The toys R Us I went to had a lot of 3DS units for sale. I had already ordered through Amazon and didn't feel compelled to change that fact, even though I knew I wouldn't receive the system through Amazon for several more days. It's odd to launch on a Sunday. If you ordered online in the U.S., they are going to ship it out on a Sunday. Part of it is the increase volume of online activity, I would wager. As the years go by, more and more people turn to online alternatives to avoid a potential launch day headache. Part of it is the price, combined with what the brand of Nintendo is synonymous with. People perceive Nintendo to be a company that panders to the casual gamer. 250 for a dedicated handheld gaming system may be too pricy for casual gamers to bite. Hardcore gamers may hesitate, due to Nintendo's track record of soft gaming. Part of it is the sad launch lineup, featuring no system-selling must have game, and none of Nintendo's main IP franchises. No Mario, or Zelda, or Metroid, etc.
If you don't mind the overall quality of the image to be "stretched out" for the DS games, you should upgrade to the 3DS asap.
I've never been so disappointed in all my life when I saw this at a trade show. Now I've seen the price they're trying to gouge us for in the UK I think I'll go for the PSP2 instead. We have devkits for that and it's a sweet little machine. I think the next couple of years belong to Sony on the handhelds front. Well, Sony and Apple!
You and me know that's not true But whatever, it seems that Nintendo released 2 million 3DS's for NA/Europe. Analysts expect that it will outsell by a large margin the original week of the DS and the Wii. In other words, seems like the handheld is selling decently. heh
Yeah I saw 3 left at Target on the release day. You'd think a handheld that lets you see in 3D without glasses would sell out fast, especially a Nintendo product.
if you go on IGN's site it tells you how to set the 3ds so it plays ds games without being stretched out - itll be on a smaller size to the screen but better image quality I love my DS! got mine and my gf went out next day and got herself one lol - only got Street Fighter and Star Wars - but plan on getting Ghost Recon next whilst waiting for the rest of the lineup to be released in the upcoming months - Res Evil x 2 and Zelda etc i heard Nintendo purposely held back on their own games to let 3rd party developers have the limelight - Nintendo knew the system would sell well without all the big name games
"Seeing" things sitting at shelves at stores mean squat. I saw hundreds of Kinects few days after release date at Best Buy, and then Microsoft comes out and announces that they have sold 8 million of those things.
I just got mine! I have to say like others, I'm impressed by the looks. And it feels very solid to me. Very nice. *goes off to create a mii*
Don't cry kid it's just a system, if its is not as successful as the other nintendo products life goes on for you right? I assume by the way you speak and argue mindlessly that you're 12 so you got your life ahead of you.
Just traded in a xbox360 broken and wii broke. Plus all my old games an got $200 credit. Wound up spending $150 for the black 3ds w/ pilot wings, sfighter, and the soccer game..
Not bad I had about the same outcome I traded in my ds lite(It was s a special made one from china that was a sweet navy blue!) my orginal ds, and about every ds game I had(about 30) except for pokemon heartgold and black, Cod wow(forgot I had it), FFIII, starfox command, zelda spirit tracks and pahntoms hourglass, and mario kart. I ended up paying $90 for the cosmo black 3ds Super street fighter, Nintendogs(It looked pretty cool and utilizes 3d to the max), and Tc: shadow wars
Why does this always have to become some sort of age-bashing? Good grief, every time I even glance at an Internet page there's somebody trying to claim that someone else is too young to have been even remotely matured. Now that I'm done ranting... Look, the launch titles are not exactly something to gawk at. But the things to come are going to be what makes this thing sell. And if there's 3DS systems at your local game store, good for you. Nintendo's still raking in immense amounts of dough, so I seriously doubt they're concerned as to the immediate success of their latest iteration.
