. They could bundle it with a game, like, say Monster Hunter 3D, but if they charge anything for it, anything at all, it will not catch on. Bundle it with a game, but still sell the game its bundled with for 39.99. I really don't think there can be any other way.
If this thing is a peripheral specifically for use with Monster Hunter? Fine. Whatever. I don't care. If it's an officially backed add-on, ushering in a redesign less than a year after launch? I'm done with Nintendo. I'll probably still get Mario this year, but after that I'd seriously consider selling my "first gen" 3DS.
If that thing is real, I'm sure it's just for MH3. I'm sure other games could use it if they wanted to, but it's pretty doubtful that it's a sign of a redesign. I can't imagine that MH3 will sell that well on the 3DS if it requires that thing, though.
Then clearly you have no idea how much of an unstoppable, near-elemental force Monster Hunter is in Japan.
Perhaps I don't, but I can't imagine that people are going to buy that ridiculous peripheral, as opposed to buying a Vita. And yeah, I think the Vita is overpriced, but if they'd buy that ludicrous add-on, I can't imagine that they wouldn't buy a Vita just to play MH. I think I'm ready for Nintendo to take their shareholders advice, and switch to a game development role. I'd love to see Nintendo developing games for Kinect, for iOS, etc. I think that would be awesome.
