The graphics on the 3DS are supposed to look better with the 3D settings off. The 3D being off allows it to run with a higher FPS and anti-aliasing. The games for the 3DS will look better farther into it's lifespan, but as of now I'd say they're better than most games you'd find on an iPhone.
Link's Awakening is so freaking hardcore lol. No wonder I never got close to beating it back then on the Gameboy Color. Trying to play through the game right now instead of playing Ocarina of Time 3D or touching on any of Pokemon Black version's end-game content. Taking freaking forever..haven't even spent an hour of Ocarina of Time yet consequently. Lol xP, not to mention I'm still spending $15 or more weekly on iOS games. Just got an iPad 2 as well and binged on buying iPad games.. Portables > Consoles, any day of the week for me :].
Well I just finished Ocarina of Time story mode yesterday. According to the activity log, I took 65 hours to complete it haha. I was trying to hunt down those gold skulltulas without relying on a walkthrough or something. I never completed it full before. I played it on an emulator once but stopped because I found controlling it difficult with a keyboard. I just started the master quest portion of it and boy is it harder. I positively got scared in the Deku Tree when you're trying to get to the other side by jumping off the brittle rock and then having the big skullula jump on my face. I'm still debating if I should buy Link's Awakening or not though. It looks kinda old and the only Zelda games I have played are OoT and Minish Cap. I love them both but still...I have to save up money for Lion too...
Of course it's old! It's what started the whole series. Honestly, there's been no changes whatsoever from the Gameboy version of the game except that now the screen actually has a backlight xD. I definitely prefer Ocarina of Time over it though. I've never been one to like classics/retro games. I'm thinking about trying out some of the other Zelda games for the DS after playing through LA and OoT. I got a 3DS honestly just to play Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario along with other games that the iOS doesn't/can't support and are specific to only Nintendo. By the way, any idea on how long it'd take just to beat OoT without trying to get everything?
I would say ~20 or some hours. Even without doing any sidequests or beating the game 100% it is pretty long.
Even though I picked up Ocarina of Time, I find myself playing Golden Sun Dark Dawn more often. The story is excellent, and you if you haven't played the first two, GO GET THEM!
Has anyone mentioned yet that once they remake Majora's Mask in 3D, the image of the moon in 3D will forever haunt our nightmares?
SSFIV vs. DoAD? I already have SFIV and Volt on the iOS if that means anything. I have LEGO PoC and LoZ: OoT for the 3DS so far. Are there any other good games for the 3DS that I should get? Not really in the mood for getting anymore regular DS games.
What haunts me about that game more is STARTING OVER EVERY 3 DAYS!!!!!!! ARGGGGG!!!!! ahahahah in all seriousness it was a great but very difficult game.
I think Splinter Cell 3D is good. But you cannot be a fanboy, it seems, or you will end up judging the game too harshly against it's console counterparts and end up being disappointed. Take it for what it's worth. It's a pretty damn good HANDHELD game. It's a remake though. I've never really gotten into Splinter Cell in the past. I've only really dabbled. So the fact that it's a remake doesn't bother me, because I haven't played that much of the original version. Zelda, Lego Pirates, and Splinter Cell are the best 3 so far. I recently bought Resident Evil, but have not played it, so I cannot judge. I hate fighting games, so I abstain from voting on Street Fighter.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I like fighting games, and the game they were displaying turned out to be Dead or Alive Dimensions. Couldn't resist after playing it in the store for a few rounds. Still got a ways to go on a OoT anyways so I should be good for now. But yeah, fighters play really well on the 3DS from what I can tell so far.
Nintendo is dropping the price from $250 US to $170 effective August 12th, ouch. Along with nearly a dozen canceled games this is an extremely rocky start for a device from the company that's traditionally held the portable gaming market in it's iron grip. I guess they realized they they weren't able to compete with the PS Vita at the same price point. The new price point is going to be far more appealing to new customers but I feel sorry for anyone that's purchased one already, 20 free e-shop games or not that's got to feel like a major betrayal. http://kotaku.com/5825495/nintendo-3ds-gets-sudden-massive-price-drop/
What what? List of canceled 3DS games http://kotaku.com/5822519/whats-with-all-the-cancelled-3ds-games 3DS has only sold 710,000 units worldwide in 3 months http://kotaku.com/5825489/nintendos-hardware-sales-arent-looking-so-hot See the link in above post about the price drop. The system is not doing so hot, it's not exactly a virtual boy level failure but it's certainly not doing as well as expected. If any of this comes off as incoherent I'm sorry but I'm a bit drunk ATM. If both the 3DS and the Vita were priced at $250 there would be no question about which is the better deal. Nearly all of Nintendo's major 3DS releases so far have been ports, the only exceptions to this on the horizon are Mario and Mario Kart.
